Here's the resource for the devotional: www.shoreshdavid.org/chanukah/ The lights were from Home Depot, just really big candles. My husband got them.

What book did you use for devotionals and prayers?
@LivingWithEve
@LivingWithEve 2 года назад
A mix of things, things my congregation put out, I used Apologia’s, Not Consumed, some other stuff. I just feel if you can get to the source, that’s just better. For prayers…. Jesus, Paul, Peter, all of them show us how to do it. We don’t need anything else.

Do messianics keep kosher, we had two sinks, two washing machines, etching? I grew up Hasidic, and im so confused about Messianics? Why do you say, “people who celebrate Hanukkah…”…do you not consider yourself Jewish? Unrelated, One thing that has always bothered me as a Jewish woman, is peoole call Hanukkah, Jewish Christmas, which it’s not! It’s the least important Jewish holiday, and I found that soooo exhausting, I still do. Some of your takes on Hanukkah, are TOTALLY different from what I learned growing up. We do believe entirely in the Hanukkah miracle of the oil. But what people don’t realize isnt in that the book of Maccabees isn’t in our tanakh, just Ike book of Esther! I know the Catholic Church does include in their canon, but we do not. There are quite a few holidays that aren’t yom tov. Do Messianics observe Tisha b’Av, that isn’t in the tanakh, but is a very serious day, and a Yom Tov Edit, I hope I’m not offensive, I grew up with no access to internet, or anything like that. I still have a lot to learn about the outside world

Hi Abby! Let me see if I can answer some questions. I’m actually not Jewish, I was born into a Christian home. But those people who are ethnically Jewish do called themselves Jewish. So In reality, we are Jewish and Gentile. Now it IS VERY confusing because 1) there is a huge spectrum so you may have a very conservative congregation or a very loose congregation. All believe in the teachings of Jesus or what we say Yeshua. However, some base their salvation on works (however I would not consider them Messianic, They would be Torah Observant or something else but they like to call themselves Messianic), some find salvation in Yeshua and everything in between. Most do find salvation in Yeshua and believe in the tri-une God (Father, Son, Spirit) much like Christians. Some live very orthodox lives just like Jews. We all strive to keep Torah, some think it’s a “conviction”, some think it’s mandatory, some think it’s only for the Jews and not gentiles. So yes, it’s very confusing. But as a community we do celebrate the Feast and meet on Saturdays. Not everyone keeps Kosher, Most do, but not with the two kitchens. I, unlike some, will consider myself a Christian because I believe is Yeshua (Jesus) as Messiah and the Tri-Une God. But I unlike Christians I believe in keeping the fullness of the Torah. That Yeshua didn’t replace it, but fulfilled it. We are still required to keep it covenantaly. But not for salvation. Because we believe that Yeshua is our salvation and has always been our salvation through all of history. We also believe we are part of the Abrahamic, Mosaic and Davison Covenant as well as the New Covenant. To sum up, Christians who keep Torah. However, keeping Torah tends to look different. Hope that helps.

To answer more questions… I agree with you on Hanukkah, 100%. I don’t know much about the Catholic faith but I do think they have Maccabees. I know, as a whole the Talmud is not considered authoritative for us. But we have read some and do consider it a historical document.

Our congregation does celebrate Tisha b’Av, but not to its full extent. We really focus on the Feast Days and Purim and Hanukkah are more for fun. Hope that helps and didn’t confuse you more. Feel free to ask away.
