Fearlessness, fortitude and endurance indeed! Anyone who served on this mighty ship, the "USS Intrepid," should be very proud (in WWII, she was torpedoed once and hit by four separate Japanese kamikaze aircraft and also served in Viet Nam) and we are very proud of you for your service to our Country! "The Fighting I" is impeccably clean , just as one would expect from our Navy. Rest well, "Dry" -- you served us well! I would love to visit her, I visited "Mighty MO" the "USS Missouri" in Bremerton, WA, in the 1976 and was so impressed, I'm sure I would feel just the same about the "USS Intrepid."
Was there this past October 2018 and this was highlight of my trip to NYC! pd loved seeing the Concorde there and did the private tour inside of her! Incredible.
My Daughter and I had The Pleasure of Viewing her. It made me feel very Humble and Proud. Standing at The Gunnery I could almost feel what it must of been like when Enemy Planes were Shot Dow. I am so Happy She was Restored and not Scrap Metal. To all Families I thank them for their Loved Ones Service
Really nice overview of the whole Intrepid experience, looks like a really interesting place to visit. Really cool to see all these historic pieces preserved. Nice video!
The Intrepid ship is a must see! Its huge and covers air, sea and space crafts! Its definitely interesting to see the these carriers up close! Be sure to plan your trip because it can get busy and the lines are long. I suggest you come earlier, they open at 10am so be there before that. The fact that you can tour an Aircraft Carrier is super cool! They have so many other attractions like an SR-71 blackbird, a Concorde you can tour and a full size replica of a space shuttle! Such an amazing place to experience with your children!
I had the chance to visit the Intrepid back in 1993, still very vivid in my memory. Funny thing is, as most tourists in NY, we didn't even know she was here and it was a museum. When we stumbled on her while randomly discovering in the neighbourhood, I was so exited I jumped around my dad like a doggo. He had no choice. Sorry the bad English.
I havent been on the intrepid probably since I was 12 or so, 45 now, I remember it much more raw, almost how it used to look during its service time, things are very clean now, everything is behind glass, I remember touching everything.
I was a volunteer there for a few years, helping to retore the aircraft while I was going to school for my FAA aircraft mechanics license. Been close to 30 years since my last visit, so much has changed, but I still see some familiar birds.
Im Juni 2022 habe ich dieses Schiff besichtigt, einfach Gänsehaut… und gegenüber liegt ein U-Boot, das man auch besichtigen kann

Really interesting video and of course awesome! The aircraft carrier looks so BIG! Thank you for this very nice video! I hope I will be able to see all of that during my life!
Das ist eine interessante Tour! Schon klasse, was es dort alles zu sehen gibt. Eine tolle Vielfalt an Flugzeugen auf dem Flugdeck und die Concorde daneben ist natürlich super. Daumen hoch für das Video!
Nice video, I am the guy who fabricated all those white vertical posts with the angled tops that surround the displays, mostly seen on the flight deck and hanger areas
I am from the OK and visited here during a holiday in New York, although i loved all the tourist spots and the history nothing compares to this ship and it's history it was a jy and a privilege to be aboard her, i note in 99% of New York video tours on RU-vid they do not mention this great tourist attraction.
The nicest looking of the Essex class, and the second oldest carrier we have that’s still with us Yorktown, Intrepid, Hornet, Lexington, Midway, our last carriers from 43-45
cherifbar I was on it in the early 80's also. Then again in the early 2000's. They have made a lot of changes. Moved the aircraft around and blocked people from getting close to the aircraft and control panels in the bowels of the ship. I wanna go again.
I didn’t know about this museum when we were in NY in 2018! What a missed opportunity. With the pandemic now, no idea when I will have the chance to visit.
My dad was a US Marine that was a first day lander on Tarawa 2nd Marines Red 2…..after being wounded on the third day he was in R&R in Hawaii then after his recovery he was reassigned to the USS Intrepid CV11…..he was a gunner on 25 November 1944, port side gunnery tub…..he said they got general quarters around noon, man your battle stations and were directed to shoot at the sun….the Japanese used the sun as their strategy, however two Kamikazes got thru…..my dad was seriously wounded by the Kamikazes attack hitting the Intrepid in addition to all the other bullets and bombs……..very dangerous day for both sides……God bless and protect the US Navy and the USMC….Semper Fi.
Wife wants to visit this, but I see their website says video cameras are prohibited. Did you get written permission to bring a video camera, and how difficult was it to obtain?
Toller Rundgang und Wahnsinn was dort alles zu sehen gibt! Irre! Dass die Amis sogar eine Concorde haben, wusste ich gar nicht. Bist du auch drin gewesen? Ist überraschend sehr eng dort. Gruß DrDuu
Yes, it's an A-12. People get them confused all the time. The A-12 is single seat, has a pointier less broad nose, and is shorter in length than the SR-71 which also has a spiked tail. Besides the spiked tail, the big "tells" of the SR-71 are the second crewman windows on the side and a broader nose. The chine area extends further on the SR-71. I think this serves both an aerodynamic (additional lift for the heavier SR-71) purpose as well as extra internal area/storage for the sensor packages. The main reason the SR-71 continued in service while the A-12 was retired after a year of service was that the SR-71 was the more versatile plane. The speeds of the plane were identical but the SR-71 carried more fuel for greater range. The only advantage the A-12 had was higher altitude capacity (about 5,000ft more altitude) but that's to be expected for a lighter plane with the same wing area. You could "missionize" the SR-71 for every flight with interchangeable noses and removable chine sides for different types of radar and other sensor packages you couldn't carry on the A-12. The A-12 basically carried a camera for reconnaisance and that was it. Yes, the camera on the A-12 was bigger and had higher resolution as a consequence. The bay the A-12 camera was in was adapted to carry the second crewmen for the SR-71 and other 2-seat (A-12T, D-21, YF-12A) derivatives of the A-12.
I feel like if pure going to take a world war 2 era ship and make it a museum, you gotta load it up with at least half world war 2 planes. All I see are post world war 2 planes and helicopters. I think I saw like, one world war 2 plane.
I miss U.S.S.INTREPID now that Living Florida 😪What don't Miss What Museum Done to her Turn Ship Side Show What With Decals every Body New York Know it INTREPID there no need Write it on Ship.Pray U.S.S.SULLIVAN Buffalo New York ♥Sinking
From what I could see there are not that many areas of the ship open to the public. I know that they spent alot of money on refurbishing this ship but on what? For the amount of money they charge to see this ship I would not waste it. Go see the USS New Jersey where virtually the whole ship is open to the public.
Just because it New York... A Space Shuttle... one that actually flew... (not in space) and a Freaking aircraft carrier gets it... The enterprise should have gone to the Science and Industry Museum in Chicago... Its the Largest Science Museum in the Western hemisphere. But no... its New York.. so they get it... on a freaking aircraft carrier.
