Five years ago, My Arcade released the Namco Museum Mini Player. It was a 10” cabinet with a vertical aspect ratio screen, loaded with real arcade versions of a number of classics like Pac-Man, Dig Dug, & Galaga. It was released right alongside the first wave of Micro Players that included NES ports of the same games. And yet, inexplicably, those took off like a rocket, while this product faded into the background. What happened to the Mini Player? Why did simpler products take off while this little beauty became a footnote in the story of arcade toys? Let's try to figure it out in this video.
