odeepaanh dude, this morning I didn't even know who B&W were. But I needed some new headphones (my £45 in-ears recently broke), checked some reviews, and have a pair of wireless P7s coming this Friday. You don't have to be an audiophile to get a decent pair of headphones. Sure, there's a market for Beats, but it's called morons who fall for hype...
Nice comparison, but you forgot to mention that the Sonys can be used with a 3.5mm cable if they run out of battery (which btw lasts 20 hours), and that the Sonys actually work as a bluetooth hands-free for your phone. They have a microphone, and you can answer an incoming call by pressing the play/pause button and then just have a conversation with someone without taking your phone out of your pocket. Anyways, the XB 950BT are a great piece of hardware and pretty good value for your money.
beats are more as an advertisement because people see famous people wearing them or even friends and then they want to buy them and they don't care about the audio quality ugh I hate those people it just pisses me off yea Sony are way better.
+KnightScoper Spot on. No wonder apple bought beats cuz both are just a trend and dumbass people will shell out cash they don't have to be accepted by society.
ok the audio isnt crappy agreed with everything till you said that everyone knows beats have good sound but other headphones are better but it atill has really good bass and mod tremble etc i have the solo 2s which are also good but im buying these sonys now i hope thier reliable i got the headphones in ear crom sony md something and they sounded better then my beats but stopped working first left ear then right ear and now these sonys have a break problem they breaks easy which is surprising for soby jist look at amazon reviews so beats have better build definatley sony better sound but not build
Kenneth Wright idk man ima buy these and def get warranty but the other sonys i got for 25 were 50 originally thank god i got them for 25 cuz they lasted six months....... and sonys supposed to be a great reputable company
Just bought the sony mdr-xb950bt. Dont regret it at all. Best choice ive ever made. Really recommend them!!! The sound quality is amazing and so is the bass. The bass boost sounds a bit muffled but without it sounds alot better
Love how in the beginning at 0:40 he says he is confident they wont slip off and starts rocking his head, and then you can see and hear the beats sliding off of his head xD
And honestly, they are over the ear headphones...they aren't going to ever not fall off. That's unrealistic... The point is that with 1 or 2 jerky moves.... You shouldn't expect them to go flying off... But I guess I should manipulate how I reviewed ONLY to support my point and give the audience less than the truth.. SMH... This is truly what's wrong with RU-vid expectations. Want the truth but don't want the truth
Got the sony';s couple days ago. I like them so far, got to say they would be perfect with noise cancellation implemented. But when using bluetooth with my phone in my pocket my music starts breaking up, is that normal ?
To Mr PRACTECAL... There is something very important you didn't tell us about the sony's headphones.. you didn't tell us about the adjustability of sound modes of sony.. why? sony has 3 different sound modes: high standard and low... In order to adjust the high sound quality first ,you have to turn the headphones off, then hold the( +) sign of the volume button and hold it while you turn on the headphones and the blue light is gonna appear 3 times.. THIS FOR THE BEST SOUND QUALITY. For the standard mode ; Turn off the headphones, then hold the (- )sign of the volume button while you turn on the headphones and the blue light is gonna appear TWICE .. For the low mode: turn off your headphones, hold the (-) sign on the volume button when the headphones is in the standard mode, hold it then turn on your headphones and the blue light is going to appear ONE TIME.. For this one you have the low sound quality but with the best Bluetooth connectivity..
