@@Pugrug. endurance racers only race for about 2 hours max on a set of tires and that is with the slowest class at LM, most of the time a set lasts 3 stints or 1-1.5 hours with 3 fuel stops in that time
I believe Pirelli (current tyres used in F1) keeps their tyre formula extremely secret. Most people just need to know about soft, mid, and hard tyres for F1
F1 tyres are changing tho, as they’re becoming low profile tyres. I think it’s gonna make the cars look weird and change too much of the performance of it, I hate this rule change.
If i may add NASCAR will be changing into to 1 Lug nut in 2022 when they introduce the next gen car. Also a video comparing the diferent use of aerodynamics across motorsports would probably be instering.
@@wyattroncin941 it actually won’t. It takes roughly the same amount of time to change one tire in NASCAR as it does in F1 and that’s with the 5 lug nuts per tire. It takes around 0.8 seconds for the tire changer to remove and another 0.8 seconds to replace the lug nuts(they glue the lug nuts on the tires before the race)
And its probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen NASCAR do. I usually try to be receptive to their changes, but NASCAR is slowly taking the "stock" out stock cars racing. And if it continues in this direction I might end up not watching anymore. And I feel like majority of NASCAR fans might be with me on this
@@tylercady3985 what do u mean "slowly"? the only thing stock on a stock car is roughly the shape of the body. there is NOTHING stock on a a stock are anymore.
Add on the MotoGP pitstops: there are now marked out lines for safety at right angles to each other for bike in and bike out due to safety so they dont misjudge and damage the 2nd bike when they come in to change
In NASCAR, there is no such thing as time penalties given out to drivers during pit stops. It is either a drive-through penalty under green flag conditions or tail end of the longest line under yellow flags. Tail end meaning behind all cars including ones who are laps behind you.
nascar crew members are allowed over the wall when the car is one stall in front of the cars stall, not before it’s stopped. Refuelers in nascar also can’t do any work to the car except fuel the car. Back years ago they used to carry or remove the tool to do track bar adjustments but that was banned years ago now.
I think you are thinking of something else because 1. The car must be at most 3-pit stalls away when the crew members get into position, 2. Refuelers can do any of the adjustments such as track-bar adjustments and if the team choose to not put fuel into the car they can also do front end adjustments and spoiler adjustments, (though the spoiler adjustment must be minimal)
@@sevenofor you are allowed over the wall one stall before yours. You get ready 3 stalls before but you can’t be over the wall before the car is one stall before yours. It almost cost chase Elliot a championship this year at martinsville where the jack man was over the wall too soon. But reset before service because he went just before chase was one stall away. Refuelers can’t do work because they are refueling and that’s their job. If they don’t have a gas can I wouldn’t call them a refueler.
Also for Supercars, in endurance racers with multiple drivers, they are permitted one extra person to assist the drivers entering and exiting the car (but they cannot perform any other duties at the stop). Not all teams use this person as it isn't compulsory to have one. Teams are also limited to those who are in the pit lane for any repairs made to the car in the pit bay, but if the car is in the garage there is no limit to who or how many can work on repairing the car.
2:00 this rule was only a test and was used 2 times in 2020. It was only a test and has not been officially stated as rule past 2021. Apart from those 2 races last year, all truck and Xfinity races will have normal pit stops with no additional rules.
Although the speed of pit stops in the NASCAR Cup Series is going to speed up starting in 2022 when the Next-Gen Cup car is implemented since with that car, NASCAR will be going from the traditional 5 lug nut wheel to a center single lug nut wheel, which should put it on par with Australian Supercars
You need quite some skill to coordinate with 19 more people and do something in 2.5 seconds (with no room for error or the pit stop time doubles), even if that something is smaller.
NHRA Top Fuel: 1 hour between runs to rebuild the engine and clutch, repack parachute, change any tires that need changing and then be back on the line ready to go.
You guys forgot the light controller on the F1 pits. For those that don't know. They are there to override the automated system in case there is an issue in the stop or a car coming down the pitlane to prevent an unsafe release.
In the WRC, if a car has an accident, a FIA marshal inspects the roll cage. If no damage is found then the cars go into what they call super rally. Mechanics are given exactly 3 hours to make all the repairs they can. They are not allowed to get near the car before or after the the designated time so its hard to plan their strategy for that time.
Nascar Xfinity series has the same rules as the Cup teams. The change affects the two Xfinity Series races at Iowa Speedway plus the Road America and Mid-Ohio road courses. Same with the Truck series.
