Danke Marc

I found when you've completed your edit (colour grading or whatever) in Davinci and then you export your XML project back to PremPro, you won't be able to extend each individual clip . Like if you wanted to make one clip longer, ya can't. Understandable considering the workflow, but just thought this should be kept in mind. Thanks for the tut!
@MarcFleddermann

Yes, you are completely right! Unfortunately there is no workaround for this, yet.
@ItsArnik
@ItsArnik 3 года назад
Isn't that what the frame handles function is there for? Or does that only work when you export the individual clips instead of XML?
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 3 года назад
That works in some cases when you only use basic Color Grading tools like Color wheels and curves. As soon as you create tracked masks, Keyframes etc. those effects won’t extend into the added frame handles 🙂

I also had an issue with 16:9 source footage used in a 4:3 Premiere sequence. The xml timeline in resolve was 4:3 but with the 16:9 footage so it made black bars on top and bottom to make the 4:3 work. and it exported that way. So. back in premiere I had a 4:3 timeline but with 16:9 footage and bars on top and bot. But a workaround would be to not change the sequence settings until after premiere. but not that great. Thanks for your tutorial.

Great tutorial. The timing of all clips is off when I import it from premiere to davinci
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 3 года назад
That may have several reasons. 10bit .mxf from Sony cameras for example. Or you interpreted the clips in Premiere. Or something completely different. Or just Premiere having a bad day... sorry I can‘t give a precise answer. It could be a lot of things.

New to Resolve. I need to export a cut .ari sequence with layers and FX to DPX using specific Resolve settings. What format should I render out of PP, to then reimport and send to Resolve? This stuff makes my head spin. Thanks-

hi, what is the best way to do this if I'm exporting for a client remotely (they live in another state but have all the raw footage)? Would I be able to export the full export in one Single Clip and then give them an XML for them to upload back into their Premiere? Or would I still have to export Individual Clips and an XML for them to work properly? Please let me know if possible, thank you!
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 2 года назад
If they have all the raw footage and the clips all have the same name as on your end it should be no problem. In theory they just need the xml from you, load it in Premiere and relink all the footage. It is good practice to also include a full render of your timeline as reference, so they can check if everything was linked right, scaling is okay etc.

excellent tutorial! my project has nest sequence, and with xml I can't open it in davinci. is there another way?
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 3 года назад
The only way I know is to render the nested sequences > reimport them in Premiere > replace the nests with the renders > proceed with the roundtrip :)

Interesting. I just got a file back from an editor that went through the round-tripping process. Transitions had been removed prior, and my file came back with about 10% of the 24 fps clips converted to 12 fps. Do you know any reason why this would happen?

Hi, please I need help if anyone knows. I am using XML process to send edited sequence to DaVinci. But somehow even tho I follow all the steps, DaVinci doesn't recognizes the order of the clips that I made in Premiere Pro, even tho I did everything as I'm supposed to. All the clips are on v1 timeline when exporting from Premiere Pro and no effects on them. But when I import it to DaVinci it makes some random clips order, which doesn't make sense. Can anyone help?
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 2 года назад
Do all the source files have unique names? If there are clips that have the same name, it could cause what you describe.
@mc_studios
@mc_studios 2 года назад
@@MarcFleddermann Hi Marc, yes all the files hav unique names, but I found that the problem is in mixed frame rates on the timeline, so when I import it some clips that were in 50fps are now all over the place. Is there a way to import mixed frame rates so that everything works fine like in Premiere?

hey Marc! do you know why playback in premiere pro is so slow once exported back to Premiere pro from Da vinci? cannot even play the clips :(
@MarcFleddermann

So you mean the Playback starts with a delay or playback is stuttery?

@@MarcFleddermann hey marc, so I found a work around but confused I was exporting in 3840 x 2160 (4k) because i recorded in 6k this is where the choppy playback is happening But if i export in 1920 x 1080, playback is smooth is exporting from da vinci in premiere xml 4k not good for roundtrip workflow?
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 2 года назад
I would guess it depends on your export settings. Maybe you chose a codec for the 4K files that does not playback well in Premiere. Or your data rate was way too high. Or you exported to a slower hard drive than the 6K files are on? There are many possibilities for this scenario. But the resolution alone does not cause stuttery playback.

Hey !! How to work with xavc s, sony footages round trip from premier and resolve, there is a issue related to time code, how to get it set for smooth work flow between premier and resolve??
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 4 года назад
Sony Footage in general is a bit tricky. I didn't have issues with XAVC-S so far, but I encountered several problems with their 10bit .mxf files which are XAVC-I. The only solution that gave me consistently good results so far was to transcode the original footage to DNxHD or ProRes before editing and roundtripping. Depending on the amount of footage it can be time consuming, but I think it is worth it.
@darshankumar._

@@MarcFleddermann yeah,i worke on it, i did as u said in prmier pro, i dropped the footages into premier, exported as saperare clips in prores/ DNxDH Then imported those files into resolve and this works , from resolve xml exported and it opens in premier so round trip works with proress and DNxHD Thanks alot 🙌🏻

Great video, thank you for sharing! What are your recommendations regarding time remapping? Would it be best to do that after color grading in DaVinci? TIA!

Yes, I would do it after Color Grading. Or before that but in the Resolve Editing Tab, not in Premiere.

@@MarcFleddermann Wow, thank you for your quick reply! Would the same also apply when working with After Effects for the same project? Color grade in DaVinci first? Thanks again!
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 3 года назад
@@woodencanoepictures That depends what you are doing in AE. For adding motion graphics or titles etc. I would say it is not relevant if you do it before or after. For compositing I would do that before Color Grading. But as there is no round trip from AE to Resolve it comes down to your personal workflow in the end. If you are not trying to build a dedicated VFX pipeline it doesn’t matter that much.

@@MarcFleddermann Thank you! I did have a chance to try out several times the workflow in your video, but I've run into some issues: I sent out a few Red files for color grading to a friend with DaVinci, and the returned xml files from him seem to be scaled down to what looks like 50, even though the exported clips were all scaled at 100 at native resolution. He didn't do any scaling on his end. Is there a box or field I missed in exporting and/or importing? There's a huge black frame around each clip. Thanks in advance! -Kat
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 3 года назад
@@woodencanoepictures what you describe is pretty common. You can’t rely on Premiere and Davinci to communicate things like scale and other transforms (and pretty much any effect) correctly. Everything has to be checked manually. This belongs into a bigger process called conforming. There is no single checkbox for this but when you search for “Davinci Resolve conforming” you will find your answers 🙂

Why not just do the edit in resolve?
@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 3 года назад
You could do that. But there are good reasons to edit in Premiere. Productions is one main feature for our company that Resolve simply does not offer. Also our pipeline involves heavy use of After Effects and Illustrator. The native integration with Premiere makes for a faster workflow than Resolve could in this scenario. But there is nothing wrong with editing in Resolve if it works for you 🤷‍♂️

@MarcFleddermann
@MarcFleddermann 3 года назад
@@TheEndz7 It's in the video starting at around 5:30. I would recommend testing with at least two clips for this. It is important to check "Individual Clips" in the Export Settings. Single Clip won't work.
