Dear all,
Every musical instrument has a specific sound radiation pattern, which is highly dependent from frequency. We wanted to record sound samples of the most important orchestra instruments to make these differences audible for interested people working and studying in the field of Recording Arts. Those samples have been recorded in a realistic environment and situation, means as stereo recordings in a concert hall. The listeners have to be aware of the fact, that those recordings have some kind of general validity but at the same time are also specific for the recording situation in this hall with the specific used instrument, piece and not to forget the player. We would like to thank all those who have contributed to this project and supported it. Please listen it. soundmedia.jp/nuaudk/
3.June 2018
We started subjective evaluation experiments from July 17, 2018. Please vote for the perfer position of the microphone you think is fit for that music. We aggregate by Job and reproduction environment. This program gets your IP address but only uses it to identify the country and if the same person vote several times at the same time, we recognise it. We are looking forward to publishing this data. We think It help for us.

Thank you for this work. Unfortunately, AB mic placement is not mono-compatible because of phase differences between the two channels. Mono compatibility allows control of stereo width, which is important for many production techniques. Mono-compatible mic placements are XY and, better, mid-side (M/S). ORTF is almost mono-compatible.

All true, but a choir or organ recorded with some decent omnis in a decent acoustic sounds so much better!

Super! Thanks! But how to chose right sound (mic). I like more than 50% of mic placements on every instrument you recorded. :)

I always wondered why sample library engineers like Spitfire Audio always make a big deal on the microphone position in their products. Messing with the knob back and forth doesn't explain much, but now I understand.

Hi, i like to record a symphony orchesta with a AB, aboveve the sholders of the conductor, 3 meter high. The distance of the AB =37,4 cm. Then 45 degrees in reality is 45 degrees in the standard stereo play back

Well -- the hall is not exactly the most charming acoustically ( I know from experience there. ! ) , however even more important to find good positioning i suppose !
