@@kianstorr8878 1. The more you do it the better you will get, it’s good to continue practicing every now and then to ensure you don’t start getting worse. 2. Record yourself and/or get an app for pitch and other voice stats. 3. Nothing should hurt; try warming up and drinking water. Don’t strain or it will become a habit.
This video was SO helpful! It's really helping me hone in on the control of my vocal cords, something I thought I had absolutely no control over. Thank you!
finally a video where someone talks about what you ACTUALLY do while talking. there are lots of videos that do explain the science behind the voice, but when it comes to practice they just give you some mental model about what you should think of so your body does what you want them to do, well how am I going to troubleshoot with that? you on the other hand actually explained what muscles I use and how I should use them. I'm guessing after some practice controlling the vocal folds properly will feel as natural as controlling your hand movements Thank you, you helped me out alot!
@@NewYorkVocalCoaching Please add chapters to this series, as I am sure many of us will rewatch these videos often and not need the introduction every time
4:10 had me holding my breath for ten seconds ahaha but this video is amazing i can't wait to learn the 6 components and hopefully brighten up moods with random voices
Brendan does some of the best exercises and we're glad you're enjoying them @Lucas Prats! Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss any more of his amazing content! -NYSC
If anyone remembers the voice where only a subtle amount of sound passes through causing the voice to sound strained and distressed. I always found doing that to be a heck of a challenge because it requires the right compression. Compress them too much it interrupts the vocal cord airflow by squeezing the gate way. Don’t compress them enough and it’ll just sound like an average compressed voice. Always hurt my throat trying to do that so I take a break and stop after a few attempts. Certain performances involved with character voices sure strain your throat a lot
Thanks so much! How do we incorporate these into our singing where there’s actually words or does it just come naturally once we practiced these techniques?
We're so glad you enjoyed it and found it useful @Miss Phoenix! If you haven't already, make sure to subscribe so you don't miss any more amazing videos! -NYSC
So I’ve been trying to learn how to manipulate my voice for a while now including vocal cry growls you know all that good stuff but I’ve only been able to inward growl, gutter roll and scream. The second you said I would be able to vocal fry and make that crackling noise I tried and was able to do it for the first time ever I was tripping out like wow dude I did not know the exercises i’m really could give you a wide range to work with like that I honestly thought it was like first simply not straining your voice or damaging it
When I was doing the third exercise my mom Thought there was a ghost in the house lol! But ur video helps the most! Thank u so much for the video ~ from a 12 year old
I was able to do a more than decent Mickey Mouse voice and now I want to do voice acting as a hobby. This is a great start to a possible future career. From another 12 year old.
My voice tends to crack a lot on the voice wave, and occasionally on the decompression/compression power slides... Do you have any tips for avoiding this, or just keep practicing? P.S. Thanks for all the helpful videos! I've been learning a lot from them
I think it might be because your running out of breath later in the exercise so try to take deeper breaths or maybe try raising or lowering the pitch of the hum slower These are just guesses, they may not work.
If the sore throat persists, make sure to see a doctor or ENT. Brendan is wonderful and these videos are wonderful for normal practice, but with injuries, it is wise to see a professional to help you out @Tumour. -NYSC
We're so glad you found it useful @Jacob Garces Marquez! Make sure to subscribe, if you haven't already, so you don't miss any more wonderful videos! -NYSC
Hi Brendan!! Thanks a lot for doing these Component Focus series, you are giving us great value!! Thanks! I need them for my singing most of all! I have a question I just watch your new video about the larynx (Component Focus #2), in which you said that the larynx isn’t a pitch changer, which I totally agree with you, but in Exercise #3 at 7:30 when you show us how to do the exercises with decompressed, compressed and vocal fry sounds I saw you raised your larynx, of course this video was before your new one about the larynx, so I’m assuming that now we should do exercise #3 without raising the larynx, am I right??
Keep practicing @The Aprentice and you'll get there! Make sure to subscribe so you can watch all of our videos and don't miss any of our new videos! -NYSC
This video was sooooo insightful! THANK YOU! I am really looking forward to the next videos in the series. I am a singer and really helpful to know how to isolate and control each component! This compliments Justin’s videos brilliantly!
Hi @Sophie Matzke! We're so glad you liked our video! For vocal fry, try watching these videos that our owner, Justin Stoney, created about vocal fry: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WVEDc466XvI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dbym1oVNIfg.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7EIHRlk2JwA.html If those still don't help, we'll see if we can clarify it for you more :) -NYSC
Is it possible to break down the exercises like doing a normal pitch and going to a high pitch and back down to a normal pitch till I can control my high pitch. And once I succeed doing high pitch I switch to normal and low pitch. And then combine I both high and low pitch
Dear New York speech coaching my name is Dom and I watched the video on this video on how control the vocal cords but I didn’t quite understand how to tighten the vocal cords with vocal cord compression Brendan could you please tell me some different ways to tighten the vocal cords with vocal cord compression please write back to me I would really appreciate this from you Brendan your biggest voice acting / voice impressions fan Dom
The fact that this channel is so underrated is HUH? Hi Brendon, Remenber me? Im the one that you recommended here to revisit Palpatine's voice! I DID IT! I just need practice with the laugh and Im good! Thanks Appreciate It! :D Also why does your signings differ to: -NYSC -NYVC idk just found it weird. Bye!
Hi @Icegond! We're so glad that you found the videos useful and accomplished being able to replicate Palpatine's voice! For the signings, NYSC stands for New York Speech Coaching, which is the organization Brendan works for, and NYVC stands for New York Vocal Coaching, which is the parent company of NYSC , which is run by Justin Stoney. So because these voice impressions come from Brendan, we label them as NYSC now :) -NYSC
