after watching your reviews and several others touting the greatness of Monos. I decided to bite the bullet and purchased their carry on and med check-in. 1 trip and the both were scuffed significantly and the check-in had a huge dent in the corner. Their 100 day trial is for bringing it home and if you don't like it in your home (don't travel with it) - you can return it but it must be in pristine condition. They are going to replace the damaged check-in but that it dented 1st trip makes me wish I opted for one of the other 2 contenders.
I just found your channel and i couldn't be happier. Not gonna lie, I'm nervous about this, but i just bought 2 Monos Hybrid carry ons in black for my husband and my honeymoon. I am worried about it being internally smaller than the classic, but it looks so good! Thank you for your channel, i really can't explain how helpful this was, and how stressed i felt about buying luggage before I stumbled upon your channel.
Aww you will be fine. It’s not that different at all. Use packing cubes and compression, and follow some of my packing tips and you won’t even notice! This is my preferred bag out of over 40 that I own.
Have you bought any more Cadence capsuls? Would love your review of the bigger sizes. However, you seem to have nailed the art of finding solid toiletries lol. I would understand if you didn't feel the need for any more liquid storage containers 😂
Thanks for the comparison! It’s helpful to see them packed and unpacked. But Gurl, when will you show us the packing Cubes review 😂 I feel like your packing cube troll. Monos needs to ship them to you ASAP!
Pulled the trigger and purchased this luggage using your link and discount code 😊. I took a long time to decide because I had my eyes on July luggage. But the slightly smaller size of the Monos luggage was the determining factor to my decision. Hope I get in on time prior to my travel 😅
I pulled the trigger and ordered a Monos carryon! Thanks for the review. Yours really did help me make the decision. I would’ve loved the July Carry-On Essential but Monos’ look and price swayed me this way.
So I go to Greece often and our carry ons did not survive. We had issues with broken zippers, loose handles, tipping over, and having barely enough space on the way back. I can’t decide between Beis or Monos. I was looking into Away bigger carry on but I watched your video about Away. I’d like to max the carry on limit but be strong enough for cobble stones, unpaved roads, boat ferries, and such. My old ones were samsonite from TJ Max.
Beis’s carry on is too big for all airlines (internationally) because it measures over 22”, but any of the regular carry on sizes of monos or July or level 8 would be good :) any “bigger carry on” or “carry on plus” could potentially be too large.
I've traveled to Greece often along with the Amalfi Coast, Canary Islands, Malta etcetera. I simply find that wheels are not compatible with the types of small roads one must maneuver in these areas. This is why I choose convertible backpacks/duffels. But if I were to go with wheels I would choose Monos over Béis any day. Béis is mostly marketing and Monos actually has a lot of quality features.
NOTE: The volume measures the exterior length x width x height, whereas the CAPACITY measures the INTERIOR volume. If you go on the website and compare the CAPACITY of the two bags, rather than the volume, the it says the Hybrid actually has a higher CAPACITY (29L) compared to the Classic (28L) but smaller volume (36L) than the Classic (39.9L). It actually means the Hybrid holds MORE stuff than the Classic, while taking up less room in the overhead compartment. That's why the Hybrid costs more.
I would love to see a side by side comparison of the Monos Hybrid carry-on and the July carry-on, especially the durability and resistance to scratches and scuffs. We are going on a two week European river cruise in December and I plan to only bring a carry-on bag along with my personal item, so comparing the capacity would be great also. Thanks for your great reviews!
I’ve tested the durability on Monos and july (regular Monos though not hybrid- and hybrid is better) and they are both extremely scratch resistant. I’ve checked them both. The Monos compression is a tiny bit better, but the capacity is the same. I probably won’t compare these two specifically unless I end up with some july trunk luggage.
I had said "no Monos" due to their terrible return policy (as much as you don't like Away, they have the best return policy by far). However, this Hybrid Carry On in this color is absolutely gorgeous--it is temping! (As an overpacker, though, I'd probably be better off with someone with a zipper that you can squeeze a little more into.
