Like the other guy said, that is not Frankensteined wiring!! It looks professional!!! I found your site and this video caught my attention so I subscribed!! I have a f150 also!!!😎💪🇺🇸 awesome content bud!!
Back in the 50's my father built his own camping/hunting addition out of plywood on the bed of his old Chevy PU Truck. He took that rig everywhere until October of '74, then he started getting sick and passed away in May of '75. It had all the comforts you'd want. He was born on a farm in Pennsylvania in 1897, survived WWI. He was very handy in all types of projects. I enjoy seeing what folks come up with. You all stay safe and love to you from Baltimore.
@@Eye-it-azz seeing as Abraham Lincoln was assassinated in 1865, he likely knew him as much as most of us know him…most of us, but probably more than you know him, obviously.
@@usemymalekarenvideo4983 Of course they are. And you pay when you purchase them, then you keep paying when you refuel them. Campervans are even better, and again you pay and keep paying... RV's are even better... Brian demonstrated to us that you can do it cheaply.
@@draganminic4928 Camper vans and RV's are more comfortable no doubt. But are not stealth. Pick up trucks with camper stick out a little and inconvenient.
I was just thinking the same thing! So many of these builds become so overly complicated. There is value in keeping things simple...less to go wrong, less to replace, easier to replace. I just watched a beautiful build, it was gorgeous, but you need an electrician's degree just to maintain it. That (for me) defeats the object of the thing which is to be mobile and independent. There is space in this lovely little build to add some bits like a fridge or a tiny toilet, a small stove, etc. And so simple. I love it. 😊
Re: 2:35 - My LEER shell locks/unlocks with my key fob or the door buttons, and is openable from inside either with the fob or the single, centered, interior lever. I bought it because of those two features. As a woman often camping alone it was paramount to me to be able lock and unlock it while inside. Nice build!
I’ll assume the rest of your life and home are as squared away as this project is? Very well done! The degree of detail , and attention given to function, as well as aesthetic: is unparalleled in 99% of truck camper videos.
Go check out his work space on the video where he installs outside security lights! When you look in the dictionary for the word 'organized' you see Brian's face! OCD or not... hat's off to Brian!
Mr. Waters: This is as NEAT and CLEAN a camper conversion as I have ever witnessed. There are also a host of "Magnificent" ideas that could also be transferred to MiniVan and full size Van conversions. Wonderful build, with a "meticulous" attention to detail. I am most impressed. Thank YOU so much for sharing these very useful and useable concepts. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
YES, I was hoping to find the right van for some Nomad fun but with the price of vehicles now, this has proven the best solution for me, my truck, and my new truck cap, this is hugely inspiring. Mine will NEVER, look this neat and clean though, lol.🤷♀️🤣
For a starter build that’s very clean and awesome. Got into truck camping from KBTproductions and Mav, found Quady shortly after. I’m gonna subscribe because you seem like you’ll have some dope adventures. Looks fantastic good luck and have fun!
I love this build. Everything is so clean and professional looking. Everything looks as if it belongs there. If I didn’t have to carry around so many tools in the back of my truck every day I would build this exact setup in the bed of my truck
Your rig is by far the best I’ve seen in a truck bed. The carpet everywhere is amazing, love the way you did your drawers and electrical wiring. Just a test set up, if shit hits the fan, put valuables in the truck and tie off. Nothing better than that. The way you have everything set up, it looks like there is nothing but a bed, the carpet unites everything. So clean, I really like what your done. Greetings from Riverside in Southern California.
Love this build and seeing you take off with the camper series! As a woodworker, truck owner, and frequent camper, this is so nice to see! Congrats Brian!
Such a beautiful, simple and clean build. So smart of you to utilize already installed screws with your build. The cabinets in the corner look fantastic! Lighting and curtain hookups look really impressive too.
