I made $60,000 in my spare time selling car and motorcycle parts. I've moved abroad and don't do this anymore, so I might as well help you make money this way instead. This is a COMPLETE step-by-step guide to tell you exactly how to do it!

Have you ever heard of creating eBay listings by uploading a spreadsheet? They use to call it "eBay File Exchange" or something. One could theoretically take a part off, clean and photograph, catalog and organize, and then at the end of all that -- turn all of the info straight into eBay listings in one batch by just uploading a single file. You can add your own SKU numbers and make finding inventory a breeze. Takes a bit of work upfront but the possibilities for scale are greater.

I had not heard of that.

@@SecondLifeTravels1 It's on the seller page under Reports --> Uploads. I think eBay auto generates a spreadsheet template for you based on the categories you want, and then you just add the info and link your images. As a former software dev, spreadsheets are my sworn enemy, but this one looks pretty straight-forward and easy to use. It appears the caveat is that one needs to figure out a different way to host the images, so they can be linked in the spreadsheet and accessed by eBay, but that's an easy problem to solve. I'll try using Amazon Web Services.

@@SecondLifeTravels1 fyi in case you were interested, I've found better use of the Bulk Listing Tool eBay has (it wasn't so easy for me to discover this). Now I just take all my photos and notes for the rest of the details and then sit down somewhere relaxing and make 50+ drafts at once from my laptop. It's still a little bit tedious, but much better workflow than going through them individually. I save them all as drafts and then I'll review a draft from a mobile device before posting each one, at consistent intervals to keep the activity up for the algorithm. The spreadsheet option is better for certain bulk inventory situations I guess.

thank you , ive been kicking this around for a while , fortunately ive been a parts guy for close to 30 years , now that covid done its worst , and the drama , and such forth . Its time to rebuild . No one cares that Maybe , I decided that 3 kids and their Mom overseas in the Philippines mattered , I don't know If Ill ever see her and the kids again , as covid became the barrier , and it was way worse there , Iam not married to her so there is no compensation , I couldn't get there, and a single mom with 3 kids , is not treated well there , Iam sure there are plenty like me , that did what they could for as long as they could , amassed debits , watched their own jobs , dry up , iam 62 , well preserved , a motorcycle accident in dec , 2nd day of a new job , the tipping point 3 cracked ribs , and 6 weeks of healing , covid still had enough power that some things couldn't get done as there's not enough working , well I could go on about some things like my own mom, brother, sis n law , that well, lets just say , I Thank god every day , that I was able to help , shelter and food , Its been two years now, since I was last there, I would do it again. enough on that , Ive got things to do. So I started this business 6 weeks back , and ive managed to rebuild and paint a motel bike , and it not only runs good , it looks greet , so ive got transportation , and it feels greet, now doing research and a business plan, hopefully I can find a few like minded indeviduals, and move forward. thanks for the videos and what you share , its appreated , sincerely David G Schoenoff

hi, I like what you do, I have an important question, what type of license do you need to run your business? please give more details on how to get a license to run this type of business to meet the local requirements and recycling issues

In most places. In America, you don't need a license. You operate put of your garage.

How did you load up the bikes that didn’t start in the back of your truck?
@SecondLifeTravels1

Almost all of the motorcycles don't start! Just put then in neutral and roll them up the ramp. You can change gears without any power. Usually the owner will help push.

Whats the best way to sell engines on ebay without getting scammed? Like whats the best way to list my running/good engine to where ebay will side with me instead of the scammer. Theres a lot of scammers on ebay. To ship my engines is around $350 and if i have do a return I will be out of $700 just on shipping alone. Im pretty sure its in the way I list my engine to get ebay side with me on a dispute. Have you ever sold an engine on ebay?
@SecondLifeTravels1

I have, but mostly from engines that don't run. I never gave any guarantees - just "turns over - as is."
@505fastlife6

Does eBay require a license to do this and also how do you know what shipping is going to cost?
@SecondLifeTravels1
@SecondLifeTravels1 3 месяца назад
No license required at all. Also, you don't worry about shipping. You put the weight of the item (estimated, with box) and Ebay automatically generates a shipping cost for everyone who looks at the auction, based upon their location. In other words, shipping cost isn't your problem.

I like free shipping, but you should take that into account when setting the price.

I've been selling on eBay and other platforms for a few years, trading cards and such but finally getting into parts, and I've noticed that buyers prefer when you show it with free shipping but you do have to just add the cost to your sale price to make sure that you don't end up losing money.

1. What gives more turnover cheap or expensive motorbike? 2. What is the selling time for the parts? (I know that you never sell all parts, but I'm asking about main time to get profit)
@SecondLifeTravels1
@SecondLifeTravels1 Год назад
Can you please reword question 1? I'm not sure what you mean. For 2, I use 10-day auctions, so 10 days. Some items sell on day one, though.

@@SecondLifeTravels1 Thanks for your reply. So, is there any difference to buy bike to parting out for 500$ or 5-10k $. Higher demand on parts when motorbike more expensive, isn't it? 2) If I'm correct, you can sell parts to make profit (i mean more then bike price + expenses) in average 2 weeks - month or it takes longer?
@SecondLifeTravels1
@SecondLifeTravels1 Год назад
@@sergiysafronov5679 Yes, a month or less. Just be careful and do your research before you buy. Not all bikes can make a profit! Don't overpay! Start with a cheap, broken bike.

If your bike is japanese, like a Suzuki, for instance, you'll need JIS screwdrivers so you don't strip the screws. It's Japanese Industrial Standard...
@SecondLifeTravels1
@SecondLifeTravels1 Год назад
That's right - the screw heads look like Phillips, but they're not. That being said, there should be some sort of punishment for past engineers who decided it was a good idea to put screws instead of bolts on engines. A pox on them!

Yo thanks for going in a little deeper on how to do some real market research on the bikes and their parts for me to start thinking about buying strategies, rather than repeating the brainless "this is how you make eBay listings and put sh!t in a box" stuff that anyone can figure out. I've been on eBay for several years, it's my full-time job now and I'm planning to get into parts. I'm wary of the reputation of parts buyers though - seems like a lot more drama in the parts world.

@@SecondLifeTravels1 So do you think my hypothesis is correct - that a lot of the complaining you see online is the result of their own laziness, bad communication, or just general lack of respect? I've been selling vintage stuff for a while, including a lot of high dollar clothing when I find it. You would think that would be constant returns, miss-fit sizing, etc., but I have had almost zero issues in over 3 years. Yes I've had to dish out a refund here and there, but not frequently, and it's almost always because I made an oversight. However when I talk to someone else it's always the same story - they don't like eBay, they don't like buyers, they're not gonna do it. Fine with me, that's my business opportunity I guess.
@SecondLifeTravels1
@SecondLifeTravels1 Год назад
@@corneliusthecrowtamer1937 I have had very few returns over the years. You just have to be 1) Honest about the condition, 2) Correct details about the part, and 3) Customer service-oriented and you'll be fine. Anyway, if others don't want to do it, be glad. Less competition for you.