What he says is agreeable to me. I just demo'd both of these headphones in Best Buy, and it's surprising because, generally the beats are criticized for having overwhelming bass, but compared to these Sony's the they actually will sound a bit brighter with less bass. The bass on the 950's is MUCH thicker and fuller, it's a much funner headset to listen to for me. That said, a lot of you who may not like a bass heavy sound may not care so much for the sony's, but the truth is you won't care for the Beats either. The small mid and high difference from the Beats to the Sony's in correlation with the HUGE bass difference between the Beats and sony's is almost inexcusable on the Beat's part, it's not worth it. Not only that, but the highs are not properly done on the beats as they are HARSH and cringing at loud volumes. That said, yes the Beats are still CLEARER and crisper than these Sony's but harsh, while the Sony's actually have a well balanced sound spectrum FOR A BASS HEAVY headphone. In other words, if you have the impression that the Sony's are a flatter sound where bass in more equal to the mids and highs, you won't say they have a good sound spectrum throughout all the frequencies because they are understood and accepted to be a BASS heavy headphone, and for that expectation they are a VERY fun bassy listen, sounds like the club where the woofer is just a tad too loud for the speakers.. All in all, you want a bass heavy set of cans that just ROCK the bass and don't care about a little quieter mids and highs, go xb950bt, if you want significantly less bass but clearer mids and highs, STILL don't go Beats LOL, for this, Vmoda M100's fit the description perfectly.
same BEATS are shit headphones . bought mine and i slightly over bent it... because i was in the gym and power was on max so yeah.. i bent it like he did to the sony ,,,and cracked bye bye.. :(
gabreup the studios dont 😂😂 ive had my studio wireless for over a year not a damn scratch on em fuck u mean fall apart easy i mean the only ones that break easy is like the very first solos ya they sucked shit 😂😂
gabreup the studios dont 😂😂 ive had my studio wireless for over a year not a damn scratch on em fuck u mean fall apart easy i mean the only ones that break easy is like the very first solos ya they sucked shit 😂
I agree with that 110% I broke a new set of beats by just removing them from my neck. I now have a set of JBL they're great and made so much better and so much stronger than beats.
+khmerboy09 The reality is the beats are harsh at loud volumes, in comparison to these Sony's the highs and mids on the Sony's are a TAD darker than the beats, but not harsh and the bass on the Sony's is a HUGE amount thicker and fuller than on the BEats. So there you have the trade off, from the Beats to the Sony's a SMALL high and mid trade off with a HUGE bass increase from beats to Sony's, that correlation is worth it to say the Sony's > Beats. The funny thing is, the sound of the Sony's would be even MORE what the average consumer wants, people buy beats because they care about bass far more than ANY other osund spectrum but the Sony's have a LOT more thicker and fuller bass, and they're not harsh
Got my Sony XB950BT today for $129, couldn't resist the price, because I had been eyeing them for quite a while now. I love them! They do seem a little bit clunky though. Also, nice video! You have got good potential! :D
Manny Nunez they. are. AWESOME. AWESOME. I dunno what else to say, their quality is good and they are comfy as heck. (Keep them in a cold environment to keep the pads feeling good.) Only few cons is they don't fold and that after some use your ears get hot. Not much of a problem though. Oh, and it's hard to wear them on your neck, but that doesn't matter at all. I hope you like yours! :D
I see people walk around with beats on all the time but never play anything. It's like buying a Rolex, there are better performing cheaper things out there but your paying for it because it's a piece of fashion. I use the V-Moda crossfade m-100 and they are fine but for the money I would get the sonys
I ordered mine from amazon brand new. They are awesome. I got the Bluetooth extra bass, if you do not like the wireless, it does come with a cord to plug up and use like normal headphones(not wireless). I would recommend getting these, the bass is insane
I have the Sony's, read the manual and found that you can choose sound quality to support AAC and aptX sound. Really makes a difference and I think I'll keep them.
The Sony - my choice MDR-XB500, but u cant get them anymore - expect online. For me - the Sony MDR XB950 AP/H - same as in the video but not Blue Tooth. Yep it has a cable.
Good video! I have the MDR-XB950AP and for $100 (less sometimes) sound amazing. My friends who all have beats liked my headphones better because at first I told them is cost $300. The same amount as there beats. After they all agreed they sound better, I told them the real price of the head phones and they all felt so stupid for buying there beats. xD
These headphones are in my opinion definitely the best headphones for the money... I love them and my friend loves them over the beats as well... Thanks for the support also I appreciate YOUR feedback
I've had four or five pairs of beats and was thinking about getting another pair but I just couldn't bring myself to do it because every single one (except maybe one) broke. Looks like I'm going with Sony this time around.
