Fun fact: not only was this composed by Nobuo, but it's also his favorite work to this day in the Final Fantasy franchise He poured his heart and soul in this entire soundtrack, that's why it's so fun and well put together
I personally consider FFIX ost to be his best work, overall. Not that other FF OSTs aren't great - and there are certainly a number of standouts. But FFIX is consistently brilliant.
@@TheSorrowfulAngel For me it's a pretty close call between IX and VI. I will usually give the edge to VI though, because of a few reasons. -Themes for each of the 14 playable characters (a rather large cast for the time the game released... and granted Edgar and Sabin share a theme), each of which perfectly encapsulates each character perfectly, even when it doesn't seem like it at first (Gau). Not to mention Kefka --To go along with that, they were all woven into such a brilliant medley in Balance is Restored. Absolutely brilliant -Opera. I don't think much needs to be said there. -Dancing Mad is an absolutely astounding piece of composition. Set aside how good it is. The fact that Uematsu made a multi-movement piece for a multi-part fight with no looping (until the end of the 3rd movement) is bold if nothing else, and could have been tragic. But he pulled it off brilliantly Don't get me wrong, I think IX's is brilliant too. But I think especially given the limitations that were still there in the SNES era, VI has the edge for me. And I cannot wait for the Pixel Remaster of VI only for the soundtrack
@@ALeafOnTheWind42 The one thing where I give the edge to IX is the mentioned limitations. While it is impressive how he worked around the limitations in Vi, they are ultimately still limitations. Limitations are not a positive, but a negative quality. But overall, I got to agree with you: It's a damn close call between Vi and IX.
@@TheSorrowfulAngel I don't think it's fair to count limitations against it though, because there's nothing that can be done about it. I think you can have to make judgments taking the limitations into account... For example, when we get the Pixel Remaster and we get the orchestrated soundtrack free from the limitations: if you would then consider it the best, I personally think it should have been considered the best all along Still, I certainly can't fault anyone for choosing IX as their favorite soundtrack, so in the end it's a bit of a moot discussion
@@ALeafOnTheWind42 As mentioned, working around limitations is impressive - but still, limitations usually hold things back at the end of the day. After all, that's what they do. While limitation can stimulate the creative drive, you are still ending with a worse result than it should be, cause you have to cut corners. But yeah, the discussion is pretty much moot, especially cause I am not even really inclined to disagree with you in the first place xD
YAAAAAAAS KUJA i'm begging you to do "Liberi Fatali" from Final Fantasy VIII and "To Zanarkand (Distant Worlds version)" from Final Fantasy X. Two of the most iconic tracks in the franchise for a very good reason. Do it for yourself.
FFVIII has hands down the best FF intro. Music and visuals are so well combined. To Zanarkand is sooo good as well, so sad and it cuts your heart every time.
So one fun fact is that, apparently, IX was Uematsu's favorite soundtrack in the FF series. And yeah, it's a pretty good one. Speaking of Uematsu, man I'd love it if you took a look at Roar of the Departed Souls from Lost Odyssey.
I was hoping you would review this one! Although, I wished you had listened to Kuja's Theme first, then Immoral Melody, and then Dark Messenger. These songs are one in the same but they evolve as the game progresses
FF9 was released in 1999 on the PS1. You nailed it with you your story. This is a battle theme for the primary antagonist, a Mystical Arms Dealer sewing the seeds of war across nations to steal the worlds life's force by staging wars and then syphoning life energy before it springs fourth as new life. The intro to the song is the intro to the battle. You've seen this character, but here you finally face them. The Queen percussion isnt the audience of the Wrestling match clapping along, but your spot on. It represents the artificial soldiers marching at his command, and the world leaders hes been controlling some literally as puppets. You nailed with the intent to command attention. The changes were to keep the song fresh because as you can listen, its on a loop, this is song you'll be lsitening to for at least 10 minutes, and realistically over and over again if you die. You also nailed it with the Occult rock aesthetic. Our antagonist is more Hair metal, but theres nothing more gnarly as killing the world and draining its life force to feed your own. But unlike Black Sabbath, Uematsu and Square doesn't portray these evil actors as ugly snarling beasts but beautiful pristeen rulers.
