The Bucs and Packers used to be in the same division (NFC Central). Speaking of divisions, there used to be some weird ones, such as the NFC West which included such "West" teams as Atlanta and New Orleans. At the same time that Atlanta and New Orleans were in the West, The Phoenix Cardinals were in the NFC East. The NFL really needed realignment then.

@sideswipe8469
@sideswipe8469 5 лет назад
The Canton Bulldogs finished 1920 season with a 7-4-2 record. They averaged 16 points per game and allowed 4.4 points per game. The best team that year were the Akron Pros. At 8-0-3 they allowed 7 points all season long and scored 151. That's 13.7 points per game that they scored and allowed just 0.6 points per game. Imagine a modern NFL team allowing just 7 points after 11 games.

@jsivco3sivco785
@jsivco3sivco785 6 лет назад
Then again... Why not? It helped to identify the team to a city. In the early days of the league, when you heard "Reds," you thought of Cincinnati. "Pirates" were Pittsburgh. etc. It aided the team in getting established, being identified with the city in which it was located.
@Ibelikemj
@Ibelikemj 6 лет назад
Back in the day. The tradition was to name the teams the same. There was the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB, NHL, and the NFL but after a year, the Pirates became the Steelers and the Pirates moved to Philadelphia in 1931. There was also the New York Giants in baseball, football and the Rangers were supposed to be the Giants as well. The baseball team moved to San Francisco in 1957. The St. Louis Cardinals was a coincidence though.
@TPTGopher
@TPTGopher 6 лет назад
Bill Spinge And pretty much all of those teams played in the same stadium as their MLB namesake. Jacoby Nixon It actually went even further... - Lions is a direct counterpoint to Tigers - Bears is a riff on Cubs - With the team moving from Braves Field to Fenway, “Redskins” served the dual purpose of sounding like Red Sox but allowing them to still use the Braves uniforms

Your video is indeed very informative and I feel like you would get a lot more viewers and subscribers if a lot more effort was put into them than just having a blank white screen with logos on it. You named off every detail except for when the Oakland Raiders first moved to Los Angeles in 1982. I think it was 82. I know this was only just the NFL, but it would have been interesting if you had mentioned the New York Jets starting out for the AFL and the Kansas City Chiefs starting out for the AFL when the New York Jets were called the New York Titans for the first few seasons and the Kansas City Chiefs were originally the Dallas Texans for the first few seasons.

Technically the Cardinals and Bears had a rivalry that pre-dated it. The Cardinals and Bears rivalry has since dissolved since they're no longer competing in the same town and as frequently as they used to.

The Arizona Cardinals and the Chicago Bears are the oldest franchises in NFL history that's why they play each other almost every season, cause they were cross-town rivals much like the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox.
@BroadswordMedia
@BroadswordMedia 6 лет назад
DJ Kosloski You are correct in how old these franchises are, but you are incorrect about why they play each other often. How the NFL schedule is set up is that every season each division cycles against an entire division within their conference during each season and each division also cycles against an entire division from the opposite conference each season and of course has two games per season against each division rival. The remaining three games are other teams from different divisions within their conference that finished in the same position as each other. It's actually why during the 2000s the Raiders and the Jets were going against each other several consecutive seasons in a row because both teams would finish third or last in their division most years and in the years where they didn't finish in the same spot in their respective divisions it turned out to be the year where the cycle of Divisions was AFC West vs AFC East. To be honest, I'm not sure if I'm actually explaining this as best as I can, but if you look up each teams schedule by year or select whatever team you want and then look up the standings from the year before, you'll understand.
@jerrypaquette5470
@jerrypaquette5470 6 лет назад
The way the schedule works, they are guaranteed to play each other every three years. Just like all the other teams in the NFC. They may Play each other more then that depending where the finished in their divisions each year. They do however, play each other every year preseason..

Does it ever amaze anyone how out of all the small teams like the Columbus Panhandles and the Dayton Triangles that a team like the Green Bay Packers still exist? There have been many times the Packers could've folded but the team still exists. *1921 - Packers head coach Curly Lambeau used college players from Notre Dame in a game against the Chicago Staleys, was snitched on my George Halas. The Packers were kicked out of the league until "The Hungry Five" had to raise funds to re-admit them in 1922. * A fan who fell from the bleachers at City Stadium won a $5,000 lawsuit against the Packers. * Joseph Carr worked to establish the Milwaukee Badgers as an attempt to financially compete with the Packers. The Badgers failed as a franchise and they played like shit. * The stock sales the Packers held in 1923, 1935 and 1950 were done to financially help the Packers in times of financial hardships and keeping the team in Green Bay. Since 1997 they were only held to raise funds for renovations and expansions to Lambeau Field. * Milwaukee County Stadium was intentionally built to not only attract a baseball team, but to attract the Packers to move to Milwaukee. But it was approved by Green Bay voters 11,575 to 4,893 to build a new "City Stadium" (now Lambeau Field). I could go on and on since things like the threats of relocation to Milwaukee even persisted through the 1980s, but I only wanted to point out how well the Packers played their cards and became what they are. Love them or hate them, they are still unique since there is no team like them in the big four sports leagues in North America that can prosper in a city that barely has a population of 100,000.

It's all very interesting, from the very first person to be paid to play, to the early NFL championship games in the 1930's, the Cleveland-Detroit rivalries of the 1950's, the rise of the AFL and the Super Bowl in the 60's, and of course the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, leading to today's playoff format. There is a case that the franchise once held by the Triangles is now the Indianapolis Colts. The Triangles folded after the 1929 season. The franchise was sold to interests in Brooklyn who fielded a team called the Dodgers. In 1944, the team was renamed the Tigers. The owner of the Tigers then jumped to the newly formed All-American Football Conference, abandoning his NFL franchise. The franchise in Brooklyn was merged with the Boston Yanks for 1946. In 1949, the Yanks moved to New York and became the Bulldogs. In 1950 and 1951, the team was called the Yanks and then folded after the 1951 season. That franchise was sold to owners in Dallas and the Texans were born. And before the 1952 season was over, the team folded and the league took over the franchise. In 1953, the franchise was sold to a group in Baltimore, who revived the Colts name. And finally, in 1984, the Colts were spirited away from Charm City to Indianapolis.

One error though, and the NFL perpetuates the error. The Ravens were NOT made from the remnants of the Browns... The Ravens WERE the former Browns! The team moved 100% intact to Baltimore. The current Cleveland Browns have no connection whatsoever to the Browns/Ravens except for the (racist?) name and the drab uniforms. They were an expansion team in 1999, taking the old name. You can't change history! ...although the NFL made Art Modell leave the name, uniforms, and "history" in Cleveland. However, history is not arbitrary, it's based on fact, not emotion. The current Browns II were 100% an expansion team. They should be called the Cleveland Frauds, because they're NOT the Browns of Jimmy Brown and Otto Graham! That team is in Baltimore!