Sony has a significantly bigger and better soundstage. They've been around for years and more professionals use them. It may not seem true to some who vote Beats over any other company, but I much rather have Sony's any day.
Dont know if its been brought up in any comments...BUT a huge plus with the Sonys is that if internal battery runs out theyll still at least work with a wired connection. The Beats do not as mentioned in the review. i love my xb950bt's :)
bro this was a great review. i just bought the xb950's and waiting for them to get here. I'm a huge bass head so i hope I get overwhelmed with these lol
I just bought a used pair from eBay. They are supposed to be here tomorrow. I made my decision after trying them on at Best Buy. They are just comfortable compared to anything else I could find in the same price range.
ive been using mine for a couple days now and the "overwhelming bass" is the perfect amount for me. on some songs with full volume its like my ears are getting a massage its amazing
I think your wrong with the build quality of the beats, because I buy a pair of beats studio 2.0 in 2013 and today the earcups are open, the headband is broken. And I never drop them, now I recently buy the sony's and they are amazing, even the build quality hands down it destroys the beats in every way.
Evaristo Corripio only thing i can think is hes talking about build quality in terms of there feel and how well there assembled not how rugged they are
I have the Sony's. If you use the base boost, I feel it is too much base. It makes the sound a little muddy. When I travel I always use the wire because it has a broader sound spectrum than the Bluetooth connection.
+afzal patni Yes..But XB950BT would obviously have a bit higher bass...I would prefer the wireless tbh..Just can't be bothered walking around with wire...Difference: XB950AP(wired & standard bass) XB950BT(wireless & extra bass)..Well u go extra money go for wireless u dont have enough go for wireless
+afzal patni yeah xb950ap is good but the bt one has both wired and wireless, in wired mode it sounds like xb950ap and in wireless mode its the monster with extra bass, xb950bt is superior...
I have watched many RU-vid tech videos and have preferred tech channels. But today I actually saw something interesting in your videos too. I've hit the like and subscribe button. Will wait for your newer videos. Anyway thanks
There is no way in hell i find anything Beats makes aesthetically pleasing at all :D. Sony is bible for the audio world, even with this flashy, bass heavy product. Still you made a great review, and you are not Beats biased like most young people online :).
A very pragmatic, fair review! I'm a bit torn between the two because I'm gifting to someone who likes killer bass, so I'm thinking Sonys here but I agree that the Beats look better and are better balanced sound and build also looks better.... I loved when you kissed the Sony's; that made me literally laugh out loud.
+Tim Garcia The sound on the Beats was garbage, I was really hoping they would be better :/ the Sony's have fantastic and clear mids and highs, with a strong bass (and insane bass with the Bass Boost activated)
Btw I own a pair of studios 2.0 , the right hinge is broken , pure toy plastic and rubber inside , empty space with a foam strip. The Build quality is horrific , there is a funny article at Tweaktown , they cost 15 $ to make , haha I am getting some sony MDR 1As now !
King Kaka Man I love my Sony's...The First Gen Beats for me fell apart after 6 months... I believe they are super cheap but the 2nd Gen I haven't had any issues with... But I love my Sony's!
Just got the Sony's as a gift . I will use them daily in a professional environment (on air at a radio station) , so far I love them. I will let you know how they hold up !!!
I have the same Sony headphone, and it's really nice even for gaming. The bluetooth is pretty responsive, nice controls, and for me it's more good looking than the Beats. The Bass Boost enchances low freq sound so the music sounds much better and it's felt alive, not like other headphones. And the most important one: it's the most comfortable headphone to put on for me.
Great video bro!!!! Thanks for the comparison, I have been very Interested in this model of Sony and your review helps a lot. I personally think that the MDR-XB950BT are the best option,I don't like the sound of Beats (are overrated in my opinion). So, I'll buy the MDR-XB950BT headphones that are really beautiful. I subscribe to your channel.
