Below you'll find the description and product links for this video, and, as always, I recommend you price shop for the lowest price possible for the tool you choose:
DIY--Using a skewer, a match, a Q-tip with the cotton removed, the end of a paint brush (basically anything that has a stick shape.) Two options below:
Skewer w/ hot wax-- Cut the skewer in half with a craft knife and dip the end of one half in hot wax from a lit candle. Let it dry and then lightly touch your sequins, beads, etc. to pick them up. I found this technique leaves wax behind on rounded surfaces when you have to push to get it to pick it up. Pearls were especially tricky with this tool. It might work better if I had let the wax dry longer.
Skewer with Glue Dots (homemade) --Use Aleene's Tack it Over and Over on old Glue Dot backing paper and let it dry. Link to Aleene's Tack it Over and Over tinyurl.com/y3hphyxz You'll take a couple of the dots and wrap them around the end of the skewer and then lightly dab it on sequins, beads to pick them up. I found that this was a little tricky to remove the sequin/bead from when trying to adhere them to paper. Maybe once it has been used a few times it will let go easier...
Wax Pencil Pick Up Tool link: tinyurl.com/y63zdng2 30 cents. You need to sharpen this when you get it, so I carved mine to get a wide tip. Maybe I should have used my regular pencil sharpener, but I found it didn't hold things as well as the other tools and it doesn't like picking up rounded things like a pearl or a mini bead easily.
Dotting Wax Pen Rhinestone Holder link: tinyurl.com/yy6at8de It was 59 cents when I bought it, but shipping has raised the price to 68 cents. You need to press the end into the pink wax that come with it (after removing the plastic from one side of the wax) and then pick up beads etc with it. I really liked this tool, but wonder if the pink wax dries out... For the price, though, it's great, and it comes with a holder for sequins/beads.
Dual End Rhinestone Picker link: tinyurl.com/y5g5au4b $1.79 The first one I got in the mail had an issue where the top of the rubber part came folded over, and broke off...I did get a replacement. It has a pokey tool on one end that works well to push pearls off their backing. I found this to be one of my favorites.
Rhinestone Pick up Tool $2.77 the price has gone up since I bought mine and it's now $3.41 link: tinyurl.com/yy2ztxhe
It comes in a nice plastic case and one end you can press in wax to pick up small things or use it as a pokey tool. It didn't work as well as the other tools, as the rubber part seemed to be too hard and too big, and didn't pick up things easily.
Pick up Tool from Ecstasy Crafts--www.ecstasycrafts.com/PUT001 $4.20 + shipping for two of them. I really liked these tools and these were probably my favorite for ease of use and the way they felt in my hand. The only thing I wonder about is that the rubber is kind of sticky, and if you leave it out, I wonder if dog hairs, glitter, etc. will attach to the rubber..I probably will store these in a plastic bag.
Silhouette QuickStik link: tinyurl.com/yynyvcdw It was $6.49 when I bought it, but is now $7.49 full price at Joanns. It might be a little bit different since it's also now not made by WRMK. I liked this tool because the rubber is covered, plus it has the plastic end that converts from a flat plastic piece to a pokey tool.
My favorites:
Dotting Wax Pen 59 cents
Dual End Rhinestone Picker $1.79
Pick up Tool from Ecstasy Crafts $4.20 for 2 plus shipping
Quick Stik from Silhouette $7.49
All in all, it comes down to a matter of preference, and I hope I gave you enough options to find one that will work well for you.

The dotting wax kit is made for diamond paintings (I'd been now told by viewers), but it was promoted for putting gems on fingernails, and I liked the tray too....And you can't beat the price. One of my viewers said the piece of wax lasts a really long time...Glad to help and hope you found one you think you'll enjoy using....Sandy

So glad you liked it. Honestly, if you've ever done a diamond painting, the free tools you get with those are the best to pick up small items. Thanks Sandy! I have been wondering about the effectiveness of the nail art tools from AliExpress since I order from them quite a bit too. I do have the quick stick and I've discovered that if I hold the poke tool part in one hand and the pickup tool in the other I can use the poke tool to help place my item exactly where I want it. My go to pick up tool though is a sandwich pick, like an oversized toothpick, and some blue poster putty on the sharp end. the secret to all of them seems to be a light touch or they won't release, and a heavy touch will also leave a residue on the item you're picking up. Happy crafting! I'm glad you found the tools that work best and feel comfortable in your hands. There's nothing like the frustration of dealing with small items. I have recently taken to using nail embellishments on my cards since they don't overwhelm the A2 size card and they don't create a problem in the mail because they don't create huge bumps. A pick up tool is absolutely necessary because they are tiny.

