Hi there! Nice job, I just found your cahanel and I like your engineer style, straigh to the object. I am also building my windows and skylights out of residential european (not UK) pvc windows (turning them upside downd and repositioning the handle inside), adding a third glass panel above the other two. Will add an aluminium corner on top, to protect the outside glass edge from smashing on trees. Can you put a link or a name of those pressure valves? I searched a lot on internet and never found them. Outbound manufacture don't want to disclose that "secret" , wich is understandable. I tought of filling the gap with some silicone, then puncture it with a needle after curing. Might have the same results.. Thanks! Keep up the good work!

Great idea with the pvc windows, the only problem I see is that you have the glass stops on the outside, if someone knows how to remove glass from an PVC frame he gets in quite easily, unless you glue the glass unit right in to the frame than is it pretty safe. For the pressure valves please watch my " how to make your own windows " video you will find everything in that one ! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v78sMY9Q4zs.html

@@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF , allready found your video about Swisspacers, after asking you. Good info, also. I solved the thieves problem by removing the locking profiles and adding the third sheet of glass (with spacer, too) over the others, but not the same size, larger, as the frame (like a T sandwich). Then, glued an L aluminium frame over and locked the sandwich glass on the frame in the side hidden edge of the pvc frame with some screws. Those screws can't be accessed if the window is closed because it's the same level with the exterior sheet of the wall, the interior frame is inserted in the wall hole from inside and added a 2cm pvc profile to compensate the exterior frame height. Hope you understood.. it's hard to explain that without drawing 🙂

@@silviuflorescu6838 I totally get what you saying, great idea triple glass good for the energy efficiency, looks probably pretty slick if you have a little tint to the outside pane.

grate videos so far, looking forward for the next one. Small question, did you make the detail drawings by your self and if so, what program did you use?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF Год назад
I am not sure to what drawings you referring to, if you mean the brake shape drawings for my flashing guy, I hand sketch them scan with my phone and send it via email to him. If you mean the drawings for the floor plan video I have hired a draftsman. I may touch on this topic in my next video thanks for your question .

Hi Oscar, how are you? Please, can you tell me how to prevent water from entering this flat roof window?
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF Год назад
Thank you for your comment ! Well the top of the skylight has a pretty thick silicone bead between glass and powder coated frame. And on the inside is a seal gasket between the two aluminum parts ( Frame and lid ) I hope this helps.

With your experience with both, do you think you could use that dowsil primer with sika 252 instead of 206? I can't find sikaflex primer, and it's more than twice the price.
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF
@oscaroverlander_MB1222AF Год назад
Me personally I would not take chances but who knows maybe it works worth a try. You have seen my test's I did and I would not mix it even the sika primer 207 is more expensive. I checked Ebay and there is a few cans primer listed but " the most are already expired on there shelf live date " pay attention if you purchase. If you have an account at CR Laurence www.crlaurence.ca/ they have it in stock. Or www.crlaurence.com

How much money did you save building your windows and skylight vs buying them?
@jdcoverland365
@jdcoverland365 Год назад
JDC Overland replying ,With respect Your question sounds simple, it is FAR from it. Window manufactures build to size(X) If your wall thickness is thicker, or thinner than the window thickness the builder makes, your dead in the water. I found this out myself. My walls will be 2.125" thick. Standard windows & doors are not that size. If you noticed the installed window still requires a lower trim piece. Also, you have to factor your time in as well. Hope this helps.

@@jdcoverland365 I agree about them being truly custom windows because of the insulation depth. As far as costs I meant just materials costs, not including his time. My overlander is in the planning stage, my habitat is going to be 8'-6" exterior width to accommodate a minimum of 4" XPS insulation on all sides. I will be living in my rig full time so I am even considering 6" of XPS on all the walls, floor, and ceiling so that my habitat can withstand up to -40F in cold Canadian winters. My freshwater and gray tank will be inside the insulated envelope to prevent freezing. I will be using hydronic in floor heating using a German made electric tankless hot water heater and a circulator pump. There will be a very large solar array and large LiFePO battery bank to support all the electrical needs, I have no plans to use a diesel heater or propane stove it will be all electric.

How much money I save by doing my windows and skylight ? It is hard to tell because what is your benchmark acrylic windows and domed skylight than I am more expensive but apples to apples I have significant savings. First of all there is no supplier in North America for real double pain camper windows and skylights, means you have to import them. Here we have already 4 digits saved. In Europe are quite a few window and door supplier for this type of product in different price levels ( I am avoiding to name any company's ) For example my bedroom window the top guys take 2500 EUR for it and the mediocre 1100 EUR, pretty much the same for the hatches. I have 5 windows and two hatches in my build 1 skylight which is sold for 2800 to 4000 Euro ( including the bug screen ) and the Panorama hatch I could not even find someone , respectively a price. You do the math. The material for my skylight without my time came to 20% of a average selling price. I appreciate your comment !

Another great video 📹 👏 👍 I have to go back and watch the window making video. You had mentioned a round about way to get the glass, and materials. Thanks for showing us all it can be done. Especially building an incredible expedition truck for a fraction of what one would cost to buy. $250k up to over a million. Will you be making a rough budget / cost of your build video? 👍🛠🪚⚙🏕

Thank you again ! Yeah such numbers are not in the cards for us, that's why I decided to make my own. In regards of the budget I will not openly present the budget. First and foremost I don't wanna force my own divorce :-) , secondly everybody buys for a different price locally and this will add on or stay below my budget so the number won't be accurate. But I try as best as I can to tell the source where I get my stuff from so the community has less search time. Thanks for commenting !
