Fully agree with the heel changes in the 9. I couldn't wear the 8's due to poor heel fit with my anatomy. Glad to see this update in the 9, it feels a lot more secure.
Personally, I had the worst knee problems with my Clifton 9’s. Couldn’t run more than 1 mile at time without pain.Way too much play in the footbed. Totally went away with On Cloud 5. Now regularly running 5-10 miles. I learned that I need more firm and supportive shoe vs. a cushy, spongy shoe. Clifton is fine for walking around the house or down the street but doesn’t cut it (for me) on a run. I realize everyone is different. So, this is more of a heads up. My advice, go to a shoe store with a great return policy and really try out many different pairs. I do like how the Hokas look though.
I bought a pair of 8's on sale and had to send them back. I am wondering if anyone else had this issue. They fit great and were very comfortable except it felt like a hard seam was rubbing in the middle of my ankle. It felt almost like a hard piping was sewn in but it must have just been a seam. I looked at the 9's and they have the same high back so I didn't want to take a chance so I opted for the Bondi's which have a lower backing. I still wear a Clifton 4 and have 3 other pairs of Hoka's and never had this problem before. I like the look of the Cliftons better than the Bondi's but that ankle issue was not going to work for me.
man the arch support on the 8 killed my foot, if its the same as that then this is a hard pass, it was the perfect setup on the 7's arch shape wise, what happened? its seems they are only thinking about narrow feet with high arches for the clifton line now :(
I saw a review where someone said that they fixed the arch issue this time around by widening the midfoot area and that the shoe no longer aggravated their feet. I agree about the narrowness though, I don’t understand how they haven’t figured out that they need a slightly wider toe box. Hoka is a frustrating brand of shoes. I’ve never been able to wear the Clifton’s due to the arch issue but I will try the 9 and see how it goes.
@@lol_average5808 I've kinda discover the latest Saucony ride, because I had to look for an alternative, they do the trick nicely, and it's slightly more bouncier, not as "rockier" if that makes sense 😂 but good enough substitute, i also managed, by the skin of my teeth, get what probably was the last Clifton 7 as an extra backup pair when the 8s didn't work out for me
@@lol_average5808 You had to send the 9's back due to the arch issue? I have been running in Altra's for the past year but as far as non zero drop shoes go I have found that the New Balance Rebels in a size wide and a half size up feel good. Also the New balance More v3 and the Hoka Mach5 work. The Mach 5 in wide is a decently good shoe and has no arch bite.
I started running in Clifton Since day 1 last year I moved to on cloud monster because I was bored with the Clifton last few years I love my on clouds but will pick up theses Clifton’s as they seem to be interesting updates
Have been wanting to try the cloud monsters but am hesitant on small rocks getting stuck in the holes at the bottom of the shoe…not sure if that has happened to you yet?
anyone think getting the 8 is still worth it as a daily trainer. been using the novablast 3's for a while and thinking about trying something new and im thinking getting the clifton 8 or 9 would be a good option of course considering if the 8's are in stock
