Peluva athlete Brad Kearns delivers a comprehensive step-by-step lesson to learn all the important attributes of correct running technique, and how to implement these simple, easy-to-understand and visualize tips immediately. This instructional video can be tremendously helpful for you run with greater ease, efficiency and enjoyment, and to prevent micro-trauma and overuse injuries caused by poor technique. It's best to learn correct running technique wearing Peluvas, because elevated, cushioned shoes compromise good technique and posture.
Here are the key attributes of excellent running technique that you’ll learn in this video:
1. Posture: balanced center of gravity, straight and elongated spine
2. Vertical force production: this is the key to increasing running speed
3. Forward-facing: Strive to keep pelvis, torso and shoulders facing forward, minimizing inefficient side-to-side rotation (thoracic and shoulder mobility is okay)
4. Arms: pump from the shoulders, forearms and hands relax, pick and preserve angle (e.g., 90 degrees)
5. Footstrike: Land underneath COG, tibia angle vertical, midfoot landing
6. Bicycle pattern: A great cue is to run like you’re pedaling a bicycle-dorsiflex the foot as soon as you leave the ground so foot comes quickly up and under glutes-a circular motion
7. All speeds: Correct technique is relevant at all speeds from slow jogging to sprinting! You are just making shorter, less forceful strides (smaller pedaling circle)

Be careful getting injuries to change your running form and equipment following this video, which is the old-school technique against main stream.

Very good video on striking and posture. I’m 76 years old. I have some running faults brought about by age, but this video will help me try to correct those faults.

I can run In place but I have to lean a lot to move forward and end up with problems like anterior pelvic tilt and straight shuffling legs. Aside from working on mobility any other ways to fix my stride? Thanks

Running with good form is the best way to fix your stride. So if you can only maintain correct angles for a short time, you do that and then walk to recover, then resume. This is a much better workout than shuffling along for miles and miles with poor form!

I liked the video. It's concise 7 clearly explained, but I wonder about dismissing typical running shoe cushioning while predicating from a rubberized track. If you're forced to run on paved surfaces for all your training, I can't believe minimalist shoes are the way to go.

I’ve been running for the past 40 years average 5-20 miles a week totally barefoot maybe socks on pavement no problem

Great comment for sure. We do not recommend endurance running in minimalist shoes, especially on hard surfaces. Since most all runner's feet are poorly adapted. The best strategy is to try and life a barefoot-inspired lifestyle, get your feet strong, and run in your favorite shoes while trying to exhibit good form, particularly the important midfoot landing.

Barefoot shoes are too minimalist for me due arthritis in my knee.

Good comment. We don't recommend people do endurance running in minimalist shoes because its very difficult to adapt. My videos show doing low-impact drills in Peluvas, and I think most runners will benefit from doing lots of walking in barefoot style shoes and running in their choice of shoes, WHILE striving to improve form with that key midfoot landing

The longer you send your arms forward when actually moving forward the longer your feed will be moving forward breaking you and leading to all types of problems. Not a very good recommendation I'm afraid. Also - none - 0% of the elite runners have a 90 degree angle on their arm movements when running so this is way off.

Good point, I said 'pick an angle' and mention 90 degrees as a simple visual. True many elites exhibit a tighter angle and a varied angle during stride pattern. Im not sure a jogger has direct application to elite runner for arm angle? As a triathlete, I found creating tighter angle caused bicep fatigue since I was running in a fatigued upper body state. Trying to lower arms to around 90 degrees as a thought cue is helpful for many runners who tense in the shoulders too. I dont understand the first part of the comment sorry, but thanks for taking the time to comment.