I’ve reached out to MVST several times and haven’t heard back. I’m not a fan of 100% aluminum cases at the moment, but I will consider some comparisons ❤️
Great content. I loved the side by side comparison and it does help me to hear about your personal preferences (not just aesthetic but functional too). The zipper thing is a thing. I think if you could afford the zipperless, it would be nice. You may have just led me in that direction.
Thank you for making this video! Helped a lot. The hybrid looks smaller. Would have been interesting to see the Opposite - carry on filled and put into hybrid as I’m sure it would not fit. But this was helpful enough that I would get the carry on so thank you! Now need to decide between this and July!
Welcome to the world of carry-on one baggers! Trust me, you'll never miss those precious minutes wasted at the luggage carousel... or, even worse, having your flight cancelled and your luggage go to another time zone. Welcome!!
Hi, Thanks so very much for this comparison! I'm curious what you think about the weight difference. I'm 5' and very petite. I've heard the Hybrid is heavy once packed. What's your experience?
I am 10 inches taller than you, but it’s not that much heavier. Most of my carry on’s, packed fully and the compression is being used, it can be around 20 pounds. However, most cases with aluminum features are over 10 pounds!
Hi there! I am planning on buying the monos carryon in terracotta. I find it looks chic on their website and since all my accessories are black I think it would look great but I am nervous about the color once I see it live. I know that you have seen the pop-up store. Would you remember seeing the terracotta color luggage there? And if so, is it a true terracotta? It is an earthy terracotta or more of an orange in your opinion. I am a bit scared that it will be too orange rather than a chic terracotta. What is your impression of the color? Thanks.
Hey there :) if you want to DM me on IG, I am happy to send you all of the pix of the terracotta from the store in natural light :) @its.the.Kellys (and I think it’s more brick reddish than orange)
So I went all out on this. And gave you credit when they asked how I heard of the brand. The Labor Day weekend promotion code was better than yours though, sorry 😬 I was about to pull the trigger on a Rimowa Hybrid as that’s what the suitcase stores that did not sell Rimowa were telling me to get over Monos. But the value proposition and their customer service when I emailed them is what won me over. I went with the following: Monos Hybrid Carey on (gold) Monos Hybrid Medium Check In (gold) 6 piece compression kit Luggage covers for both pieces. With the fastest expedited shipping (death in family made for last min trip to Europe), I spent just over $1k. Which is still cheaper than the Rimowa Hybrid Carry On by itself. My only concern is I didn’t realize till afterwords that there is no weather sealing where the case closes. HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCE any issues due to this? I do have the covers but just found it odd that it doesn’t have any. Thanks for a great video! *Patiently awaits for the packages to come in…*
Thanks Kelly, I just received my two new classic monos carryon. We like to travel the world and we didn’t want to worry about size or durability “. Thanks for your reviews !❤
I’m stuck between the hybrid carry on vs the hybrid carry on plus! Which one is best both domestically (I fly southwest and delta only) and internationally that can hold a little bit more stuff? Thanks for the amazing reviews Lauren!
Thanks for all of your in-depth reviews! They have been so helpful. I just ordered the Hybrid Carry-On to replace a broken Beis suitcase. An outer zipper fell off and bought at Nordstrom Rack so no warranty :( I'm hoping I don't notice TOO much of a difference in space, but 13 L is a lot! Planning to use this on European flights and didn't want to worry about size (but also never have had to check my Beis suitcase!). Also own a Monos check in large and love it!
Hi Lauren, now that you’ve had both bags for awhile, which would you say is more scratch resistant or are they comparable? How are the aluminum corners on the hybrid? Did they get scratched like your July one? I’m on the fence about which monos to get…love the tan (which is on a great sale right now) but am worried about the light colour getting too many scuffs/scratches that may not buff out (but so tired of always getting black). Perhaps I should just think of the scuffs as proof that I’ve travelled a lot.😁
I have still only traveled with each one once. I still prefer the hybrid. I do feel like the shell is better and doesn’t have a scratch or scuff on it. The regular one doesn’t either, but would be more likely to? My hybrid luggage (out of all 15 pieces I have) is like my favorite child. My prized possession 😂 every inch of it is still perfection
Love this video!! Was deciding between the Hybrid and the regular carry on, but I’m thinking the hybrid mostly because it looks more sophisticated 😂 have you heard of the Horizn Studios luggage? I’ve been thinking of that brand as well but they’re expensive and there isn’t many videos on them
I love seeing luggage that have appropriately sectioned off zippered pockets where the traveler has the option to choose what they want to use that space for instead of companies "forcing" customers to use the product how the "company" wants if that makes any sense. In my opinion luggage is for clothes and tote like bags are for everything else.