First...Thanks! The Sony's are my favorite headphones, I had to be objective in my review so people could really make the best decision but yeah I LOVE the Sony's. Thanks again for the sub!
The Studios are on sale at Best Buy right now for 199.99. I just went to buy a pair and then I found out why they're on sale. Because they're going to be no longer sold anywhere but Apple so places are trying to sell the stock they have. The main reason I didn't get them is because I could not get the Best Buy protection on them because they're going to to no longer be sold there. I ended up getting these Sonys and they're great!!! Best Buys protection was only 30 dollars for two years and you can return them as much as you want for any reason at all. If new model is released, just take them back for an exchange.
ThoseWhoStayUofM I guess you really don't like those headphones lol. It's ok though, I work for my money and I super happy with what I chose to buy...some of my favorite headphones. Thanks!
ThoseWhoStayUofM You have no idea what you are talking about. Best Buy has the best insurance you can get for headphones. No matter what happens to them, you can return them and get a brand new pair. Even if it's just because a newer model came out and you want to swap.
ThoseWhoStayUofM I'm ignorant for wanting to ensure I can return my headphones when they break? You sound like you have something against Best Buy. Oh well, your loss. You're an ignorant moron.
Lmao, Beats have nice bass. Yes, I have both, the studios and these Sony headphones so, I'm not giving a bias answer. I just think, the Sony is better for the price.
GGScOpEZ which studios u mean they have them like 2010 ones or the ones hes holding in his hands which studios if ur talking about the old ones i would understand but the ones in his hand there good ive had mine almost 2 years not even a scratch and sound perfect the only thing bad about beats is the price i can understand that but people hate on em cuz there alot of money but take the name off there 150$ cuz they been proven some of the best quality for headphones not saying there the best but they can compete tho
Hey I found these at Best Buy for $149, amazing I have been a fan of this series for years but never actually purchased a pair .....until now so glad I did, Not to bash Beats......but just make sure thats what you want cause there are better values out there If I have to charge something, i'd rather it be a wireless feature instead of noise cancellation
BassRaptor I thought the same until I purchased the studios. They where $150 off and the sound quality is actually impressive but on some songs I wouldn't play full volume. The sound quality has came aways in the past 5 years but I may change them in for the monster elements. Monster actually helped beats get in the ear phone game and where coupled and went there separate ways and think monster walked away with a little more of the sound quality aspect.
I've been using the solo hd for my studio rec. It's a high end headphone, but I just think that they aren't worth the price(totally my opinion). The sound is okay, but I'm more into bass and mid. Beats headphone produced decent bass and mid, but it was not perfect. Picked up the sony xb950bt today, and I was totally mindblown by the sound. It is the best bass bluetooth headphone I've ever tried. I listened to some displayed Bose and Sennheiser in the shop that were in the same price range, but this bass monster beat them all. Only minor point I noticed is the design. It's unfoldable, and there's no case included. But personally, all I care about is the sound quality, and this headphone is perfect for my ears. Anyways, thanks for the review bro. I was thinking about buying the new dre beats, but ur vid really helped me decide.
Was looking for a simple review and can say I found it. Didn't watch a second told me everything to know and I went for the gold beats they are great.! Great review buddy subscribed.!!
+Practechal Reviews yeah man I was able to get them for £309 it's a lot I know but they are pretty sick and the bass is awesome. One thing that is cool is when taking calls I think it has a mic in them not 100% if they do but it seems like it. Do they.?????
One thing you didn't mention was with the cable, the sound quality is improved because of an extended range (3Hz - 48Khz vs 20Hz - 44KHz on Bluetooth). Music sounds WAY better wired. Also, if the battery dies, you can still use the headphones in wired mode.
