Thanks for posting. I’m an 80 year old amateur guitarist, currently working on solo arranging and playing my favorite jazz and pop and light classical stuff. I’m always looking for ways to get the rhythm and harmony interesting. Thanks for posting.

This was really helpful, you break down concepts into easy to dissect parts. Just starting to play out so comping to others is still new, and this feels like a perfect start. Thanks Peter!

This is both on topic and off topic at the same time because the question is so broad. How well does the John Mehegan approach to jazz piano (see his book series) stand up to the current approach to jazz?

Great stuff. What really moves me is your time feel--you really pop! And you really know how to teach. Have you ever heard about Jeb Patton? He wrote some really interesting books on comping called "An Approach to Comping". He transcribed the comping of Bill Evans, Bud Powell, Hank Jones--just to name a few--on famous records. Good stuff!

@@jonathanflores2302 I took a handful on lessons with him right before I moved to the West Coast. Jeb actually introduced me to my mentor. Great guy, he even brought his wife into a lesson so we could practice accompanying a vocalist. He did all that and I don't even play piano, I'm a guitarist :)

The beginning song..what's it called? I am naturally rhythmic, but the sheet music..jazz mainly. eg. Donna Lee seems to the have the chords at random places. Almost as if it was done by feel. Great Video. Subscribed.

uUpdate.on Donna Lee.. Realized awhile back that Ab diatonic 7 chords combined with the circle of fifths.. I recently did used a Donna Lee IRealPro backing track playing about 20 measures of Donna Lee..I slowed it to 90 BPM. Also I comped over it mainly sevenths loosely based on the tune. It's not up yet. I ll make sure to follow you guys.