Watched your "Best Carry On Luggage" review and this one and just ordered two of the Monos Carry On along with their packing cubes. One for myself and one for my wife. Thanks for the reviews and for the discount code. I used the code for mine and then used the accumulated Wayfarer points to save $30 on my wife's.
the appearance is important, but weight and durability should be the priority when it comes to carry-on. In a lot of airlines outside teh staes, they make you weigh your carry-on.😊
I’m personally a backpack girl because weekenders or duffels can get heavy for a shoulder when fully packed! Usually one of the three beis backpacks featured in this video. (Currently on vacation with the Beis Air cargo backpack) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aaS4CmyQkYM.html
Hi. New viewer here. I stumbled on this review because I'm traveling in the summer and kind of want a new bag that will be durable. And I'm glad that you said that the luggage is more like 21.5" or even 21.25". I'm going with Air Canada and their size restriction is 21.5".
Hello! As long as you get the normal. Carry-on and not a plus, you will be good. I have a video where I put all of the Monos bags in all of the airline sizer bins
I do prefer it, actually. It’s not that much Sizing difference. Very minor. Plus it seems quite literally indestructible. I was forced to check it and there isn’t a scratch on it, it still looks brand new. The wheels are incredibly silent, when I noticed them at the airport. The other carry on I had it for a road trip vs an airport, but I’m sure they are just as great. Also, something about being zipperless and locked seems more secure to me, and better for maintenance for a long term piece of luggage.
I imagine with the compression packing cubes Monos has the small difference in space wouldn't be that big of an issue with the hybrid. Have you tried them before?
We have a 3 piece regular luggage set from Monos. But we’re looking to buy a single large checked bag. Do you recommend going with the hybrid or the regular. Unsure if the $100 is worth just not dealing with a zipper.
I have never used a checked bag, so I can’t give advice based off of personal experience, but the hybrid carry on is smaller than the regular, and is heavier. So when it comes to capacity or weight, it could be a factor for you.
I have the small luggage and the large size one. The location of the button (being at the bottom vs at the top of the handle) is driving me crazy. I wish they’d fix it and change it to like all the other normal luggages
I’m torn…I really want the latches instead of the zipper, but is it worth sacrificing almost 2 POUNDS of extra weight? 🤔 Which one tends to be your go-to for longer trips?
I did a 10 day trip with my Monos carry on..but the trouble is 10 days worth of men clothes and a extra pair of shoes weighs more than they allow for a carry on to be in the cabin of the plane....so my Monos carry on had to be checked in on my flight..lesson is you might as well take the medium check in luggage for more room since you are going to have to check in your luggage on the plane anyways.
Good comparison. I'm still completely torn between the carry on plus & hybrid carry on plus with a 5L difference in volume. Nearly a year on, do you ever use the hybrid and wish you had that little extra space of the regular?
@lee_michae1 I’ve never had a problem with the locks or the zippers, and I always lock them just in case. Even when I was in El Salvador and it got banged up in the back of a bumpy truck, but there still isn’t a scratch on it and it was great!
@@ItsTheKellys Thanks, I appreciate the replies. Leaning towards the hybrid, especially as I've been used to the Samsonite zipper less for longer trips.
What monos carry on would be best for British airways. I want to get the bigger one, but was hoping I could get away with it. Flying from LA to Stockholm.
I've heard of people getting away with a larger one on BA, but that likely won't be the only time you will ever fly internationally, nor the only airline, so I would do the smaller.
I’ve only just started watching your videos (love them!) so you may cover this in another video, but what brand is your packable raincoat? It looks pretty lightweight and doesn’t take up much room.
