All of the recent m30b35 content is so sick! Keep it up man you’re making quality stuff. Just got a 90 535i so I really appreciate your thorough videos on this engine.
@@maxcowley4353 after I’m done restoring it not a whole lot, because I bought it already having bc racing coilovers and a cat back exhaust. But I would love to put in a performance camshaft and itb’s to really bring out the b35’s full potential without any forced induction due to it having over 200k on the clock
@@marcoscabrera3804 yeah, mine needs a bit of a tidy up as well. Do you know specifically which BC coil overs it has? I’m looking to get some for my own since it’s currently on stock suspension. An NA build for the b35 seems like the way to go, mine is sitting on about 260xxxkm
@@maxcowley4353 the coilovers I have are the bc racing I-28BR. Personally I really like them, they don’t feel too compromising while keeping body roll to a minimum. The b35 is a wonderful engine that’s plenty of fun so keeping it classy with an NA build seems right to me.
Hey Josh, the comments you made about the starter made my day. Recently had a month long engine bay battle to remove the one stuck to my M30B28. I decided to removed the intake manifold, which was almost impossible with this stupid EGR valve hanging underneath. Then custom made a shallow tapered socket to remove the starter bolts ..but what a job. A few times I thought about scrapping the whole car. I fully understand now why there are so few E28s still driving around. I hope those BMW engineers got a good earbashing from the service mechanics of the time.
About to paint my block! Donor M30 was bought after my stock had multiple cracks due to a botched HG job in its past life. These videos are great to watch as I’m in the same spot/boat getting my 535/5 back on the road. Cheers!
Thank you for the very amazing and detailed M30B35 content Josh! Will be using this video when assembling the engine for my gals 735i that did the usual M30 thing and broke 2 rockers 🙃
At the exact same stage with the same process on an M90 (based on an m30). It was nice watching someone else do it, convinced me to go ahead with the vapor blasting.
I appreciate you making these m30 conversion/rebuild videos. As I am going to convert my e28 525i to a 535i myself. Keep up the good work! Helps a lot!
You are paying great attention to detail. Congrats. I leave in Greece and i have an e30 and i really want to put a 6cylinder lump inside but because of tax thru almost exclusively came with 4pots... An M30 would be ideal. Greetings from Greece.i Love what you do.
Love this build! Seems like nobody makes videos with m30 content. I have an m30b35 swapped e30 and just pulled my motor out to do a refresh and standalone ecu/ custom harness!!
Those vapour honed parts look amazing, indistinguishable from brand new! Glad you used some wood to support the hanging end of that engine, it looked pretty precarious! Glad to see you wearing PPE too, safety at all times dude, eyes and lungs are precious. Great camera work and nicely angled shot. Yup, a satisfying episode! 😉👍 Peace! 🙏
Seeing this makes me want to start my m30b35 turbo build in my e28 I have the engine and transmission just dont have the resources to rebuild the engine at the moment. I love that you are sharing this and are doing a ITB set up I considered that route as well but have never owned a turbo car before which is why im going the turbo route. I hope your build turns out to be everything you want it to be and can't wait to see you put it back together. If you could make a detailed video of that process that would be such a huge guide for me because I got a b35 out of a 735i and my e28 has the b34 engine so i know the mounting points are different and some of the other things.
I have the entire series coming out on my channel! The video before this talks about all the parts needed and how things will fit including the mounting points, etc!
When I did my starter, I needed help from two friends, all three of us experienced mechanics. Had to pull the coolant expansion tank and move the power steering reservoir to get all the EGR crap out of the way to pull the manifold to get at the starter. By the time it was all said and done, we'd come to the conclusion that pulling the motor would have been faster, required fewer bolts, and I could have really got a good clean going while I was at it. Second worst "simple" repair is getting at that power steering gearbox imo.
what i did when i junked my factory starter for the b35 one was using the factory toolkit in the trunk. i have multiple sockets and ratchets and wrenches and literally nothing but the oem bmw tools fit which fucking sucked cuz i almost gouged my eye out on the trunk corner.
@@m3nameisjosh464 looks odd though, the starter you pulled looks like the bigger body one which is confusing. i thought all b35s came with the smaller starter (those are way easier to remove and shit). was it an sr41x? or an sr441x
In the process of m30b35 swapping my e30 touring at the moment so these videos have come just at the right time to keep me motivated on that. Really looking forward to seeing how your one turns out, keep the good stuff coming! Out of curiousity what bolts did you use to mount the engine to the stand? Nervous about getting the wrong ones for mine when I mount it and it engine up on the floor
Thanks man! That’ll be an awesome e30!! But i took 4 bellhousing bolts and matched them at hardware store. 2 M8s and 2 M10s I think. Just make sure they are longer than actual bellhousing bolts. Mine are 50-60mm, can’t remember off top of head. M30s use sketchily skinny bolts for top of bellhousing so its sketchy putting these on stands
Great job josh 👍👍👍👍👍👍 What did you do for the whole engine refresh ie New gaskets, seals, head gasket, etc Did you get the injectors serviced or buy new ones etc etc Can you list everything you did on the M30b35 engine Please As I will asking my mechanic to do. This on my engine over the winter months And he's not familiar with the M30 block, he's a ford guy
I was researching for days between the options and this method is part of a kit they offer and have a buddy who’s personally used it and recommended. Im not sure when the engine enamel comes in if they offer this too. Kind of confusing
Such engine design is because bmw uses old engine witch very high profile in thin new cars at that years and it caused to slightly turn right engine asymmetric.
What engine would it be for 1986 BMW 735i (E23)? Needs a Camshaft because the peak lobe is worn (less than 50K, always serviced by BMW). What a piece of a junk car built by the German.