Such a great comparison video Sandy! I really love when you do these videos. On the one that came in the case with the open end...The open end is meant to be used to move/set your stones once you place them. I have used nearly all of the ones you reviewed. My Quick stick is still my favorite. You can get refills for that from Stampin up. Tip: with the pick up stick if you screw the sticky end in just a tiny bit tighter it pushes the sticky stuff out of the tip so you don't have to actually take it apart to get more out. was really impressed with the results you got from the pink dual end rhinestone picker. The double ended pick up tool that you liked so much really needs a container of some sort. it takes very little dust to render them useless.
@craftingforalmosteveryone
@craftingforalmosteveryone 5 лет назад
Thanks for all of your input...I was thinking of putting the dual end picker in a plastic baggie to keep it from getting lint etc on it. I was also thinking you should be able to wash it with soap to get the debris off of it...what do you think?
@parmacrafter
@parmacrafter 5 лет назад
@@craftingforalmosteveryone I have washed mine a few times. It does help. I tend to go to my quick stick the msot because it has a cap so it never gets dusty. I always seem to be in a hurry and don't want to have to stop to wash things first.

Hi Sandy! I really appreciated this video comparison so much! I have the former WRMK pick me up tool. I bought it with 50% off coupon for like $4.00 4-5 years ago and I really like it. I have since lost the little cap that goes over the green sticky and it still works great for me. I have watched some crafters use the Crystal Katana tool and I’ve thought of trying it but, I just can’t get around the price tag between $22 - $29 depending on where you purchase. I have looked on aliexpress and found the picker with the clear center like the Crystal Katana, but still haven’t purchased it. I have thought of trying a diamond painting with the beads in the the bead tray like the .59 cent picker. Which Amazon sells three with a bunch of other tools for diamond painting by Infeling 20 pieces diamond painting tools. I don’t know how to copy the page info to put here on my I pad, but none the less, it is similar to your demo set. If I do purchase one of the diamond painting kits I will also purchase the 20 pc set to use with it and let you know. Great informative demonstration video!! Hope you have a great week, Sandy. I don’t know why but this video didn’t show up in my que, but I went to your site to see if you had any other videos and found you! Thanks for everything! ~ Katz
@craftingforalmosteveryone
@craftingforalmosteveryone 5 лет назад
I have played with the Crystal Katana at a stamp show last year and I think you'll be disappointed if you spend the money for it, as it works the same as the rest of the four that I liked. I have to say I'd rather spend $30 on something more fun than a jewel picker...just my input.....I was asked if I wanted a company to send me one of those diamond paintings, and I told them if they came up with one that's really small, I'd do it, but there's no way I have the patience to create anything as big as they ones they offered me. It was sweet of them to offer, but I'm not their girl...Hope you do make one, as they're really pretty, but so many hours of work...I'd love to see it...Sandy
@johnrichard2385
@johnrichard2385 5 лет назад
Yeah! $30.00 is better spent on something fun, I agree! If I do one of those diamond paintings it would have to be a small one for me too! I would like to do something that wouldn’t take a long time, because I get frustrated, don’t finish then money down the drain. If they do send you a small one please do a video! I would love to see if they are hard to do. My hands, wrists, arms and shoulders can cramp up on me if it’s too tedious. Thanks for your input.~ K

Thanks for doing this. Now for the next question: how “refresh-able “ are they once they start picking up dust, glitter, etc? I think I heard that you can use a bit of poster putty to make your own, but I don’t remember where. I just made one with floral clay, just because I found it while unpacking and sorting, but I haven’t gotten to try it yet. Maybe I will go make a card...or fold laundry 🧐!
@craftingforalmosteveryone
@craftingforalmosteveryone 5 лет назад
Loved your options....laundry can wait...if you have a card inspiration, better to do it while it's fresh in your mind....my two cents. I wondered about them getting debris on them and most of them aren't really sticky, so I don't think it would be a problem..the only one that I think will be an issue is the one from Ecstasy crafts, as I mentioned I think things will stick to it...but I will either keep it in a baggie or see if one of them can get debris on it and wash it with maybe Lava soap? Just my thought on it...Since I have two, I can experiment with one...Glad you liked it...Sandy

What is the difference between a bead and a rhinestone??
@craftingforalmosteveryone
@craftingforalmosteveryone 3 месяца назад
My terminology is that a bead is usually round in shape with a hole through it like this tinyurl.com/yb4vwdz8 and a rhinestone can be in almost any shape and sometimes has a hole through it and sometimes doesn't like this tinyurl.com/nhevwxxx. I might be completely confusing you, but when I typed into google bead, that's one of the photos that came up and when I typed in rhinestone, the other image came up. Hope that helped..I'm always open to questions, so please ask. Sandy

The nail art people who sell those dual-ended tools say the wax ends are for picking up the rhinestones and the other end is for pressing them into place. You don't wax that end. (Although you CAN add wax to that end and use it for picking up, too.)

I have probably 10 boats and pink pens and wax I can send you some if you like..