I really wish I would’ve went with my gut and bought the aluminum Hybrid. I was in such a rush to order and get it in time for my trip, I even paid for the express shipping. But now I regret my decision. Problem is I don’t have time to return the standard and wait for the hybrid to arrive because I’m leaving for my trip in 2 days 😢
Hey Lauren! You mention that these would be great for international airlines with smaller dimensions criteria. Most airlines have a 55x40x20 cm in Euro.Do you think either monos carry on would be ok? i think monos is like 55x40x23 cm which I'm a bit skeptical if they'll make a big deal.
Hi Jeremy. I really do think it will be ok. I’ve taken a lot of mine overseas and Monos is the same size, or smaller. For example, I took my level 8 textured carry on (which is (37 x 23.5 x 55) and it fit in every sizer I could find over there.
Great video Lauren. So I'm completely sold on the Hybrid as you don't have to worry about punctured zippers for security reasons. I just need your advice on the regular or "plus" size. I always carry-on and do mainly domestic flights but will be traveling at least twice a year internationally. I pack a duffle for the way back for dirty clothes so I can bring stuff back. You said that the Hybrid is a bit smaller than the regular carry-on. Is that the case with the Hybrid Plus compared to the Carry-on Plus? Do you think that the Hybrid Plus is too big for both domestic and international travel? Thanks so much!
@Craigima I have tested the punctured zippers on all of my bags this week and Monos was still good! But I do love the trunk style so much. The hybrid is smaller, but I would honestly never take a plus size monos overseas. The difference to me and the two sizes is very minor, any pro Packer will be just fine, especially with the compression
@@ItsTheKellys black!! So tempted to but the maple. Haha I wanted to ask: I end up having to check my beis in a lot and it’s annoying if I’m not trying to wait at the carousel. For that reason: would you still recommend the monos hybrid carry-on (not the pro) because of this issue? Thanks and I look forward to your response.
The hybrid carry on was a dream to travel with. It’s honestly my #1 bag at this point. Even when I was forced to check it (not because of size, but because of no overhead space) there wasn’t a scratch on it!
@@ItsTheKellys Yes! 🙂I use the 3.3 lb Litewing carry-on by American Tourister. Simple piece. 21.5x15.5x8.25 inches. ❤️Just discovered you 🥳 and Adventures with Sarah -- REALLY does the weight thing! (My Goal: find the lightest wheeled underseater (does not exist yet i don’t think- all 5lbs plus-)
I barely fly on airlines that weigh carry on’s so I don’t pay too much attention to weight until I need to. (Like my bora bora trip this summer with a 5 kg limit)
I’ve reviewed the hybrid before. I actually love it. It’s polycarbonate shell is still as indestructible as possible, yet has a metallic shine. I actually prefer the hybrid look to my full aluminum suitcase. (Which got totally dented in one trip)
@@ItsTheKellys Thank you for the quick response. I love the look of the aluminum Rimowa but am struggling to justify the expense over Monos Hybrid. I'd guess I'll order Monos and return it if it doesn't work.
I can’t justify the rimowa either. Let me know how you like the hybrid. I’ve carried it on and checked it now and it’s been amazing. Use my code “itsthekellys5” for a discount if you want :)
I’ve heard of them. I’ve also reached out! No answer yet to review anything :) I’m interested in one of their carry on pieces, but not the one weird one 😂
@@Peggy-Kay that’s the one I’m interested in. The weird one is the one that is the size of a packing cube that turns into a big wheeled bag. I’m only uninterested in that one because it seems very awkward to roll, although great to store.
Thank you for the great reviews. Have you ever personally measured the large checked monos bag? I was wondering if it would work internationally? I noticed that it has to be a combined measurement of 62” and that’s exactly what the spec measurements are listed as on their website. If they’re measurements are off at all, Someone might get charged extra when they go over the pond.