FF8 is a highly underrated game and I think the main reason for that is that the draw system can be tedious for many, but the story of the game is amazing, and the music throughout the entire game is absolutely top notch. The opening theme is called Liberi Fatali and according to another video, the words that the chorus sings during that are: The phrase "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec" is an anagram of the phrases "Succession of Witches" and "Love", two of the main themes in the game, and not an actual phrase in Latin. I highly recommend checking out the entire soundtrack to that game (as well as playing the game), but some of my highlights are: Liberi Fatali (Opening Theme) The Landing (Dollet Assault Theme) Succession of Witches The Stage Is Set Lunatic Pandora The Castle The Extreme (Final Boss Encounter) You can definitely hear how themes are re-contextualized in different tracks (primarily the sorceress' theme). The game has some really great "town music", my favorite being the Dollet Town Theme. Another great track is the "Waltz to the Moon" which you can also hear themes represented from the fantastic FF8 song "Eyes on Me". Honestly the game has so much great music it's really hard to leave stuff out lol.
Yeah, FFVIII is probably the most controversal entry of the main series. However, it is my favorite one. The story, the characters and it's Soundtrack are just amazing. I would say, the other Final Fantasy's like FFVII or FFX have the more "iconic" tracks, but just a few, like 3 to 5 or whatever, of their tracks are considered this status. 7 has One-Winged Angel, Jenova, Bombing Mission, 10 has To Zanarkand, of course. 6 has Dancing Mad and Terras Theme. Etc. Those games have more great tracks, but mostly, the rest of their tracks is good, but not *this* great. FFVIII, on the other hand, has the biggest amount of great tracks, the list goes on and on, but they are less talked about because the game is so controversal due to it's junction system. If one counts the whole Soundtrack list and not just one or two, then FFVIII has the best Soundtrack of the series. At least, that's how I see it.
@WorldGoneMad Well, that's why I said "probably"... And I never played FF13, so I can't really tell. But from what I heard about it, most people seem to think it is just bad. So for me, FF8 is the most controversal one even when FF13 exists.
FF8 is a great game if you get past the grindiness of the junction system, though I think one of the plot twists puts a bit of damper on the story bcus of how forced it felt. But still, there's so much to love about its story, music and characters that you gotta respect it - like the majority of ff games it's a masterpiece in its own right \○/
Demon's Souls Ost- Maiden Astraea's theme. The original (Playstation 3) AND the remake version (Playstation 5). It'd be cool to see a comparison video where you do both tracks in 1 video. Also the Flamelurker Theme for Demon's Souls original, and remake is AMAZING too!
That was a great analysis. Loved how you connected the wrestling theme with the track. The slow transition is heavily reminiscent of Tyranno Lair from Chrono Trigger, which is a track Uematsu composed as well.
This was my favourite game and my favourite music. The fact that this was recommended to me was one of RU-vid's best recommendation so far. Subscribed.
I would love to see you react to "The extreme" from FF VIII and "Twilight of the gods" from fire emblem echoes: shadow of valentia (This one is a remake of an NES track, so it would be nice if you compare the remake and the original)
OH YES, The Extreme is so awesome! I feel it often gets pushed aside by Dancing Mad and One Winged Angel, plus of course VIII is not as popular as VI or VII, but it can stand on its own, no problem.
Allegedly this was Nobuo Uematsu’s personal favorite soundtrack of all the games he worked on. You wouldn’t think from this track alone that the game it comes from has a high fantasy storybook aesthetic...
This is my favorite song from Final Fantasy IX and I'm really glad you reviewed it! It's very impressive that all of your guesses were correct, it's a rock-influenced character theme by Nobuo from the PS1 era :) If you enjoy his more synthetic tracks, you might like his song "Fight with Seymour" from Final Fantasy X, which is another one of my personal favorites
If you want the ultimate metal track made by Nobuo, it's definitely Otherworld from FFX. That track takes everybody off guard. It's a track you should definitely do eventually.
Ok Atlas enough is enough, I cannot simply stand by and watch you react to all these amazing soundtracks without recommending a game with some of the best boss themes. Please if you get the chance give a listen to “The only thing I know for real.” From the Metal Gear Rising OST Honestly I’d recommend any of the boss themes but this one is a favorite
Ahhh. You've done an FFIX react! [my username is from the game haha ] I can't believe I haven't seen it until now. I hope you do more from the series. As always I adore witnessing your reactions and anticipate your feedback!
