It’s better to just wait for all the DLCs to go on deep discount instead of buying a goofy ass subscription that will eventually cost more than just buying them, especially when they’re on sale. I got them all for like $70USD
@@hammotimee But at the end of that two years when you stop giving them money you have absolutely nothing. HOI4 is the type of game that you may put down for months but you will pick it up again later, owning the DLC means you always have that content available at no further cost.
@@billwiley7216 So what? I personally play games in phases, like I play a game a lot for a few months then I dont touch it at all for a few months. A subscription like this (which I can cancel when Im not playing the game) is literally perfect. And its not like Im losing anything when I dont have the DLCs. Hoi4 isnt like City's Skylines where you play the same save for months, you start a save, play it for a few days and then you're done with it. It literally doesnt matter at all whether you own the DLC's or not, which makes the Subscription, even with sales incredibly cheap and worth not owning the DLCs
unpopular opinion: I don't like any designer so every dlc does not include a design system gains +1 for me. Also wish they would just separate designers and focus trees. I want focus tree part not the designer part
Interesting! What is it you all don't like about the designers? And with the auto design option they they on there, do you use that at all, or do you find the designs aren't good enough?
Definitely no step back deserved that s tier. By blood alone would probably be more c tier. I was really only excited for the new focuses of the dlc. Sabaton packs are great and I get why they only had the songs about ww2 but I would’ve loved if more of their songs could’ve made it.
You can give puppets land just click on that countries flag and then click the land you want to give them after making them a puppet. Note: it usually cost more Victory points per land space if you decide to give it to your puppet
Owning something vs paying for a subscription is rarely better. You don't HAVE to buy every DLC all at once. And there are deals that occur. Ultimately owning it forever vs only having access when you play isn't a good value.
I know I'm late but as a person who uses the subscription I can share my reason on why I'm basically renting it I only started hoi 4 very recently and usually I like to have "complete experiences" when it comes to dlc hell games I also do not play the game as consistent either So just having an option to rent the entire dlc library for 3 months for 15 bucks is really nice (especially since every new release is also included in the pass) Now for someone who doesn't have all dlc enabled or is only interested in certain dlcs It's not worth it Especially if your patient enough for a sale (which probably is going on since you probably bought hoi4 on a sale cause who the hell pays full price for hoi4?)
I think that the reason the reviews are bad on by blood alone is because whenever they play non historical Switzerland will just annex half of Europe with like 3 focuses
For what they add, i would say the main expansion up top as they add a lot of extra functions to the game. Afterwards would be the other country packs, as they add more originality by focus tree to a bunch of nations, even if some are quite outdated. Though maybe some of the best are higher than the worst of the main expansions. At the bottom i have any cosmetics. Yeah, more detailed tanks can be cool to look at, but usually you arent as zoomed in. And while i do like Sabaton, i can just have a personal playlist playing as well
BBA has some minor issues, but Id rate it at least an A P.S. gigachads use state transfer tool and dont care about no more player-lead peace conferences
"I've been out of school for I don't know how many years because I can't count. And I've never needed to graph a quadratic". Mebbe cause and effect here?
@@hammotimee I got all of the gameplay-affecting DLCs (except for BBA) on sale, for ~70-80 USD, compared to over a hundred. When they're that cheap, why would you NOT buy them on sale? I did get AAT at full price, but newer things tend to not go on big sales, if they even go on sale at all.
4:24 I think you can give land to new puppets in the same peace deal, they're under the "beneficiaries" tab in the top right. Unless I'm mixing something up
@@hammotimee Both are right, you can only give cored land to your puppets you make in a peace conference, but you cannot give land that is not cored to them
You the DLCs should be on the base game. Why the hell did they need to release dlc just to complete focus trees that should have been filled out in the first place??
@@Finlandball39 man the guns and no step back get the best reviews. I was gifted the former and will get the later on sale. Lots of people didn't like La resistence
Great video! I'd probably put NSB in A and TFW in S just because the game is unplayable without the subject mechanics. Also I'd put Death or Dishonor in A or S just because it adds some of the most interesting focus trees in the game.
I mean even if I theoretically know that the Subscription is worth it I just kinda dislike renting instead of owning stuff. Also NSB is the best DLC in my Opinion just because of the supply system but by Blood alone has Bella Ciao so close second.
