I think each one danced in accordance with her character. This is what most people fail to grasp in such dance offs. Padmini is supposed to be tha graceful one doing fully classical while Vyjayanthimala is suppoaed to be aggressive with sharper moves. They both displayed that perfectly.
No one come close to natural face expression as from Vyajanthi MaLa Ji. Just amazing.! And I have repeated myself again n again watch Vyajanthi MaLa wrist movements. You will forget to breathe while watching.
Vyjayanthi padmini both are dancing goddess they have no comparison both are best in her beauty talent etc but vyjayanthi amma is my personal favourites
Both are heavenly. But Padmini ji's peacock dance, really outstanding. I am surprised that how she moved her legs up and specially in hindi that step "koyel se sikha gana maine, nachna banke mor se", like she presents a peacock. Salute Mam. Rest in peace.🙏🙏🙏🙏
You should also appreciate the casting of these two beautiful ladies in this movie. One is the gentle type and the other is a firecracker but both equally beautiful and ferocious when pushed. And a love triangle. Such an awesome movie. They should remake this instead of cooking up silly stories.
U people are not aware that vajyanti Amman played an arrogant princess in the both versions of movie so her dance show her arrogance as princess but padami Amman in the movie coming from hard ship of life to get back her bother his throne and its their characters in both versions which shows in their dance! Padmini Amman and Vajyanti Amman both r equally talented and beautiful and equally awesome brilliant in every dance form! So stop comparing both and enjoooooooy this dance face off! I have seen it now 100 times!
As padmini was famous during that time in tamil, she was given more preference in the dance with her steps and close ups !!! same applies for Vijayanthi mala for Hindi !!! Both of them are best Dancers !!! But my personal favorite must be Padmini amma !!!

About to compare the both videos. I have seen them recently. Unbelievable what they were able to do back in 1958. I'm neither hindi nore tamil, but the tamil version looks like a perfect dancing art video, while the hindi version looks more like a dance acting video. You see parts of it were taken from the same shots.
Infact very few know that both dancers were made to dance separately, only last 2 days they were made to dance together.... Neither of each knew what was other performing... In that non digital era both frames were latter merged.. And wen both actors were shown their performannce both actresses were so amazed...infact praising each other
i think the beggining and the song was definitely re-shot but the ending competiton part was the same. It was joined it for sure cause when you see it its the same.
Incredible, although I think Padmini demonstrates more classical moves; the translation from Tamil into English is not great ! But let's admit that both are - or were FANTASTIC
Yesterday only read a old magazine when directed narrated the song sequence both Vyathanthi mala refused that i will not win coz padmini is excellent classical dancer the same padmini also refused stating that mala is an excellent kathak dancer so director changed the song script by cutting the light lamp.. excellent heroines
@@love143ization sure... but I m very sure she never trained professionally in kathak. She is Tanjavor bani bharatanatyam dancer and she has learned kathakali briefly. U can see in the movie Prince where she will dance 3 different desi dance with Helen...
Definitely Vjyantimala is the the most talented n graceful dancer in Indian cinema. Just watch her speed, movements and the her facial expressions. Wow! Padimin is a good dancer but she can't do modern n her speed is not fast as Vyjanti. In fact her sister Ragini has the speed and grace compare to Padimin, but since she is not top heroine, people not aware. Watch Vikramavitan n Ranisamutha movies the sister' s dancing.
some people don't understand that y they said that padmini did gd in classical dancing. In this dance padmini dance full classical but Vijaythimala's semi classic. Vijaythimala is the Empress for Dance not only padmini, nobody can come near her. Tamil chi da!

U must understand that since both of them from different style she still managed to stand shoulder to shoulder with vyjanthimala. Kerala bani is not like Tamil Nadu bani where Tamil Nadu bani very much emphasis on angga suttam, nrithya suttam and abinaya. They has their own way to express bharatanatyam. Anyone know how this film was shot? Did they do one take in Tamil and then one in Hindi right after, or was it shot in one language entirely first and then with a different cast and crew a few weeks/months later?
I have worked in film. Most likely they would shoot one in Tamil and right after that in Hindi. This would simply be more practical and cost effective.
look closely, Vyjanthimala would have won because she was stronger (strengthewise) when swirling Padmini around she becomes alarmed so does Gemini. So he quickly moved to end the competition!
wow just look at the ease speed movements of great dancer of Vijaythimala. In fact Palomino lose to her sister Ragini in grace n speed. Just bcos she acted as heroine in Tamil movies, whereas Ragini got no chance that padmini known to people. Furthermore Vijaythimala shifted to Bombay
obviously they remade Vanjikottai Valiban into Hindi, coz u can actually see a lot of differences in both Vanjikottai Valiban and Rajtilak, like Vyjayanthimala's mannerisms, PS Veerapa was replaced by Pran for the Hindi version etc...GREAT...