Don't forget Super Formula in Japan, which uses an robotic jack in the front and only three people that can change the tyres.(Not in 2020 though since Covid happened)
Hi. Just for suggestion. All overtake helping method or device all across the motorsport (Fan-boost, DRS, Push to pass, etc.). Be safe. Happy new year.
What's not mentioned here is the different interpretations of the word "repair" across motorsports If you lose a front wing in F1, you switch the entire nose. If your bodywork is creating too much drag in NASCAR, you hit it with several hammers until it's flat again.
When showing a fast pit stop in F1 they showed a Ferrari pit stop. Meanwhile Ferrari are spending about 20 seconds changing one of Vettel’s tyres in 2020.
So well explained! As for the next video how about explaining the LMH and LMDH rules while also comparing them and how the BOP could come into play to balance both set of regulations?
There was a few things wrong on the NASCAR Part but as far as I know this is a mostly English channel so it is alright. NASCAR now allows 6 men over the wall, some things are a bit different within the pit-stop, and NASCAR does not have time penalties but rather will sometimes park someone in the pits for a lap or something of that sort
They got the nascar rules wrong in this video. Its actually the tires just have to stay in the pit box within a mechanics arm reach at all times. They do not have to return the tires over the pit wall for a car to leave the box
I know they were experimenting with those NASCAR pit stop changes in 2020 for the races not attached to a Cup series race, but I haven't seen any word on them being in effect for 2021... Also, I saw that Indycars have to use two different compounds on road courses as well...
1:14 Ah yes! I love my fuel tool to have a sniper scope and a laser sight to fuel up the car, along with Extended fuel capacity in my fuel tool as well.
This has most probably been answered but in the truck series if the truck gets a puncher outside a yellow flag period are they allowed to change tyre on safety grounds?
In the movie it is because the other Ford team has a NASCAR pit crew. NASCAR may not be the fastest in motorsport but are well known as being the strongest both in terms of the cars and pit-crew members
funny you diss NASCAR pit crews. when the Lotus F1 team went to the Indy 500 in the 60s they hired a NASCAR pit crew for their 3rd attempt because they were so good, they won the race thanks to them.
somewhat dissapointed GTWC and or IMSA was left out, especially since WTCR and BTCC are in it, two series where you just gonna retire the car and prepare for the next race if you have to come in for repairs but decent video regardless
I get that there are media rights involved etc but would have been nice to actually see all the different stops. I was hoping they might be shown one after another at the end but no such luck.
2017 was a crazy year. The #2 Porsche had to repair their front axle and were already 19 laps off the lead, all the other LMP1 cars also had issues later in the race so they won.
What's true about the fact that in WEC they have a max. fuel load etc. ? And because of this the stops don't really affect the running order. Unless it's the same class... If F2 is only slightly longer in pitting a car. Why doesn't F1 do the same (thinking about the budget cap.) ? Stabilizing the car could be done in the same way as in the DTM... A bit longer pit stops wouldn't be to bad. And when damage occurs 2 more people on the car.
In Endurance races it's definitly necessary, nobody should drive 6, 12 or 24 hours at a time. In most sprint GT series it helps with funding when there are multiple drivers per car. The stops would be the same length even without driver changes btw.
A shout out to add blocking. I have no idea how any of you put up with all the adds here. Make your life happier, get a blocker so you don't have to see that garbage.
Ironic that F1 pitstops are sometimes the most exciting part of an F1 race and yet they're over so fast. Q - "Did you watch the highlights of the F1 race?" A - "yep, all 3 seconds".
It's not just the fast pit stops (although this shows a tendency towards efficiency). It's everything. The speed, the international status, the history of the championship (and of Grand Prix racing in general), the prestige that this form of racing has acquired throughout the years and even the liberty of teams to make their own cars within the regulations. Since 1950, F1 has been the pinnacle of technology. Even legendary teams like Ferrari and McLaren and racing pioneers like Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Renault and Aston Martin contribute to F1's status. No other championship can top more than 2-3 of these.
Indycars is a semi spec series, with the chassis and Aero the same for all cars with two engine supliers, so the racing is closer and a hell of a lot cheaper. and they do both road courses and ovals so there is a real mix of drivers.
"As of 2018 nascar has 5 lugnuts" umm it's been like that since the beginning and when 2022 hits, it'll be one lug. Nascar also allows pit crews to get off the wall right before the pitbox and the cars are also allowed to be stopped backwards as long are they are in the box
Do some better research next time. In nascar crew guys can jump off the wall when their car is 3 boxes away and they can leave before the tires are over the wall they just can't lose control of them
And it's not a time penalty it's a pass through pit road penalty. Yes that takes time, but there's no 5, 10, etc time penalty to your finish. You'll get black flagged and stopped scoring if you don't do a pass through