Great video as always. I see a lot of people doing requests, and I hope you don’t take it like we don’t respect you or your decisions, I’m sure most of them just want to know your reaction on their favorite ost. Keep the good content
I am interested to hear his reaction to more FF music. I have to say that IV-IX were the inspirations that made me want to compose music. I haven't done much with it yet but I am hoping to change that very shortly since I have been writing music since high school but haven't done anything with it yet and it's starting to bug me.
Loved ff9 this is one of my fav songs in the game..this game has so many good songs...this song is the second to last battle in the game against the main antagonist kuja...there is another song during the final battle against necron which is a crazy song maybe u can listen to it someday
Nice reaction as always! FFIX has some of the best music in the franchise. I recommend “Fight With Seymour” from FX. It’s one of the best head bangers of a boss battle theme there is.
Hmm, if I may put in an idea. Octopath Traveler has some very good music. 3 tracks that come to mind are; Decisive Battle 2, Battle at Journey's End, and probably one of the best Final Boss OST's in memory; Daughter of the Dark God. I would recommend any of these tracks. You wont regret it. :)
On the version of this OST I have, this is called "The Darkness of Eternity" so it scared me at first because I thought the version I had was missing a song.
Yeah, I dont know, why but some themes have several names. I remember the one that sounds when you meet freya on lindblum industrial district, its called both "out of the fryin pan" & "a problem solved"
Love your FF ost reviews ! I can only advise you to hear some Legend of Heroes ost :) Unfathomed Force, Azure Arbitrator, Great Power, Celestial Coalescence and Spiral of Erebos are some of my favourites from these videogames
As soon as i saw this i screamed. Dark Messenger is my favorite FF Boss theme so glad you reacted to it. You should check out Place of Memory(Memoria Theme) and The Evil Mist's Rebirth(the second world map theme) from Final Fantasy IX. Both are two of my other favorites from the game never really get mentioned that much. I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.
I honestly can’t believe you did a reaction video to FFIX, which I’m currently replaying for the first time in a WHILE with my girlfriend. Hearing this OST really gives me hella goosebumps and nostalgia as well as hearing your inputs towards this gem is refreshing. If I could recommend another, would you be able to listen to The Landing (FF8 OST) and react? Looking forward to more videos from you. Keep doing your thing
Please react to "Vagrant story's - Climax of the Graylands Incident" or "Metal Gear Solid's - Rex's Lair" or "Cavern". I promise you'll fall in love. Thank you.
i would love to see ur reaction to the song almighty bhunivelza from ff13-3 lightning returns ... its a cluster fuck, but still great its 13 min long tho ...
I hope you react to Jenova Quickening from Final Fantasy VII Remake. It's soooo good! (But there's no official version on Yt, it is on iTunes though) BTW Dark Messenger is the theme of second-to-last boss of FFIX. Heavy metal riffage.
Trance Kuja was a pain in my ass to fight. But listening to this song made it worth it. One of my personal favorite songs from the FF franchise. Really enjoyed your reaction and thoughts.
Regarding your question at 23:00 , I double-checked, and Final Fantasy IX was released July 7th, 2000. It was on the Playstation 1, at the time that it was on the way out (the PS2 was released just 4 months prior). It's considered a bit of a black sheep of the series, not just for the hardware, but also for its style & tone. It was more light-hearted, comedic, and drew from more medieval fantasy; while FF7 & FF8 were more serious, grim, and had more sci-fi elements. Regardless, it has a cult following, is among the highest rated, and is a personal favorite of the series creator (Hironobu Sakaguchi) and the composer (Nobuo Umetsu) as well!
I would love to see a reaction to the song U.N.Owen was her from Touhou 6, the embodiment of scarlet devil. Song is pretty iconic, even to those who don't know about Touhou.
