There was a ton of set up, people had asked me not to skip steps. So trying to take it a little slower, and go into full detail of the setup @@Untethered365

I had no idea you could force to open in App, great tip here. One remark, why not having two Sharepoint libraries for integration purpose. One with main data for the main category/template structure ("Main category" list, put main data for "Memo", 'Certificate", "Decisions", "^NameFile.docx", etc. or by clients' design - "Client A", "Client B") then use another list in which you have the 'ad hoc' data (date, reference number... and a column linking to the main cat). In Power App; user can then select first the main cat and get a prefilled form to key-in ad hoc. Not sure if you follow me :) I had no knowledge of Power App when I started my project, so I was not keen having hundreds of choices in the dropdown list. But yeah, in regards user side, the most important is to keep them away from Sharepoint and provides templates/ad hoc document through an App; the way Sharepoint handles files opening is really bad. As always, great tutorial! I can see you have done it all here (from user administration to integrated site columns with content control, nice!

I think that idea is good too. There are so many ways to do these templates as soon as I create a video, I'm ready to change my idea! Splitting between libraries could be a good idea too. And yes I follow you, totally agree again. It's so hard to stick with 1 idea and say it's the best 😆

What are the very best Word document templates for letters and memos that you can create?

If you gain anything out of this video, I think one of the most important things to do as a SharePoint Developer is to not put spaces in column names, lists or libraries. At @10:17 I explain into detail why.
@TheBigBosske
@TheBigBosske 6 месяцев назад
Yes!! One way to get the column name is to go to list Settings and select the column, then name will show in the URL. Another great important thing, make all column as basic text.... don't even bother having Dates, Numbers, etc., this will only make your life complicated.

Totally agree!@@TheBigBosske

Many thanks for this nice explanation. I would like to apply this idea to generate invoices, which consist of several line items. Do you have an idea how this could be implemented following your approach?

Hi thomas, so I have a video that uses Templates with Repeating rows, is that what you are looking for? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ke6cUWzhqXo.html

@@andrewhess123 Hi Andrew, thanks for the answer. In principal yes, but I would like to avoid the premium license. It seems the only way to do is to build in Power Apps the invoice template and to transfer it to a PDF?
@andrewhess123
@andrewhess123 5 месяцев назад
Avoiding the premium with dynamic lists seems like you should create an HTML Table and use the PDF option in Power Apps. Another option is to use Power Automate and only use 1 premium license on a schedule instead of many Power Apps premium licenses, to keep costs lower.@@thomasgoerlach5766

Hello andrew, I have been following your videos to create a workflow surrounding templates for discharge summaries. This will ease up some burden on us junior doctors. I was hoping if you could guide me for it? Will be really helpful for the entire team. Thanks.

Currently I work for the Government and my time is limited. Are these videos enough to guide you? Or are you looking for more than just these youtube videos? I could always tailor a video to your needs?

Hi Andrew, another very informative video; can you help as I can't open the document in the 'App' opens fine in the browser. Not sure if I've done something wrong or due to my laptop set up?
@andrewhess123
@andrewhess123 6 месяцев назад
Hi Paul, long time no see! Hmmm... when you create a new document can you open the template? Or if you go to Library Settings, and then the Content Type, can you Edit the template there and open in the app?
@paulburns2814

Thanks Andrew, I finally managed to get it to open in the App, my system was at fault! My own work has been very busy for the past year so, trying to learn this has had to been put on hold, whilst I make a living. Work has a habit of blocking my hobbies!@@andrewhess123

Is there a way to use a drop down list to say select Project type if there were 5 and you didn't want to type it in everytime?
@andrewhess123
@andrewhess123 2 месяца назад
Yes one option I would make a Power App that's connected to the SharePoint list or Integrate a Power App in the SharePoint list.

Is there a reason you don't use the OOTB message column? Also, does this work with other document types, PDF, etc.?
@andrewhess123
@andrewhess123 6 месяцев назад
Yeah I thought about that maybe I should of used the OOTM message column, no specific reason on that. If I were to do PDFs I would do this a different way, this method is specific for MS Word and using Quick Parts. Thanks for the question and watching kland!

Another brilliant video Andrew! Quick question, is there an easy way to change the name from Certificate.docx and memo.docx after you populate the metadata. For eg. if I want to use the Certificate template three times, will the Name column be Certificate1, Certificate2, Certificate3 etc. or is this something I need to change after I enter the metadata? Hope that all makes sense! Really love your content. Have been following you since your first video was released. Keep up the good work!!
@andrewhess123
@andrewhess123 6 месяцев назад
I would use the date in the name, that way each document is unique. I believe you could probably pull in the name as a quick part metadata too directly in the template. We could probably update it in the Power App or Power Automate also. I'll have to see if I can cover it in the next video. Appreciate the support Nevin!!
