Friendly heads up folks that the Klymit Insulated Static V was recently ASTM tested (this is a newer standard that some companies have agreed to use to ensure consistency in how R-Value is determined) and it received a 1.9, not the stated 4.4. That being said, I've used this pad into the low 30s and been comfortable and still think it is the best affordable 3 season sleeping pad.

I hiked the AT in 2005 using a Granite Gear Vapor Trail pack. Most comfortable pack I have ever had. Had a problem with a tear on one of the straps. Granite Gear sent me a new upgraded pack on trail with postage to send the old pack back. Fantastic customer support.

@@chaseadventures Forgot to tell you what a great list of gear you listed. I am seriously considering the decathlon puffy. Never heard of them.

Great Video! I've got the Klymit Static V and Kelty Cosmic Down. Been using them for years and can't recommend them enough. Both are very comfortable and pack light. Great value callouts!

All great points and considerations for a budget loadout! One small point in your video at 4:16 whatever sound clip was used to tell me to subscribe made me jump in my chair.....hahaha, wasn't expecting that. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the feedback Kyle! I'll tone down the sound effects for the next one 🙃

I used a Klymit pad for 3 years, it helped me get back into backpacking, but I didn't find it comfortable at all. Paria RECharge XL sleeping pad's only downside is its weight (26 oz)...other than that, hands down better than Klymit any day. Same width, longer, and warmer. Took it down to mid 20's and was warm. Have 2 of their quilts as well, and their Customer Service is excellent. They have great sleeping bags also. I have 2-20 degree Kelty bags and don't trust them below the mid-high 30's. Invest in your sleep!

Thank you for sharing! Paria makes great gear for sure (love their Bryce tent that was my pick in this gear list). I haven't had a chance to give their pad or bags a go but I'll try to make that happen. Agreed, invest in your sleep people!

@@chaseadventures it's the only thing I disagree with you on in this list! Good job! Definitely check Paria's other products out. I have the Bryce 1P and apart from it being a front entry tent it is a solid option!

Marmot ultra elite 20 degree bag. Synthetic fill, but weighs right at 2 lbs, on sale right now for around $150, comes with a compression sack so packs down real small. I slept in it when it was around 25 Degrees and was cold but I had the non insulated Klymit pad. I also prefer the "ultralite" Nalgene to a smart water bottle, it's only a couple ounces heavier, but is much more durable and will probably last the rest of my life. You can get them for around $8 (I Liter) and sometimes REI has them on sale, buy one get on free. You can also get a small mouth version as well. Nice job, your whole set-up is the same price as a zpacks duplex tent!

klymit insulated V sleeping pad tested ( ASTM) R value is only 1.9 ( even stated on the webpage R-Value 4.4 /ASTM 1.9 ), so If you dont mention such important fact it makes me question the rests of your suggestions. It is comfortable, but definitely not comparable to another sleeping pad with similar tested R value. Similarly kelty sleeping bag comfort tempreture is also not stated according to tested methodology ( at least its true for my 3 years old model)

Thanks for the comment Neko, it's a good point. ASTM recently went back and tested this bag and rated it at 1.9. I've made a pinned comment to the video calling that out just to make sure people are aware. I would still say that this pad is the best affordable 3 season pad and have slept on it down to the mid 30s and been happy with it. Thank you for the feedback!

Which 2 person tent would you recommend? Looking for something light and budget friendly to go hiking with my kids.
@chaseadventures
@chaseadventures Год назад
Hi Christian! The best affordable 2 person tents in my opinion are the Paria Bryce 2P ($165 - www.pariaoutdoorproducts.com/products/backpacking-tent-bryce?variant=23441800391) and the Lanshan 2 ($139 - amzn.to/3WoycW6). The Paria Bryce doesn't require trekking poles but the Lanshan 2 does. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Nice and helpful video! What do you think about the katadyn befree as an alternative to the sawyer squeeze?
@chaseadventures
@chaseadventures Год назад
Thank you! I think it's a great option, in some ways it's better than the sawyer squeeze because you can just scoop up water with the wide mouth of the befree and the bottle it comes with is really compact when you fold it. The only minor downside to the befree is it's a little less durable and it costs a little more. With this list I was really going for high quality stuff that's really affordable but if ppl can swing it, I think an upgrade or two like the befree could make a lot of sense.
@p4ul.f708
@p4ul.f708 Год назад
@@chaseadventures Thanks for the reply :) I went with the Befree. I chose the 0,6liter version which cost me only 35€, which is a fair price imo. For a sleeping pad I chose the Paria Outdoor Recharge UL and for the sleeping bag/quilt Im not yet 100% sure, any chance, that you already tested or know someone who tested the Thermarest Corus 20F quilt? It looks like a really good product and is the only one in its price range with such a low weight, while also being very well insulated.
@chaseadventures
@chaseadventures Год назад
@@p4ul.f708 exciting! Sounds like your gear list coming along that's awesome 👍. Love the BeFree and that Paria pad is a great deal. Come back and let us know how it is when you try it out. Honestly I haven't used that quilt so I'm not too sure. I do know that a lot of people swear by Enlightened Equipment quilts and they're basically in the same price range and weigh about the same. Not sure where you are so not sure about shipping costs but they're worth a look

Do you use this gear or is it just a recommendation, as want information on gear that people actually use . Anyone can pick a load of gear out , that's all . I have seen same videos recommending same gear of other RU-vidrs but don't actually use the stuff there recommending . 😅

The only thing I haven't used personally is the tent I shared but I have some friends who have used it and say good things. Otherwise I can personally vouch for every item on this list.

Granite Gear Blaze 60 > Granite Gear Crown 2
@chaseadventures
@chaseadventures Год назад
Yeah I agree with you that it's a better pack overall. It costs $300 while the Crown 2 is only $120 so that's why I picked it for the list. BUT if you have the money the Blaze is a really great pack :-)
