It sounds to me, like it's simply a filter issue causing the difference between the CQM and the other two implementations. Even for me who isn't an OPL connoisseur, I'm surprised at hos little difference there is between CQM and OPL3/ESFM (which are basically identical). The more I hear CQM, the less I understand all the hate it gets. My SB 16 PnP (CT2940? if I recall correctly, which I might well not do) is one of my best testing cards. It works in every system, every OS I've tried it with, despite the need to initialise it via PnP drivers it's just a dream to work with. It's hardly ever my card of choice for a more permanent, or long-term setup though, but it's never caused me grief, where other cards, that you'd imagine was easier to get to work, just don't want to play ball.
