Nice video. In the Andes (South America), there is an instrument similar to both you presented. It´s called Quenacho. It´s made of a species of andean bambu, it´s a nice intrument too .

Shakuhachi is 54cm, any flute longer or shorter than that is not a Shakuhachi 😉 and I used baby oil with tea tree oil mix to take care of my bamboo or wooden flute. If you use a microfiber to wipe it dry both inside and outside of the flute after every usage and take care of them by oil it won't cracked.

Xiao has a purer sound. Shakuhachi is different but beautiful too. Do they have the same scale?

ah!that the hole xiao(洞簫)it used to be play with the guqin and the sound is wilder and greater I play the hole xiao too and I really recommend it instead the western style xiao

the third section of my xiao has like double (at same position) holes on the 3rd piece. like six of them. what the heck! do you cover these with wrap? for tuning? me so confused

I can play it, but I don't like it, because playing a "happy bday song" is lame, and it's like you play the same old tune for everyone, what's special about your bday? Hate that kinda standard song, LOL! So when people request a bday song, it's their own song, no a song you share with others, LOL!