This is a great piece of music, one of my favorite tracks from my favorite soundtracks. Final Fantasy IX is in my opinion one of the greatest games of all time, and the soundtrack proves it. I think what I love about this track is yes it's obviously a major headbanger and rock is just a great genre for a final boss theme (okay, final showdown with main villain theme) but I also kind of like how it throws you off guard - Kuja is for the most part an elegant, soft spoken, feminine, more underhand kinda villain (at least, that's how he presents himself to hide his front of emotional immaturity, insanity and a suicidal cosmic temper tantrum) , and this sounds more suited to like a super loud, masculine, rocking, musclebound villain. So when you suddenly hear this it gives an insight to just how dangerous and unpredictable Kuja has become, but at the same time it's not too jarring because it has a really nice touch of adding in Kuja's lietmotifs (the opening comes from one of his main pieces of music called Immoral Melody) and those long five notes at 4:11 are his most consistent recurring theme), so it still suits the character. To me it hits all the marks - it's a banger on it's own, it makes a great soundtrack to your final showdown with a sinister bad guy, and also mixes both the bad guy's normal music with something completely new to showcase how much greater a threat he is - the one who has made your life Hell the entire game has gone completely insane, become a planet level threat, and is now an omnicidal, terrified lunatic - here's some music to get you pumped, go kick his ass.
Hey there, I recently discovered your channel from the dark souls 3 videos and it's great to have reaction about games ost and I thank you for that! I have one idea for you maybe you will find it good. Maybe you could look the part you are reacting to, for exemple the video on darkeater midir, just looking what the boss looks like or maybe the arena. After a first listening to the music or after idk what's best but it could add substance to your commentary by knowing what you are going up against in that exemple. Once again thanks for the content and hope you'll find the comment useful !
From darkeater to Ludwig ,lt is no exaggeration to say that they are the most powerful and epic boss song, and I love your reaction and precise analysis, hoping that you can make an episode for starcraft2 liberty of wings main theme!!! (7:14)
I would love to hear your opinion on "Rapid as Wildfires" from Genshin Impact (you can even include orchestra recording video for extra oomph). It looks like everyone, who knows it - loves it. But i just cannot find anyone react to it. It's quite an unusual piece, which combine conventional orchestra instruments with traditional Chinese ones. The result is astounding)
Someone recommend this guy Molgera's theme on patreon, specifically the version of it from Hyrule Warriors. I don't have the money to be doing that. Honestly, I think he would enjoy most of the music from that game. It seems right up his alley.
Loved this song. Hoping to see a reaction to music from Falcom's games. Gurumin, Trials in the Sky and Ys all have amazing soundtracks (though Gurumin has the most unique soundtrack of the games they made). I'd love to see Half-Minute Hero 2 as well (not Falcom though), but that's probably too niche. The soundtrack is composed by an all-star cast of famous Japanese gaming composers though. I can't think of any game with so much Japanese composer talent behind it and that's reflected in the quality.
Fun fact time lol. This is well not the final boss theme but it might as well be as its the main antagonists final fight. FF9 if you ever ask Nobuo will say that FF9 is his favorite OST of all the FF's. He lovea rock music and this track is very easy to tell the rock influence. FF9's OST is also very long clocking in at 119 tracks (if my memory is serving me right lol). I like this track because its like "the final form" of the main battle theme and it just grooves along being headbanging but also foreboding. Great Video as always. I always find your breakdowns and thoughts very interesting. I alao like how you bounce around between all kinds of media and types of music. Great work 👍
I remember the first time i played against this boss, i just let him kill me over and over just to keep listening to this masterpiece again and again.. x)
i would love it if you could react to some music from the grand strategy games by paradox interactive. the music sets the tone for those games so well. my personal suggestions would be riding the solar wind from stellaris and Knights of Jerusalem from crusader kings 3. each soundtrack is incredible but these 2 pieces really stand out to me.
Look dude, I know you already did some dark souls and bloodborne but I NEED to see your reaction to Yohrm the giant's theme or slave Knight gael. Also, the channel you were listening on the DS and BB soundtracks uploads incomplete versions that just loop a part without doing the whole thing. There's this guy called whereismyspoon and he has the complete versions uploaded on youtube.
i´ll just wait until it covers the 10 canonical games so once he step on dissidia and duodecim reviews the reworked vers. and cantata mortis & god of fire
Could you react to 'Monster Hunter World: Iceborne - Fatalis Medley'? It's a fantastic piece from the game that literally sent shivers down my back for 3 hours straight when fighting the monster in-game.
