Thanks for the comparison! I borrowed the 55mm 1.2 from a local camera store and took some photos on the street and the park and I thought I would not like it but ended up loving it! It basically has two looks in one lens. Dreamy and soft wide open (but sharp enough for portraits, even on a D850) and unbelievably sharp stopped down. I have never seen sharper images with my D850 sensor even though I have a 28mm 1.4E and a 60mm macro. This 55mm stopped down is perfect for cityscapes or landscapes when you want to capture textures. I want one now...

I had the 58mm Nokton since 2009 and love the look it gives. It has its up´s and down´s like over exposure and softness at wide open, but I really love it. This lens together with 28mm/2.8 color-skopar is a perfect match for travel.

Thank you for the comparison video. Ya'll just saved me $700 I was thinking of pickup the 55 just to say I have a 1.2 but I don't see a major difference between the two, though.... I could argue the bokeh is a more pleasing with the 58 as well as the overall look of the images. Also, did either of you notice how the 58 tends to overexpose by at least half a stop ??? My 58 overexposes by a full stop even when my meter gives me a 'correct' exposure. I noticed it that on your sample photos too, assuming the settings were identical. The Angry Photographer theorized the 58 is a 1.4 on paper but in reality, performs as a 1.2 as his explanation for why it overexposes.

My 58mm 1.4 does the same thing. It seems to behave like a 1.2 in real world use. I'm not seeing enough to justify buying the 55mm.

I have had the Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 Nokton for around 10 years and I love the lens. It just gives a little bit of a different look compared to modern lenses which is very pleasing. Also, The lens is great when adapted to APS-C. It basically becomes the perfect portrait lenses (and I say this as someone who has 4 85mm lenses (real and equivalent)). Not as sharp as many but stop it down little and it is just great.

Bokeh from the 58mm is some how smoother. I really like it at f2.

I hope the manufacturer/designer comes to town and chats with your team. I bet that would be an interesting interview. Very underrated company and excellent comparison.

The DOF marking scale looks larger on the 58mm then the 55mm. I hope Voightlander still make Nikon F mount lenses in the near future and make bigger DOF scale marking like the old Voigtlander SL Series I 75/2.5 Color-Heliar ☺. Would be great to make a compare review of lenses with big DOF markings on the lenses. It makes Zone Focus easy.

Aaaaand I will be getting the 58mm F/1.4, because it'll match my Zf more, especially with the silver nose. Yes, YES and YEEESSS to voigtlander.

Well the 58mm f 1.4 was considered by some photographs better than the plastic afs G 58mm from Nikon for less than 1/3 of the price. This seems more or less a newer version very similar with shorter focale and faster aperture to give the same bokeh and taking advantage of the new coatings. As I am now user of Z mount system I am impatient of finding these ais lenses in the new Z mount. Voightlander already delivered the 40mm f1.2 with seems excellent and at rather reasonnable price I am sure a z version of one of those two will be delivered shortly always full metal and with aperture ring… which Nikon definitely seems to have forgotten …

Can a Nikon Z mirrorless camera electronically control the aperture on the 58mm f/1.4? My understanding is that it can on the 55mm f/1.2 when the aperture is set to f/16 but I wasn’t sure if the same applied to the 58mm /1.4. Thanks!

Hi there, thanks for the video! In your opinion, what 1.2 or 1.4 lens around the 50mm focal length are sharp wide open? (for F mount) Thanks for your time.

Sent it back after one day because the bokeh balls have bright green edges. If your camera supports it try the Nikon 58mm f1.4 AF-S G.

If CosinaVL would do a 20mm 2.8 with well controlled distortion I'll be all over it.

Already at 0:41it's obvious that the bokeh of both lenses isn't that great. In my opinion few or no other 50ish lens for Nikon F come close to the Nikon 58mm f1.4 AF-S G.
@ngterry9653
@ngterry9653 Год назад
yes, the Voigtlander 58/55 bokeh is less smoother than the nikon afs 58mm, but I have seen the sigma 50mm f1.4 non-art lens has similar bokeh to the nikon 58mm 1.4G.
@stefan_becker
@stefan_becker Год назад
@@ngterry9653 No. The Nikon 58mm f1.4 G has a superior bokeh (but maybe less sharpness and more focus shift)
