(as a good Argentinian, I had to get it) so I started my journey playing arcade in France up to tier 3. A friend told me that I earned more RP if I played realistic. It should be noted that it was very bad. I limited myself to bombing bases tortuously with the p63. I got to AD4 and it was a bit of a relief. So successively until I finally got it. After so much suffering I was able to buy the Mirage 5F last week. without a premium account and a lot of effort. Now I'm going to uninstall the game and go out and play some grass.

5.7 stuck with Germany, shits rough, just don't stick with a all fw190 planes because they suck at agility, I have 2 bf109's the G14 and the G10 and then I have a FW190 A8, it's fun but I am currently grinding for the Me262 A1/U4 whatever the one is at 5.7
I've done france with 18 days of premium, from rank II to rank V, then rank VI I grinded it with no premium, and now i'm grinding the Leclerc with no premium
I found the easiest way to grind is to just enjoy the tier youre currently in as much as possible because youll miss it..and youll miss all the lessons that need to be learned the hard way...simply put just play and focus on learning. Before you know it youre halfway down a tier..my two cents
I am a free to play player, been playing ever since 2017. My advice for anyone starting to play this game: DELETE IT NOW. This game came from the depths of Hell, and years of grinding literally gave me suicidal thoughts. This game is NOT suitable for everyone. I literally once went to sleep crying because I knew that I was addicted to the game, but I could not stop the addiction, and it was getting over me. Stopped playing for 3 years (2021) and returned earlier this month to see if things had changed. They have NOT changed. Gaijin is still the same ridiculously shit company as ever. And guess what? The suicidal thoughts came back. Thankfully I mustered enough courage to finally uninstall and never play this piece of fuck for good this time, and while I still enjoy the memes, I cannot play this thing anymore, I swear I will end up making my family cry in the end.
i'm playing war thunder completely f2p for over 2 years, i main the soviets and my highest br is 6.7 lol. though i think i'm making it harder for myself by playing other nations from time to time, i'm 3.7 in usa and like to suffer with the italians a bit too, i also play both grb and arb, haven't spent a single golden eagle, the pain is real.
France is actually pretty good once you have many backups on the Char 2C. Then your basically a god, i got 14 kills with a 2c in a realistic so its pretty good
I personally have an account I've been working on since 2015. And I am still grinding to get to top tier. Let's just say I will be buying premium when it goes on sale for the anniversary sale.
They are hard to master but french low tier tanks are very powerful, especially the H39, S.35 and D2. You have to rely and your armor and the good depression of your guns. The APX turret is small,has a lot of angles and is hard to pen. Use hills to conceal the hull of your tanks and use your good gun depression to shoot at enemies from safety. If you have no hills, angle your tanks sharply. The D2 has 40mm of armor on all sides and can even bounce BT-5 shells. S.35 and H-39 also have good armor but more flat surfaces and most critical, the bottom of your hull is especialy vulnerable. Thankfully they are asymetrical so one side of the hull doesn't have a flat surface so you can angle it. The shells of french tanks are very bad. They have decent pen but awful post pen damages. The shells also tend you easily bounce at the slightless angle. First make peace with the fact that you will not one shot your enemies. Be careful with your shots, aim for flat surfaces and preferably with the intent to diable critial crew members like the gunner or driver. You can disable certain component pretty easily : engines and transmition. However you will not manage to destroy tracks, guns, canon breaches and ring turrets in one shot. As for mobility, don't even think about it. Your only fast mover is the AMD.35 (good gun, no post pen damages, no armor). H-39 and S.35 can move decently well from time to time but the D2 top speed is 23 km/h. Even going down a slope only make it slightly faster. To play french tanks (the heavy armored ones) I will propose those few rules : 1. During an engagement, focus on defense : as soon at you spot your enemy, the first thing you must do is angle your tank. You have a very low chance to kill your enemy first so focus on staying alive. 2. Focus on disabling before killing : once your angled you are very hard to kill so take your time to engage your foe. Since you shells are bad maximize your chances to defeat you foe by, for example, preventing it to move (panzers II/III/IV transmissions are easy to destroy). Once your target is helpless, pick it apart. 3. You can face multiple opponent : Once you're angled, your tank can take a beating and survive. If you happen to face multiple opponent, the emphasis of disabling your enemy is even more important. Immobilise the tank which is the least threatening for you first so you can focus on the real threat later. 4. 20mm shower : Thanks to your armor you are very difficult to pen for a AA or auto-canon guns. The D2 is quasi immune to such caliber and as such you are the bane of panzer IIs, SPAA and armored cars. Don't be afraid of them. 5. The maginot position : Your armor is strong but not invincible, especially against shells like HEAT. As such it is wise to hide your big hulls behind obstacles such as hills and wreaks. With your good gun depression it is not rare to find a position where only your small, highly angled turret is visible to the enemy, greatly increasing your survivability.
