Excellent video. Explanations step by step and easy to follow. Thank's for sharing your knowledge with us. Can't wait to watch your next video. Nice winch by the way.
Really like how you planned out the safety and wiring system. Because I'm a novice in wiring I needed a little more showing the hands on of what you did. I did download your video for my reference, Thanks.
Thanks for the video, i can see you put a lot of thought into your system. I hope it's ok to make a suggestion, give the cig lighter socket, volt meter and usb port individual positive and negative back to fuse box. Cig socket can supply 10a plus whatever the usb adaptor is, all those joins along the negative run will give you voltage drop and a chance of failure along the way. You might find that the meter reading drops when those sockets are used as the circuit is shared
Great vid mate. Interesting seeing a self proclaimed non expert doing proper wiring lol I wouldn’t have the foggiest 🤦🏻♂️😂 gonna be a great feeling of pride when it’s done 👏🏻
Thanks for the series of videos and info. This has been great for me being a total novice at doing a boat up and I am looking at the Warrior 165 as a potential boat. I have always looked at getting a newer boat but you have opened up the potential to me of a good condition older boat. Looking forward to you getting out on the boat and seeing what you think of its ability, as all I have seen is these boat flying in clam seas but I am more interested on how it performs in choppy seas. Absolute brill and many thanks again and good luck with the rest of the project. Cheers Bob
Thanks Bob I am also a total novice but wanted to share my journey getting the boat ready! A little apprehensive about going out on her (never before done) but I’ll be with people who have 😬
Great video! This will come in handy when I wire up my Whaler. I put my diagram down on paper and wasnt sure if it would work but your setup is super close to mines so it gave me more confidence in my setup so thanks!!!
Is she going to be ship shape and Bristol fashion by the Summer? The ideal time to hook a Great White, I still think " you're gonna need a bigger boat " 🦈 😂 Big up the Fire Service, you guys are doing an excellent job!!!
Hi, I have a Warrior 170 with rubbish wiring and blade fuse holders all over the place which I struggle to trace what they are connected too. I have watched this video countless times but can not get the confidence to rip everything out and start again. I will keep watching until I do but many thanks for sharing this and if you have helpful tips or updates to this video please let me know. Cheer and hope all going well.
Also i thought you might like to know im probably your'e furthest fan as i live all the way in the middle east in the country of jordan, i might be you're only muslim fan aswell, whenever you post a new video i make it my mission to watch it with my dad, we make it like (islander outdoors movie night that we have to watch), im one of you're subscribers and i give you full support because you're one of my favourite youtubers, and i love what you do, also you have very similar taste to my dad who's around the same age even to the point that motorbike you said you want to buy on you're motorbike wildcamp is the exact same my dad want's to buy ⛺
Seriously, you and a couple other youtubers seem so cool to just and chat and hang out with, did you study a certain thing in university? because i'd love in life to study a subject and get a degree and then do stuff in my free time as a passion like you, and what some other youtubers also do in many diffrent topics 😎😊
It's amazing how social media and youtube in particular can bring people (like me and my dad enjoying your videos) from so far away i'd love to come to the isle of man someday and meet you, actually i live in jordan but my dad is british so i have a passport so i could visit you and a couple other youtubers i'd like to meet in the uk💚💐💪
Yeah actually there is quite alot, especially if you go to the wadi rum dessert(thats were they filmed the martian with matt damon) and also in mountains like the wadi mujib mountains🗻
Mat, I have a question. You stated that you had put a 50 amp breaker because your wiring system is for 55 amps. How did you determine this (the 55 amps)? Maybe by adding up the amperage usage for each item on the system? Thanks, Kevin
Hi Mat - Great vid on wiring! I’m rewiring our 30 yr old sailing boat with LEDs, chartplotter, updated audio etc and I found the underlying logic and planning of your wiring and the clarity of your explanations very refreshing and helpful. Thanks!
Super helpful video. You motivated me to tackle my own wiring redo, despite being a newbie. Question for you - did you also run 8 gauge for the negative cable from the top of the fuse panel back to the battery? Also, I’ve found it really hard to find the right ring terminals for 8 gauge cable for some reason
When you put your second battery in did you have the circuit breaker on just the house battery , your videos are brilliant giving me lots of confidence to start on my own boat , cheers
Great video. I am copying all of it to wire my Orkney. Can you tell me what fuse is in each slot please. I can't tell if orange is red or red orange or yellow is orange etc. 😀
Hi Mat, I’m really enjoying your videos. Just watching the one on the wiring up. Where can I find the links to the items you bought like the fusebox, isolator switch etc?