I completely agree with you about owning vs renting, I personally don't subscribe to anything gaming related. However it's perfect for people that might not have the money to buy them outright, or want to try out the DLCs before buying them on sale
I’ve got a recommendation for a couple mods: 1. Make a country in a peace deal I really have no idea why people haven’t thought of this yet! If this became a mod, I can bet people will go crazy on this mod. How it works is that there is a new option in the peace deal screen where you can “make a country”. There will be 2 options: “make a free country”, or “make a puppet”. Then, you can select the name for that country. Finally, you can select the tiles you want that country to own. 2. Resistance overhaul I don’t get why modders can’t add this feature where there is resistance on core states! How it will work is: your stability takes a large part of the resistance, where when stability is low, resistance is mainly high, and vice versa. If it gets too high, the city will break away (using the first mod) creating its own nation, which an AI will make a name for it. That city is no longer a core of you and you can choose to free it or fight for it. When compliance gets large enough, you will have the option to core a state, however you will lose some political power points. The more compliance from around 60%, the less it costs, since violence in the streets should normally happen less. 3. Puppet mod When you get in a peace deal and make a puppet (linking to the 1st recommended mod), you can choose which rules a puppet must follow. However, the more strict your puppet should be, the more points it costs. You can choose from the following presets in the peace deal, or choose the custom button to make how autonomous your puppet will be. The rules will have an amount of points next to it to show how many victory points it costs, and at the end it will show you the amount in total. When the puppet is made, it will not have cores (mod 2 gets used, but instead of them picking if they core something, they demand you if they can.)
1: Love it, custom countries would surely be a mod already but if not, someone should do it 2: Don' love it on core states, why would a core state want to break free? 3: That;s pretty much how puppets work now with Together for Victory :)
@@hammotimee if you do some questionable things (like say black people suck as president and refuse to back down as president, why wouldn’t people start revolting? It happened in France, and the UK dominions did warn Edward that if he weren’t to back down they would leave, even though they’ve become an essential part of UK identity and the people were even given a British citizenship.
@@hammotimee also you still cannot choose how autonomous your country will be, it’s either a puppet always or an integrated puppet (reichskommissariat).
@@CatfoodChronicles6737 fair enough, but I think not a mechanic that is needed for every country, you can already have civil wars if support gets low enough for countries like Italy or France
I just realized that I am the only person that enjoys listening to the speeches when say ww2 starts , also you did battle for the Bosporus dirty my man it should be B
No no no no Allied speeches are far the most things im looking to hear when im playing the game its an S tier for me especially FDR speech of war declartion is something more like a giant awakening
10:54 "No Step Back is a solid S tier" Comrade Stalin: Da, we will lead the Glorious Soviet Union to victory!! Jokes aside, i'm new to Steam and i wanted to buy HOI4 on Steam. But, i'm not sure which one should i purchase. The base game, or the Starter Edition? I wanna purchase the Ultimate Bundle. But, damn. It's so expensive.
Blueprint stealing seems broken. I stole blueprints for tech I already researched more than once. Several times it said I stole certain tech, but no bonus for it appeared. Waste of time
The sub is actually god mode the only reason it would not be worth it is if you literally play consistently year round, at that point ye just buy them but the sub is sick.
Subscription is only worth it if you want all the DLC. From your list you can forget about half of them from the start so basically makes your initial calculation of 3 years down to 1 and half maybe 2 years before you start to lose money. B tier at best.
@@hammotimee unfortunately not, BBA unlocks the idea of forming mare nostrum, but the actual decision is included in Waking the tiger so you can’t actually get the red country color and “imperium Romanum” without Waking the tiger
Atleast this is how it was for me, when I bought BBA, I tried to form Rome, and the decision didn’t come up until I bought waking the tiger and I felt like an idiot
i dont have all this dlc but i have supply system in game (hubs and logistics), i have officer core and all that , why should i pay more? the only thing i don't have is vehicle designer and spying system
Absolutely, other games which need all the DLCs to be fully enjoyable don't offer this kind of thing, and for people who don't have the income to afford $200 bucks plus, who just want to play for a little bit then put it down again can instead do so for what? $15-30 instead? What's the issue here, apart from some kind of apathy towards subscription based services?