Biggest threat to french tanks (from experience) : M8 LAC (Mobile. Hard to pen due to sloped armor, high pen. Use HE to take care of it). HO-I (Very hard to pen. Has a HEAT shell that will ruin your day). T-70 (Can give you a run for your money armor wise. Good gun. Thankfully slow. Bad turret depression coupled with small size make it hard for it to aim on uneven terrain). BT-5/7 (Very mobile. Easy to pen but you have to kill the right crew members first (gunner). High pen and post pen damages. If attacked from side or behind, focus on shooting the engine since the turret is slow to traverse you will have time to shoot another shot at the gunner. If you kill the gunner first without disabling it mobility (engine, driver, transmission) good chance is that the BT will escape). T-26 (Slow, fragile but same damage potential than the BT). A-13 (Mobile, good pen, bad post pen damages. Armor can be trolly but should be easy to pen. Treat it like a BT). Stuarts (Mobile, good pen, average post pen damages. Turret is hard to pen because of angled and small it is. Shoot the flat surfaces on the hull.) Tetrarch and Damler Mk.II (Very mobile, bad armor, good pen, low post pen damages). Strv m/31 and Strv m/38 (Somewhat mobile. Bad armor, broken pen, bad post pen damages. They will pen you but may bounce on high angle. Try to present them with your large empty space you have at the back of your vehicle). Strv m/40L (same as above). Average threats : Panzer VI (Usually not a threat but it can have a HEAT shell which negate your armor so be careful). I-Go-Ko (Slow and lightly armored but has a HEAT shell which it WILL use). Chi-Ha (Same as above but more mobile). 155mm gun carriers (Ro-Go&Cie. They are a threat to everyone but they are so hard to use that most people miss their shot anyway. They are easy to kill with HE and you will fire at them before they fire at you). 75-76mm HE bois (BT-42 and M8 mainly. They have less chance to overpressure you but it can happen so don't let them hit you too often. HE for M8 and AP in the middle of BT-42). TDs (most can pen you but their gun handling are subpar are they are either casemates or open tops. HE make short work of open tops. SU-122 is a rare encounter but it's a massive pain to deal with) M13/40 and other italian mediums (They can pen you with difficulty but so can you. About as dangerous as panzer III/IV without HEAT). LVT(A)(1) (Squishy but a decent gun. You are already used to shoot at target you know won't die in one shot.) M2 (Harder to pen and has a decent gun but not a very good plateform. Its .50cal are no threat to you). Dive bombers with you aim. Low threat : T-28 (Tts anemic gun is not a threat to you but its a hassle to kill. Try to immobilize it first). M22 (An annoyance. Will ram you.) Panzer IIs (Very low chance to pen you. Kinda hard to kill at a distance because volumetric). T-60 (same resilience as the T-70 but its autocanon is ineffective against you). Sdkfz.222, AB-41 and their ilk (They are a joke to you. The hard part is to catch them). SPAAs (No threats). Figher planes (A light drizzle on your hull).
i made the wt account im currently playing somewhere around my birthday in june 2018 , and have been playing it on and off since then , from the very get go i decided i will play france and im still doing that , however due to me playing it on and off my latest tank is the amx 13 (lmao) , and imo france isnt bad at all , solid shot is the only thing ive known for these past 6 or 7 years so it doesnt bother me in the slightest (never did tbh) , and the reason i chose france was me finding their tank philosophy interesting , also i never spent a single dime on war thunder because i simply see no reason to do so
hey i feel you, i have to play on minimum settings to get above 45 FPS and tbh the game doesn’t even look THAT bad. just got hired at a new job so i will definitely be upgrading to a much better PC soon
Currently getting back into WT and my account is F2P around 4.7-5.0 for USSR. Some matches can be frustrating, others really fun. Gotta get that next tier though
I really don't wanna have this console & PC WT experience. WTM is pain but still enjoyable already. (Not a masochist) (I suppose I'm not that harsh because I just recently got a new platoon ft. AMX-13 HOT and AMX-30B. A MBT with an autocannon; why we don't have more of these?) (Thankfully these early French tincans weren't in WTM, we immediately start with Shermans, T-34s, and Panzer IVs)
True because the start tanks have 20 mm as main weapons and the ammo is placed in the hull so if the gunner needs to reload he doesnt have the close ammo he has to go to the ammo in the hull, pick it up, go to the turret then load the weapon and no ammo in the turret

I'm a f2p player with over 2k hours and rn im 30krp from the leopard 2a4 I also have gepard and leopard 1a5 and kpz70 aswell as t72m1 as my 4 tank line up and with air im at 6.0 with the ta-152 and fw190 a5 bf109 trop and me410 and ships im 4.0 and I've never used any GE or premium and I have alot of pride in the fact I refuse to feed the snail

I been F2p for years - Never struggle to play against others... Might be P2W but its all separated into brackets of vehicle capability level ranges so unless you're complete garbage you should always have a decent match.