Great video pal. How would you connect up two leisure batteries and a starter battery? Can’t find any videos that do that. And also how you would charge them off outboard?
@@AirbornePirates thanks for the quick reply. I’m going to follow suit and do my own… been let down twice by Marine techieS… lol. Yes I’ve seen a few that do dual but I would like to have a starter battery just for the outboard then two leisure batteries for onboard stuff etc. i don’t think you can charge 3 from an outboard though TBF?
Used the same switch panel and have found it to be very poor quality...basically it lasted two trips out (saltwater) in my Rib before failing due to corrosion. How are you finding yours? You have more protection, I guess.
Hello, I don't understand anything about electricity. I recently purchased a boat and it has a switch panel installed like the one you show in the video. I have to add a few things like the sonar, horn and a light. My question is the following: To connect any device to this switch panel, I don't know where I should connect the negative cables since I only see positive cable connections. Thank you so much
i've been a marine electrician for 25 years, there's a reason why marine wiring was standardized all those years ago. All your wires are the same color. Somebody down the road is going to be so pissed off
@@AirbornePirates yeah, that'll work out really nice for a few years and then all the labels fall off or the ink bleaches out and even then, what could possibly be written on the wire that would help somebody? . then a 2 minute repair can easily escalate to all afternoon and then some poor guy makes nothing that day. We call owner repairs like that 'day waisters' Obviously, we refuse to work on those and then the name, hull number, vin number and boat description goes on our database so that none of our shops or venders get stuck working on it. Absolute nightmare, you don't understand
Great vid. One question. Is the battery isolator switch necessary when you have the breaker? Does manually popping the breaker act as a cut-off as well?
ok mate great video by the way I'm wiring my boat the same way well I copied what you have done but here is my problem the fuse box dont know how to word it or say it ok here goes on the pic you have shown how you have wired it the red wire coming from the fuse box going to the switchboard but I want to know what size is the connector ring on the end of the wire fitted to the fuse box under the screw thx jay and iv subscribed to your channel and watched all your videos and a thumbs up and one more thing love your warrior iv got a 14ft cjr
Great great video! Thank you so much. I'm getting ready to rewire my center console boat for the first time. I feel very comfortable with electrical The only question I have is on my old control panel there is breaker switches do I have to put those back in or can I just run them to the fuse block and write to hey toggle switch? Thank you again amazing video keep up the good work!
@@AirbornePirates The breaker is between the switch and the fuses. I don't know why I thought the fuse is would have been sufficient. Don't know why they did it this way I'd like to do it without them to make it look cleaner. What do you think?
I now have a Warrior 170 and wanted to add a voltmeter to both the batteries. Do you think I can just wire them directly to each battery using 12AWG wire and a 5amp in-line fuse or is there a better / safer way to wire these ? Appreciate any help as I do not want to cause a fire. Cheers.
@@AirbornePirates Many thanks for your reply. I have just been looking at the voltmeter and it has come with wire which looks like 16 awg size. Is this done to a cost and would be better replaced with 12 awg wire or do you think I can use 16 awg wire over a 1.5 m distance (I can not see how many amp's these draw) ?
by the by, you are the FIRST PERSON to point out that these switch units need a RE-DESIGN!!!! ...how does a 1mm cable give 45 amperes in case of SODS law?
Always surprised by the quality of the marine low voltage equipment. Salty water will kill most of it within a couple of years. Its time the industry makes something better
Where can we get a fuse panel like the OLD ONE??? ...I have all the NEW ones, - but friends of mine back in 1990 at CRETE had that one, - I fitted it for them!!! ...oh, and I invented the LED + resistor across the fuse using that OLD type fuse board.......
This is literally the best video I've seen explaining in detail on how to properly wire. I'm glad you took your time to show in pictures as well as explain where everything goes. Thank you.
Well explained, thank you. But i just discovered what AWG is, what a b..shit name and so counter intuitive. Question; is the breaker necessary if you have the fuses?
All makes sense but .. if you can easily get to switch panel (fused as bought) is there really any need to add another fuse box? If the pre done switches is enough and easily accessible would it really matter if didn’t then change it and add a fuse box as well ? Thanks
I was wondering what if im using 2 switch panels. Should i use a separate fuse box ? I hope i can connect both to the same battery which are in parcel.
Had a small fire on my boat (prev owner used automotive wires and automotive connectors !!) So gonna have to assess the damage in the Spring and re-wire. Luckily i too have some experience w 12v and added 2 of those exact same solar panels like you did (i love having them).... Thanks for the helpful video.
As long as you have a fuse rated 50% of the wire things draw from you're sorted. 99% of boats are written off due to fire, not many boats actually sink....but at least they self extinguish 🤣