Not sure why this video was recommended to me but it was very cool. As a girl that can’t even hang a picture I found this to be quite amazing. I laughed at the beginning when you said your mom was going to “build” you some curtains. Lol
That's a nice set up. I had an old mattress that filled the bed and an aluminum topper on my 1985 F-150 Pickup. I loved sleeping in it when we camped out on the local lake, and when it rained the raindrops hitting the topper's roof you slept like a baby. We kept the cooler handy for cold soft drinks and sandwiches, so we were all set. 🙂
Probably one of the best looking setups I’ve seen but to be honest the bags in the “junk” drawer is seriously the best idea I’ve seen in a long time. Not only am I going to use that when I do my build but I’m probably going to use that idea at my house lol!
Cut up cardboard cereal thickness boxes and sour cream containers or other cleaned food containers. Good for the environment, for in your home or re purpose tupper ware. Yogurt cups to for right sized things. Works better to divide up drawers in a home than bags. Bag system is great for mobile use tho.
Your build is one of the best I’ve seen, I appreciate how neat and tidy everything is. I am going to watch your other videos to see how you built the components. Happy camping from Aus 🇦🇺🦘
Brian, your video has been the top video suggesting my truck camper build video so I thought I’d pop on over and check your build out. Great job, man! I built my bed about 11” high and sometimes wish for the extra head room, but it’s such a balance between function and comfort in such a small space. Keep up the great content…going to see how your first night went!
Nice job! It's got all the basics covered very well. Obviously, there is no upper limit to how fancy one could go with any sort of camper build but this one should do a decent job of providing short term shelter that requires minimal effort to use. Hope you enjoy it!
Sleeping in a tent or popup is not easy. For me anyways. It's so musty and humid especially in the morning, I can't imagine doing it for more than a day or two when I go camping. How does this compare? Is it dry? Is there condensation? Do you have solar panels? How do you power that battery?
Well, I’m in Texas so pretty humid, but I’ve got a crazy amount of airflow inside. Both side windows open up completely and I’ve got 2 fans I run throughout the night. It’s not bad at all to be honest.
Looks nice and comfortable. Respectfully, a couple of suggestions. Improve the chain on the S-hook for securing from the inside. Fire extinguishers, I would suggest two minimum for a vehicle that size running electronics or for any emergency. Given the times we live in I would suggest some trauma pieces to your first aid care. Get tourniquets, blood clotting products, some small tampons for holes (do your research on that one) needle to relieve a collapsed lung, etc. Have limo/blacked out tint for your camper windows. You can get someone to apply it, they’ll do it without writing you a receipt. I’ve sported limo tent on all of my vehicles because of my former uniformed profession. It’s smart. Road flares? Exterior lighting for security, emergencies, etc. Where’s a handgun, AR, or at least a quality shotgun and ammunition. Bear spray is good to have but it will not save your life. Some things, in my opinion, to consider. It’s yours and your family’s lives at stake once you leave the castle. Take a midland radio and a $20 ham radio and/or a radio with emergency channels. Remember, you may be in that vehicle when something bad may happen and no one’s coming to help. Think in those terms and you’ll make the proper additions.
@@BrianWatersOutdoors I caught your euphemism immediately because of that holster and since my "bear spray" for many years was a .475 Linebaugh (it actually was for bears, lol). I agree with everyone else, very nice work!
I suggest using green or red lights to reduce the loss of your vision when it's dark outside. White lights will diminish the ability to see in the dark for some time after you use them.
Bear spray? Haha. Clean build, I might do one similar. I'd like to tie in solar panels to charge my power source and run a fridge and a laptop to I can travel and do photography on the road.
Awesome job. In case you missed it the carpet on floor and sides are made by Bed Rug and I like the pocket screw joinery. I have a Bed Rug too in my factory carpeted Snug Top topper but thats all. I’d love to have this setup but with a wife we like our 19 ft high clearance trailer. Hmmm 🤔 this would make a great winter shop project! Thanks.
Love the build! I'm looking to do something similar with my truck! Was wondering where you got all of your pouches at, what you use to hold you toothbrush and all the upper drawer ones?
