Many years ago, a stream of World War II planes flew directly over our farm on their way to the Air Show at the Wilkes Barre/Scranton airport. It was incredible watching B17s, B25s, and various fighter planes overhead. It was like a trip back in time.

Spitfire Mark VIII, the best of the Merlin Spits according to Jeffery Quill, Supermarine's Chief Test Pilot. PR XI same airframe (extra fuel) as most Mark IX's were Mark V airframes converted to take the 60 series Merlins to get them issued to the squadrons faster. So were frankly a lash-up, where as the VIII was designed from the ground up for the 60 series.

The T-28 has a uniquely satisfying sound. The T-6 reminds me the most of the 1950-60's era passenger props that used to fly in and out of my local airport. A sound that rivals any of the old fighter props....the F7F Tigercat.

Piston engines are the best musical instruments! The video consists of clips from a few airports around Sydney Australia and one airport at Auckland New Zealand. For example, Mosquito was taken at Ardmore Airport, Auckland, New Zealand, Sea Fury & Avenger were taken at Warnervale Airport near Sydney Australia, and Neptune was taken at Shellharbour Airport in NSW Australia.

Wild how the Sea Furys Propellers didnt even look like they moving almost as if were jet powered i would think in the war years 1939-1945 the sound of Hundreds of these small planes much less Bombers would be frightening especially at night. Just my thoughts. Love the Merlin and bombers sounds. The Averager sounded like an African river boat when rolled by before take off. LOL. The beptune taxing sounded like a 1975 Ford Ranch Station Wagon.

Merlins sound nice, but IMHO, there's nothing as visceral as the sound of a big radial engine.. The chest thumping rumble is unique to this type engine..

Note: All of the horse power figures for WW 2 fighter engines are given using the Aviation fuel from the USA and was 130 Octane fuel. Until these engines used 130 octane fuel the horse power was much less. All of the 130 octane fuel was from the USA and not produced in England. That is what gave the RR Merlin's there power.

The fuel was rated 100/130 depending on mixture.
@MonkPetite
@MonkPetite 22 дня назад
This is incomplete information. They started out preferably with about 130 octane. But not everywhere that fuel was available. Later in the war 130 was standard for us mill and so the British got it too. But as the British being the brain for most ideas they got it up the 150 plus. That’s was nasty stuff but gave many planes a additional boost even with out water injection. The us got the drift and tried it to be faster on Germans flying bomb patrols. Obviously that didn’t help much as the British Turned on the jets

I just want to know how you keep the camera panning exactly on the aircraft, centered in the sceen. Is this post processing or live in camera? And what kind of camera are you using? Thanks..
@DrBearAviation
@DrBearAviation 17 дней назад
Thanks mate for watching. I did post processing using Davinci Resolve software. The camera I use is a Sony Rx10.
@philatwood2086
@philatwood2086 17 дней назад
@@DrBearAviation Yes.. SONY simply makes great cameras. I have an older a-37 and really like it. I used to go to the local airshows in SoCal, but the skies were usually overcast, so I couldn't get that nice Blue Sky contrast to easily follow the aircraft, especially with any kind of telephoto. So, what I did was get a "red-dot gun sight" and mount it to the Hot Shoe by way of a Picatinny Rail. Since these older SONYs had the "reverse" Hot Shoe, it required a "gender bender" adapter. It makes it a bit taller, but doesn't add much weight or change the balance. They fixed this "not backward compatible" issue on later models. Anyway, it makes following moving aircraft, or any moving object for that matter, much easier. These sights are relatively inexpensive. It might be worth a try if you're interested. Why did the ac have the white arrow on the right wing?
@DrBearAviation
@DrBearAviation 16 дней назад
I would presume that you refer to TBM Avenger. If fact, it also has a white arrow underneath the left wing after wing extension. You could clearly see this at 10:14. In comparison, the right wing has the arrow on the upper surface after wing extension. My conjecture is that the white arrow reminds ground staff of wing section movement direction during extension.
