I completely forgot to mention one of the cool things with the guitar solo, specifically how he brought the band back in after his solo. In jazz settings you'll often have some inter-band playing where the rhythm section listens into repetitions in the solo and will add flourishes to their own playing to emphasize the soloists ideas and I felt that same kind of cooperative energy in the end of the guitar solo when the band started to come back in while the guitar was playing that riff, right before he started walking down the guitar neck to return to the lower notes at the end of his solo. It was obviously composed this way but it was still really cool and just another way that these guys blend jazzy techniques into their more rock oriented segments.

I've noticed in most of the live stuff I've seen that Tom Monda likes to change up his solos. Very much a jazz style of a different solo everytime he plays. These guys know their music, and work so well together

Listening to the studio version will give you a bit of a different experience since Tom always improvises live solos.

The guitarists of Thank You Scientist have always struck me as being excellent. There's a lot of time they blend in the background and you can barely hear them, but then they take front stage in the mix and just kill it! The songs "Pigeon Superstition" by Bird Problems and "The City Has No Empathy" by Caligula's Horse remind me a lot of TYS' style of guitar work, but with a heavier edge to it, more "modern" I guess we'd call it.

I very much loved this song. I can understand why a lot of people don't like this guys voice but I thought it worked very well with what this song was doing. Also the work of the violin, brass, and his voice was incredible. I'd would really like to see you check out Between the Buried and Me - The Coma Machine. That song is very different from what a lot of their stuff is and just a really cool journey. I knew you'd love this one. This is simply one of the best prog songs of the decade. They have a lot of great stuff, and all of their albums (plus EP) are worthwhile, but this is their masterpiece. I think the word you're looking for at 14:34 is "contrast," or perhaps it's the expectation-and-surprise dichotomy we talked about on the last TYS vid. FWIW, I do slightly prefer the studio version to this live version, though I'm glad to have both. I just think the recording/mixing and guitar solo is a bit better on the studio version. If you dig the jazzy aspect of this, I'd highly recommend checking out An Eye for an Eye for an Eye by The Sea Within, which is a prog supergroup.

I consider TYS one of the best modern prog bands. I think you woudn't be disappointed giving this entire album (Terraformer) a listen. It's a different approach vs. the previous one - that cotains the song "Caverns". I am aware that you already have your list of priorities, but if you will be picking new bands to react to - please consider these as options: Karnivool (song: Deadman), Cynic (song: King Of Those Who Know), Monuments (song: I, The Destroyer), Textures (song: Illuminate The Trail), Scale The Summit (track: Alpenglow), Nevermore (song: The River Dragon Has Come), Death (song: Lack Of Comprehension), Necrophagist (entire Epitaph album, it's only 28 min :P). Also anything by Snarky Puppy or Zildjian Live series (preferably featuring Larnell Lewis or Kaz Rodriguez). If you plan to revisit one of the bands listed below: -The Contortionist, I suggest the song "Clairvoyant" either that or entire Language album, which for me is the best sh*t, I've ever heard, -Beyond Creation - many ppl suggested the song "Earthborn Evolution", but I actually suggest checking out "Neurotical Transmissions" (from the same album), -Intervals - consider the track "Epiphany" - a pinnacle of their djent era, -Animals As Leaders - I think either Crescent or Para Mexer should be more "musical" than what you've experienced so far :P, -Haken - Cockroach King. Sorry for the lengthy post.

Nice video! I wonder how you would react and analyze the music Car Bomb makes. Here are some descriptions of a few of their songs if you choose to react to one of them. The first one is off Meta and the others are from their newest release Mordial. - Gratitude is the easiest to get into - Dissect Yourself is the most “react-able” and has its own music video. - Xoxoy has multiple vocals and has the most noticeable attitude shift/s - Blackened Battery is the grooviest (guitar player has a live play-through video, but doesn’t feature vocals) -Antipatterns is the most cinematic I wonder what your perspective will be considering all the dichotomies Car Bomb displays in their music and will be excited to learn from your insight. Cheers

I LOVED this. A masterfully written song. I'd like to be honest, and hopefully people don't flame me too much for this, but I feel like their vocalist is.... lacking. I feel like his range lacking. I need to listen to more as this is my first song listen of theirs. But there are so many times where the song is in a crescendo and building and he just kinda peeters out. He just kinda stays in this one pocket and never really ventures out of it. But overall an amazing song and band.

You should also check out FXMLDR, from the same album. If you want, you can see them perform it live. The album version itself is nice (it sounds very organic) but thought you might like to see it live to follow the trend started here. :P ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rxrz6RPSww0.html For something less jazzy, and not very influenced by rock I would also be interested to see you try out Myrath.
