Having done the same myself last year I am envious to see you do this now as I really enjoyed the process. The hard work is definitely in the base and concreting but once that is done it’s quick progress to build the wooden garage. I see you are ordering from a company and I made my own garage from timber. Both have pros and cons but I’m exciting for you George. Please get the concrete in as soon as possible before bad weather affects your founds and debris fills up your channels.

Don’t forget to put a new MDPE mains water pipe in from the road pipe to your house.. massive regret of mine that I didn’t do it whilst I had the chance (changed the driveway to block paving)
@GeorgeAusters
@GeorgeAusters 10 дней назад
Why do you need to change the mains water pipe?
@markturner2058
@markturner2058 9 дней назад
@@GeorgeAusters increase the pressure / flow of the water coming into the entire property. Makes showering much better, but also your likely to have a lead mains water pipe coming from the roadside / meter into your house, it’s not good for you to drink from that long term, the lead will also bend / compress / fail at some point also… if you’ve got the digger then for the sake of a few hours work and the cost of the pipe being so little, I would do it. Yorkshire water for example even come and connect the roadside point for you FOC if you ask them! Honestly big regret I didn’t do mine when I had the chance, still bugs me now years later, was just an oversight as I was too busy doing water, power, internet into the garage and then big rush to get the block paving done ! And if I was doing it again I’d put an outside tap at the very front of the property too as that’s were I wash them, current one is at the back of the house and pulling the hose pipe round is a pain in the backside when I look back and think how easy it would have been to put one at the front all that time ago!

Nice work George! Make sure you backfill properly behind the formwork. Use high chair wire spacers to hold up the A393 mesh. Is there any reinforcement in the trenches? I visualise this as an edge beam raft with steel rebar beams in the trenches. I recommend you use self compacting concrete then you will not have to worry about getting it level. The mesh needs to be near the top of the concrete on a ground bearing raft. Looking forward to the next stage. And get some proper boots - concrete burns are really nasty!
@GeorgeAusters
@GeorgeAusters Месяц назад
Thanks will! Yes I was thinking of back filling with hardcore but not too much as I may struggle to remove the shuttering afterwards. The specs I have been given is to have the a393 mesh supported by 50mm chairs. I haven't been given any info regarding mesh in the trenches so I assumed no mesh was required there

Hi George, good news that you got planning permission, that's a big step for sure. My Garage base is 30 sq. m., I opted to lay it myself, NEVER again. My shuttering looked stronger than yours and it was nowhere near strong enough, you cannot underestimate the weight and power of concrete. I hope it goes OK for you. What are your plans for the damp proofing of the base?
@GeorgeAusters
@GeorgeAusters Месяц назад
Thanks Bob! The DPM is a 1200 gauge visqueen
@FiscalWoofer
@FiscalWoofer Месяц назад
If you fully back fill the shuttering it will be fine, otherwise it’s going to bow and deform, not what you want… also you don’t want it sinking at all, so just test it if it can hold your weight then it will stay level, if not you should block under the ply to the base it so you pull level

That’s an easy concrete pull, don’t sweat it big G! Cut those post tops off and hire either a manual mag bar 7m or so, or a vibra screed bar, once that concrete is pumped in, you can manual pull / cut it across level if you want a bit of a work out or vibra screed if you want really tight. It’s not that big of a slab, really, but if your calcs are bang on it’s 3 truck loads, and ideally that should be back on back so you can consolidate it in a few full passes. When are you doing the pour?
@GeorgeAusters
@GeorgeAusters Месяц назад
Yeah I’ve been looking into the power screeners but not sure if they work for the thickness I need? I’ll be doing the pour when I have the funds.. This all costed a lot more than I expected plus I get married next month so I’ll have to save for a while or get some cars sold to raise some funds👍🏻
