On camera, the screen looks a little different; the older one looked like the maze was a deeper blue than the newer one, which looked a little more washed out. But you said they looked the same to you, so I have to wonder if that's a function of how the camera picks up the different screen technologies. (My 20-second googling says the TFT screen tends to be brighter, more vibrant, higher refresh rate, and higher power consumption -- could be interesting to test battery life between the two.)
To my eyes the 2024 screen looks more washed out but that may just have been the angle? Great video as always Jon and a word to Basic Fun ... "Friends Don't Ghost Friends" :-) Keep up the awesome work!
It does seem to have a bit more light bleed around the edge. But being so far apart, even if the screens are unchanged, they're very likely a different run and possibly even a different supplier.
I'll be honest as cool as this looks I wish we would get some of the other Pacman games like Pac-Mania which I have fond memories of. I remember going to Pizza Hut with my grandparents and they had a Pac-Mania arcade machine. Pac & Pal, Jr. Pac-Man and Super Pac-man would be awesome too. What would really be cool is if they made a replica of the Baby Pac-man game which was a pinball/arcade game hybrid.
It also has some more light bleed around the edges. Even if it's the same type of screen, coming five years later it's almost certainly from a different run and maybe even a different supplier.
Inky is smaller on the new model, Same face just smaller. Yeah The 🟨 is different, The new one is Mustard 🟨.My dad was a PAC-MAN Wizard, MS. PAC-MAN too.
Basic Fun should connect with you Jon. My Arcade has prospered because of your support. I’m heading to Vero in early June any suggestions for fishing and dining? Thanks!
It could be they're not doing anything more with the line and so don't have anything to talk to me about, but even THAT would be information! 😁 Vero's several hours south of me, so afraid I don't have any regional knowledge of that chunk of Florida to make recommendations. Have a fun trip!
The new screen has a poor backlight situation going on. Maybe they are making these with cheaper parts to squeeze a few dollars more out of the license/
2024 seems to have a brighter screen. You said it was TFT, right? What I'd like to see is a re-release of the MyArcade Namco Museum, with a controller that doesn't stink. That's its main issue... the controls are kind of naff.
It also has a bit more light bleed around the edges. They're so close - and even if they're the same, being five years apart they are at the very least from a different batch or maybe even supplier.
I always had high hopes for this line. Again target has these and have head them nonstop since they stopped selling them. I wished it was going to be one more when they did mortal Kombat with different decades of games like maybe one of the gun games like Terminator or or something maybe a racing wheel game like pole position possibly other food old school arcade games including a couple vector based ones like major havoc. They should really have just kept this going cause for me it was the last real enjoyable hunt I had looking in Walmart toy aisle for new games to add to my small arcade collection. Oh well
I got this one because of the original review you made, so keep that in mind. I love how the fact you play 2 stages and stopped playing after it int the original review. You’d be better off playing the 2600 version, you’d be better off playing the gameboy version, you’d be better off playing the Coleco tabletop. After level 4 the ghost don’t flicker white. The game has random ghost AI, the 2609 version doesn’t have random ghost AI! Playing the #1 is better!
This dude's dedication to the details is unbelievable: if only he had devoted himself to reviewing the vegan options at Portland strip clubs, he'd have a million subscribers.
Announced _long in advance:_ September 1st, 2024 = Basic Fun Arcade Classics *Tetris.* Red shell. Presumably original software. If you don't know, now you know ------.
Hey Jon i know this is off topic but could you review the Oregon trail handheld? I got recommended your micro video and was wondering if you could do the other
A bit disappointed despite the fact this version himself is solid but the fact the ghosts don't behave correctly is a turn down for me, but if I bought this to have some downscaled fun well I think it's worth it
8:28 Why would a company owe you a reply? I've come to expect all companies to be a faceless non-human entity that only interacts with other faceless non-human entities.
What does "cash grab" even mean? I see that thrown around a lot, but if a company creates something we want, they deserve to be compensated for it and earn revenue. If I've earned cash, I grab it, too - and nothing wrong with that.
It's decidedly not that - brand new this year with a new model number and all, and it's at full price. If you're suggesting it WILL be overstocked and on clearance, I doubt that, too. In all the reports I've gotten, never more than two on the shelf in any given store.
Yeah, but it’s probably the same pcb inside. Just reorder the case with a different date, and rerun the packaging with new slightly modified, screen print.
The shot where you had them both together top to top, the highlight reflection kind of made it look like one had a thicker screen bezel than the other, but for all intents and purposes it’s the same product. How are you supposed to play these things anyway? Do you hold them like a handheld, or are you supposed to put them on a surface, and pretend it’s an actual arcade machine?
@@mikemonk4375 They are kind of hybrid - you can hold them in your hand or set on the table as I did in the video. I believe more than anything they're just fun collectibles and display items that also work. 😁
