The cardioid capsule captures more focused sound in both cases. This test does not mention the distance from the microphone which seems to be a lot in both cases and less than ideal for a space with such unsuitable acoustics.

This is a good example. I usually use cardiod for lead vocals and omni for background vocals. Same with lead vs rhythm tracks and instruments.

Not that I invented it, but I remember writing about this technique in the 90s. The thinner sound of the omni compared to the cardioid close-to can nicely separate the backgrounds from the lead. The extra ambience might be in play too. DM

Very good video. i use omni overhead for latin percussion when mic channels are at a premium. One omni hanging above will get everything. My Shure KSM 141 is very smooth on omni and helps tame high end transients such as cymbals, timbales, and wind chimes.