I've got an inverter inside my truck, with protected wiring going to the inside of the bed of the truck, and installed a regular 120v outlet inside the corner, and maybe someday I may install a switchover to hook up to shore power. You have to be careful what you hook into the outlet because it is not a true sine wave inverter. Love your setup, real fancy.
Bob is right that some devices do not like inverters because of the imperfect waveform, but that's not what you have installed. Thats a simple "regulator" or "power supply" converting AC to DC. An inverter would take DC in (from the battery) and give you AC out (typically 120V here in US). I was particularly impressed with your clean, safe, and frankly impressive wiring job.
I really tried to give credit. Obviously getting quite a bit of flack on some of this, but oh well. It’s only 25 square feet of space so not a whole lot you can do with it. I do appreciate your kind comment👍🏻👍🏻
@@BrianWatersOutdoors Forget the haters bro! Your setup is great. Nothing in this world is original anymore so alot of things are going to look the same. It’s not like you’re in an RV lol I’m watching your first trip video now. That Mango Habanero sauce is the best!
What do you use to get on and out I climbing o er tailgate wife worries I will fall and brake something maybe a hip truck camping is a challenge for me but way better than some place I slept in VN
Me too. With the way this is built I just slide the bed and cabinet out and I virtually have full access again. That was one of the main design thoughts for this. I buy and use a lot of plywood, so I still need to use my truck as a truck.
What an awesome job you did on your truck camper. That is what I’ve wanted to do to mine but my camper shell has some major issues which I can’t seem to get fixed. Nice job on the electrical as well! I’m a new subscriber. Looking forward to your first outing.
Thank you Sherry! I appreciate it. I’ve got 3 or 4 trips planned in the next four weeks. Some are truck camping, and some will be with my DIY camper RV I built this year! Check out the build below👍🏻 ru-vid.com/group/PL0nCuCrPaFDs0DiettnjCiTN9ZLnbPSn4
You put together a super well designed and organized truck camper shell. Pretty incredible the amount of powdered options you put in and yet you don't have wires running loose everywhere, that's great work 👍. I love truck camping. I have a Chevy Classic Conversion Van with the full-on EXPLOYER Co package. Great for quick weekends and fishing trip camping.
This is so brilliant!!! I clicked on it thinking it would be something my brother who is in heaven would absolutely LOVE!!! And his name is Brian too, so I’ll take that as a sign from heaven!!! Brilliant build!! I love it!!!
I had and 81 Chevy 30 years ago and did a layout for a similar design. Was never able to put it together, but this design is really great. Makes me wish I had put mine together!
Wonderful, I just met this guy and he loves hiking and camping. Now I want to do this on my truck 🤔 we’re not even serious, but I enjoy hiking and I will continue even if doesn’t work with him 😅 yup 👍🏻 I’m not even going to ask how I got here. I know is all the camping and hiking videos I’ve been watching 🙈
Very clean install. I really like what you've done. I've wondered about doing something similar to my Chevy Silverado, so you've given me some great ideas.
Love the build, very clean. I’d also think it would be a good idea to build “modules” that you could put in depending on what and where you’d be camping. Maybe a bigger “module” w more drawers that could be pulled out, or maybe build the entire unit on one of those slide out bed shelves, would be cool to slide the entire build out and sleep under the stars if it was temp and weather sufficient! Just an idea…..
man idk 13 years ago lived out my truck, took a door slider pin latch drilled a hole in the lid, and slid it in at night 0 way for it to open ever. I also sometimes used to leave the back completely locked, and go in through the rear split windows. Miss that truck
Wow, just. Wow. I'm amazed at how clean and organized your setup is. Your power station is so efficient looking, I'm gonna definetly steal the grid pattern for my rig. I never thought about using Cafe rods as curtain rods but that's what's used in conversion vans. Thanks for the awesome video, I really got some great idea for my setup.
