This is a lot of good info. If all I wanted was to record acapella solos on to my PC, would a headphone set, a microphone, and audacity suffice? Due to being a beginner, I would be okay experimenting with a decent quality USB mic to start. What I don't understand is how would I hear myself sing with a headset on. How would you configure that in Windows 10/Audacity?
Hey BJ, yes, if you are only recording vocals, you need only a pair of headphones 🎧 for monitoring, a small interface (1 input), a microphone and Audacity or Reaper. You can go for a USB mic and skip the audio interface, that’s another option. If you want to hear your own vocals with effects like reverb or compression, you’ll need to reduce latency to the minimum. Check out my other videos about DAW optimization. Hope that helps! 🙏
Those Mac prices don't quite match with the prices here in Holland. I could only wish to grab a M3MAX at that price point, even that M2 refurbished model is not going to happen for $929.
It really depends which options you pick. It can be from maybe 1000$ to 15K+$. The most affordable option would be the Acer laptop with smallest interface and using headphones only and a free DAW. It can be much more if you get the best laptop, etc!

@@pugthethug8657 If you are only getting started and you are not recording any instruments, go conservative and get the most affordable laptop with Reaper and a pair of decent headphones like the Audio Technica or Sony. It should be a good start. You can then upgrade as your needs grow! When that happens, try to find used gear on Marketplace, it’s always the best way to save $$$.
Hey brother, thanks for the video. have you ever experienced the error message "disk not ejected properly" for external drives/ssds when you haven't unplugged the drive? For example when you wake up the Mac from sleeping and you see that message is that normal assuming nothing is defective?
Ideally, the drives we only need once in a while should be unplugged and turned off. I leave them plugged at all times just for conveniency. I haven’t had this issue that you mentioned since many years though. Are you running the latest OS? Using your drives through a hub? What about your Mac power saving settings? These may all potentially be causing the issue.