+DK I don't use the bass boost because I find it could be too bassy on my iPhone I have the EQ set to Latin, which best emphasizes bass and treble, and when you use them wired, you WILL tell the difference with the same songs. (Bass boost doesn't work in wired).
i ordered the Sony headphones earlier today, and thought i shud look at the reviews, and everywhere i look, all the reviews are very positive, out of 5 stars all i see is 4 1/2 stars, so im very pleased i bought theez, for the price of $100 on Best Buy app.....The Beats are just to dam xpensive, 300+, i'll pass
i heard this headphones at fry's store and WOW i was amaze how deep the BASS was. i own a pair of beats headphones $300 and BELIEVE ME i regret not knowing this sony headphones. I NEED this in my life:) let me ask you how the F**** you got them for 100$? you are right on one thing. if you looking to be fancy with them go with beats but if you going for sound GO FOR SONY !
Practechal Reviews well you lucky because there back at 149$ I bought mines from dell and i just got them yesterday and i'm so BLOWN AWAY about how good BASS sounds on this headphones. so mad about my beats , paid so much and don't compare nothing like the sony when it comes to the sound
I went to fry's electronics yesterday. Tried four headphones. Bose, beats, sennheiser and Sony. Sony mdr xb950bt. I was so amazed. Other three were not in comparison at all. I don't know how other three became so famous. With no doubt, Sony is the best. Really good review man. Looking forward for more videos
As a new owner of the Sony's, I agree with your assessment 100%. I especially agree with too much bass at times and I love me some bass. On certain notes, you can feel the driver push enough air to flutter your eardrum. Its kinda cool. I got mine for $129, so the pricing was the biggest factor. The Sony's have to be the most comfortable Ive found so far.
I've never watched a 15 mins video comparing just two headphones, but i gotta say you made it watchable and enjoyable, just bought the sony from amazon at 100 (before i watched this), and i just hope the bass don't dissapoint. Thx for the review and keep it up!
Just got the Sony 950bts and they are amazing. No regrets. Hell. They are extra bass but you can listen to pretty much any genre just fine. I also use them for watching movies on my phone or my Mac. Sony knocked this one out of the park (considering its around $150-200). Great comparison man! Thanks :)
I've had the Sony's for almost two years, and I love them to death. I don't like the look as much, so I tried the Beats Studio 2.0s, and while they look much better, the audio was absolutely terrible. Also, imo the noise cancellation wasn't too effective but it was noticeable
+The_DeadGamer Yes they are, i have them and i can listen to Doomsday Mourning - Hammerhead look it up. Really brings out the double pedal base kicks out. :) Don't listen to them.
+Great Value Bleach go back to your minimum wage Walmart job, you don't know shit. Go listen to your shitty drake, migos, future, young thug puppet music.
Thank you for the time you put into this video. Money, and how you spend it, is important. You have helped many people, including myself, get a clearer and better understanding of these two popular headphones. Thank you again and have a great Holiday!!!
Good video man. I bought the MDR 950's back in October and I love them. I have used them at the gym, on the treadmill / doing pushups so I think that they are just as practical in that regard. I wish I would have been able to return and rebuy them when they dropped to $99, that's my only complaint haha. Best headphones I've ever owned!
Yeah I used them in the gym...for the most part they do stay on...only on sit ups they really became unstable which is the case for most headphones. I like the Sony's as well..they are the best headphones for the money
Practechal Life You left out some of the Sony's qualities, such as the included 3.5mm cable you can use after the battery runs out, and the ability to answer calls.
The Beats studio I have tried at Best Buy, they are very tight on my head si I cannot wear them for very long, but you can dance with them without falling off. The Sony bdrxb950bt has more cushion on the ear and are a lot more comfortable to wear for long periods. They have extra bass which is soooo good for reggae music, all other music really, I really do prefer the Sony headsets.
Beats are crap in the build area. Mine snaped after having them for 1 and a half years. I would rather metal than plastic, which is why the Sony is the best. Also you can't bend the beats like the sonys.
+Frigman Gaming Might be a little late on the response, you can buy most of the broken pieces for beats fairly cheap online. I got my headband for about $16 and took me 10 minutes to replace. But yes i do agree that they appear to be sturdier than when they really are.
