Great voicing for dominant 13 with flat 9 except I think it sounds a lot better with the root and 7th shell in the left hand rather than just the root. If you are trying to find great dominant chord voicings one method is to combine a root and 7th in your left hand with a triad in your right hand - go through all the combinations and take note of which ones work.
This is amazing, I play piano for my church and literally just played a song that has a cadential 6-4!! It's called, "Wonderful Grace of Jesus" by Haldor Lillenas, made in 1918. It has a sequence where it goes " C | C7 | F | F#°7 | C/G | Ab7 | C/G | G7 | C" and the song ends with, "C | C7 | F | F#°7 | C/G | C/Bb | F/A | Fm6/Ab | C/G | G7 | C" one of my favorite songs to play, and now I know why it's so good!! Thank you!
I'm curious to know what that would sound like if you half timed the drums but kept all other instruments, specially the bass at the same pace. It'd be like a bossa nova with a real uppidy bass I guess?
All notes can go with all chords, all chords can go with any other chord, but a coherent structure underpinning it is what takes it from directionless babbling to compelling music with intentionality - and the structures that most people in the anglosphere are most familiar with are the ones you pick up in jazz and classical theory like this video so perfectly demonstrates!
This helped my playing tremendously i immediately understood minor third down walk up chromatically plus I grew up in church and had heard this all my life. Obvious, now it’s in my arsenal and my ears (thx you 🙏🏽)