Hi Jennifer. I have seen them in person when I went to the Toronto store, but didn’t actually measure them. (If you want to see them compared to the other sizes, check it out!) my monos suitcase actually measures a tad smaller than online
Because I am a Leo and therefore rather sure of my opinions(*) I take it as a personal win that you now prefer latches over zippers (after only one trip)!! _( I don't honestly believe in astrology but Leos are rather set in our opinions!)_ But what do you mean "no one cares about litres"!?! There are a few product lines that never list capacity in liters and I will actually send them a hot note that they missed out on a sale because of this. It is simply an easy way to know if you're carrying on a 20 L personal or a 40 L MLC (maximum legal carry-on). I'm glad Monos worked out for you on this last trip but obviously you didn't take it to the smaller Islands because you were limited in size. This is the conundrum of me liking Monos but not wanting to go back to trolley wheels. If I were to, and trust me that exact color in the hybrid with your discount code, has been in my shopping bag since before the holidays! Ironically I was on the subway today in Seattle on the same line as SeaTac and I saw scratched Away bags and duffels and all sorts of carry-on ... someday, somehow I hope that no one checks luggage and airports will not be such a nightmare. Until then I hope you change just a few minds!! Great comparison on these two Monos bags! 🌏🌎🌍
No, I don’t have check in size luggage, as this is a carry on channel. But I was forced to check my monos hybrid once and it is still in great condition
@@ItsTheKellys :) Yes, that does make sense. I wonder if any other travel RU-vidr will get around to doing luggage cover reviews (esp Monos) There are not any to be found on RU-vid which is odd because RU-vid has so much of everything else.
@nancyisshopping7950 I’m not sure. I like to just test the luggage instead to show which ones dent and scratch, and which ones don’t. I’m sure the covers are just normal generic ones that you could get from anywhere. I just think if you are carrying on, it’s not necessary, and that would be like carrying a nice purse in a dust bag.
Hi Kelly,. ITSTHEKELLYS5, now over? I am trying to use it, and it says not valid? Trying to buy the Hybrid, and no discounts ever seem to work. One pet peeve of mine for a company like Monos with no retail and a high-ticket product is to be confident enough to pay for returns if I don't like the product (unused, of course). Away with retail stores all over NYC, it provides free returns. Not sure why Monos won't, I wrote then and they just talked around it. Thanks. Jay
While I enjoyed your Monos hybrid carry on review, it would be fairer and more informative if you had also discussed the cons. You failed to mention that the hybrid carry on is heavier and has less internal storage capacity than Monos' regular carry on.
Sorry, they changed our code in January and we can’t change it in the video! I’m glad you were able to use it! And if you’re checking luggage, maybe, but I would never really use one.
(Question) - Thank you for this review! I’m debating between these exact two pieces! I set out to buy only zipperless for longevity. I’m still going to get their large hybrid to avoid a zipper on checked luggage that gets thrown around, however, I’m now leaning toward the regular carry on due primarily to the extra capacity, but also the lower weight (sg carry on limit is 15lb), and lower price. My only hesitation is longevity due to the zipper. You mentioned toward end of the video that both will last a lifetime. Do you really think the zipper will hold up a long time? If so I’ll go that route for the carry on for the extra space and lower weight…it will only be checked at boarding in those rare circumstances they force me to, so not so concerned about the security aspect of my carry on like I am with my checked. Thanks in advance and when I figure out which carry on to get I’m going to use your code for that and a large hybrid!
Bad experience with this company. Shipping is unreliable and late even when you pay for it. About to leave on vacation and they haven't even shipped it yet. Go with a reputable company, not this one.
@@ItsTheKellys I tried the express shipping, 2-day delivery. Turns out that they had it in stock...in Mexico. I thought it was coming out of Vancouver. On the day I should have had the luggage, it was in San Diego, U.S.A. and I got emailed invoices from DHL for over $60 for customs/duty. To Monos' credit, they refunded my full amount of over $1000 for the Hybrid large and medium but it took 3 days of texts and complaints 'til it was resolved. I also had to deal with DHL and file a refusal of delivery. Very difficult to deal with Monos. I'd probably buy the luggage from a brick and mortar store but the on-line experience was agonizing.
Me too, ordered for a Xmas present on November 4th. Arrived late January. Endless emails, messages etc from the ludicrous “Happiness Director”. This was shipping to the UK
Absolute trash company and suitcase. This is a horrible company. If you want to make a return for sending the wrong suitcase theyll charge $40. I thought Canadians were nice people.
