Thank you for posting your height and weight, that helps put parameters around the model and height you chose. I'm of the mind that too big or too small of a bag is bad, but when they are too big you have options like adding clothes to the inside to take up dead space if need be. When the bag is too small and can't loft up, you're out of options with that bag and assuming it's filled with down it will not be nearly as warm. I'm 5'9" and 190 lbs so I have a Kodiak 6 ft for cold weather (maybe this is useful for other readers).

Did you select the MF or the GWS outer fabric?

@@azclaimjumper Go for the MF. It's lighter and incredibly soft!

Hey Aaron! Thank you so much for your awesome videos - you've definitely been a source of motivation for me. I'm looking to get either the Antelope or Versalite for mountaineering, namely Mt Shasta in June and Lassen as soon as possible. I want this bag to last me and work for 14er's in general on the west coast, like Rainier. Which would you recommend long term for the mountains I'm considering? Also, do you recommend I get free 3 oz overfill from Hermit's Hut? Thanks again man!
@ALinsdau
@ALinsdau 6 месяцев назад
You're trying to cover two very different use cases. If you're only in summer in mountains with zero weather, the Versalite would be a great choice. But Rainer - that can get real bad real quick. I'd go for a GWS zero degree bag. If you get caught in an unexpected storm with a 20ºF bag and the storm takes the air to 0º and the windchill hits -20ºF, you're going to be hurting. My buddy got stuck in a surprise storm on Shasta - started with a gorgeous day and ended with frostbite and lost until he was rescued the next morning. Never underestimate the mountains. Stay safe out there.

Hey Aaron, I decided on a 6'6 Antelope. I figure that'll cover me best for now. I know you enjoy your Helleberg Nammatj, and also use 6'6 WM bags. Do you find that your feet hit up against the end of the interior tent? Any condensation or loft compression issues with that?@@ALinsdau

Hi Aaron...thank you for your terrific videos and knowledge sharing. I viewed your Gore Windstopper vs Microfiber video along with your Antelope comparison. My winter backpacking trips are typically during temperatures in the zero to 25 degree F range. I typically use dynema single wall tents depending on forecast. It’s my impression viewing your video that you select the GWS for your sub zero expeditions or when you are anticipating wet weather, and MF for dry conditions above zero degrees F. Realizing that there are many variables which bag fabric would you recommend if you could only choose one of the WM Antelope series?
@ALinsdau
@ALinsdau 3 года назад
The most flexible is GWS. It's tougher and more weather resistant. The downside is it's heavier and requires a bigger stuff sack. I would stay with what I have knowing I have other options, too.

Yes, Denali, Yellowstone in the winter, are regularly -20ºF or lower.

your allways talking about sleeping bags but in your trips what tent do you use i use a hilliberg soulo allthough i like camping in winter in the north west coast of england just outside liverpool i don,t get in temps like you do lol the coldest i have been in is january in -5 zero 0.

If you move all the down to the top of the bag, how much lower temperature can you push those bags?@ALinsdau
@ALinsdau
@ALinsdau 3 года назад
I'd say an additional 10ºF at most. I've taken my WM Megalite down to 5ºF using that technique but it was still a chilly night. I'd only suggest it as a backup, last-resort option.

Question, hello sir, im trying to decide on either the Versalite or the Alpinlite and the main concern is how wide do i go? the long version which id be getting is a 63 inch wide for the versalite and 65 inch for the alpinlite. im a slim 6ft 4 guy so i dont need a wide bag because im large, but i do side sleep and i kind of curl up, so would the extra 2 inches of width be best? ideally id prefer the versalite if its wide enough, because of its higher temp rating for only 1 more oz. thanks for your time and your great videos sir.

Western Mountaineering does not have sales and does not allow its dealers to discount their sleeping bags.

I echo what the others say about sales. I got one on sale around Thanksgiving here in the US, I think in 2018. Be patient (if that's an option) and keep your eyes peeled.