That chain lock idea is a pretty cool idea, a little bit heavier chain would probably be better. The curtain rods are an excellent idea. Nice build. Thanks for sharing.
I think everything is great. However and respectfully consider the idea of fold up doors on the side of the camper. You mentioned the curtains and that’s good for privacy however if you are trying to keep the heat out, The most effective way is to keep the sunlight out. That being said, on these small doors that you could attach fairly easily, you could also install small solar panels and gas struts that would hold them up. They would also provide additional security and shelter if needed. I do not agree with putting gas bottles into a cabinet. You could have a gas leak and it could fill the entire cabin creating a bad situation.
If you are considering doing this, one thing different I would recommend; is put the bed in the other side. It should be on the RIGHT as you face the back of the truck. The reason is, if you are parked on a street, every car that goes past will be passing with two feet of you sleeping. It shakes the vehicle and you hear and feel every one of them. One of my big fears, was being hit by a car, as I was parked on the street. You would not believe how many drunks and crazy drivers go by each night. I wanted a CRASH BUFFER between me and any car hitting me, so I always slept on the passenger side of the car. Also make the bed wider and a little away from the side. That so you have a little room to put insulating blankets or something between you and the cold metal. Sleeping is the hardest part of this. Make your bed as comfortable as possible. Storage is easy to come by. Comfortable sleeping is not.
Incredible job!!! Have u considered doing a set up on the the new f-150 lighting? There’s a ton of new features that would be super helpful for this kind of adventuring!!
Thanks for this interesting video! Is there a way to connect your "camper" power rig to the pickup truck itself so you can charge your reserve battery and all of your other goodies (possibly a GoPro, cellphone or laptop/tablet/whatever while you're on the highway in-transit?
To eliminate excessive weight I would use pvc tubing for the frame and an air bed. A note… high density foam absorbs odors and weighs a lot. TY 4 the brainstorming ideas!
Pretty awesome, man. I like the minimalist setup, although I'm sure it will grow throughout your adventures. I'd love to do something like this in my truck. Cheers! Edit: Just realizing this is a 2 year old video lol! I'll watch some more for updates.
I just got my g2 license in Canada (I can drive by myself just not on the highway yet till the full g) and I'm so excited for my full g to get a pick up and deck out the back like you. You made it so smooth and not busy. I don't at all have the expertise for that so that end part with the wiring will help. Thanks for making this short little video, it's inspiring💙
Man, I wish I had the idea to do this when I was traveling and hitting 40-50 rodeos a year. Injuries and age have cut me down to probably half of that, but seriously thinking about building one in my 2012 F150 regardless. I would try and find a way to make everything easily removable to be able to use the bed, if possible. But I think my biggest hang up would be that I have the 5.5 foot bed...I'm 6 foot tall so I'm pretty cramped on space. Great stuff man 👍👍
Duuude this thing is awesome! I like the way you do things. Very clean. I thought about doing this but with a family had to go with the camper trailer. Doing similar mods tho to that. Good video.
I see the F-35 sticker on the back window and you have a Lockheed shirt. What trade are you. Worked on C-130s for many years. Love the Lockheed aircraft. Nice truck camper build too by the way. I've done a similar build in my shirt bed truck but my bed is diagonal so I can lay down straight.
Hey bud! I do work at LM….and have been up to Marietta many times to support the C-130. But, you know how LM is, so I’ll just keep it at that so I can keep my “real job”😂👍🏻
I was with Aus Air Force C-130s and Boeing Australia for many years on 737 AEW&C avionics. Fun times. Love all your videos mate. It's a shame we don't get many long bed trucks down here. Your truck camper setup looks so good. I'm stuck sleeping diagonally in my short bed. Lucky I'm not a tall guy.
Love this layout, now I just need a truck. BTW if you get an RGB light or just a red light, you can make that 3rd switch a night light (meaning no blue lighting to mess with sleep algoritms and red light gives you enough to see by when you wake up in the middle of the night instead of blinding yourself with the others).
