As someone who has never played (or even skated 4 months ago!) a game in my life and has never even held a stick until a week ago, it is really useful to see how it is played from a player's perspective. I gave myself a year to learn. This is made harder by being in Australia - where the coldest it gets during the day is 15°C and ice is almost impossible to come across.

I had the same issue when I was just starting checking too. It just takes a lot of practice getting used to timing hits, there isn't a cheat code you can use. I'd try to practice hitting whenever you can in practice since you can make mistakes there. I know I'm not Jeremy, but I play AAA so I like to think I know a little about hockey. Hopefully this helps
