He's not reading the lyrics. So he will not understand the change in the second verse. He's also more focused on the instrumentations and not the vocals or the background choir. He also wants to produce. 😁 his own type of music.

Also really enjoyed you breaking down the chords :) I would definitely agree that the visuals and dancing play a big part in the song - Jimin is a contemporary dancer who went to school for it and likes creating comprehensive pieces that tell a story through all aspects. I'm not sure if you had the lyrics turned on while watching the MV but the song is essentially Jimin breaking free from the shackles of the own negative parts of his brain that were driving him into madness to be "free" - the autotune sections are essentially the darker parts of his psyche arguing with the sane part. If you pay attention under the autotune you can still hear him changing his vocal delivery and texture to an extremely angry persona in the second part. I understand differences in opinion on effectiveness of delivery though haha ☺️ I personally thought it worked really well and interpreted the similar chord structure after the chaos with the choir at the beginning as symbolic of how depressive feelings sound in your head sometimes screaming and driving you insane and sometimes dulling you down. Jimin has his first solo debut album called Face coming out on the 24th of March if you wanna check that out! I also think you might like Lie also by Jimin. It has a similar orchestral feel but with far more variations in chord structure and is a really musically interesting song overall.
This song is eerily epic! I love everything about it. There's nothing needed to be added to song. Simple song doesn't mean bad song and not all song have to be complicated to become a good song. The auto tune is inserted artistically /a style choice not because he needs help with his vocals but because it helps tell the story of this song, it drama. Auto tune in different sections help tell the story, layering of vocals with different sounds now comes as different Jimin talking to each other.
Jimin is purposeful with the chaos in the choreo. The voice treatments. The lyrics. He’s showing frustration. Jimin is very visual. This is more of a performance. Sometimes music makes us feel raw. Annoyed. This is not a soothing purpose. But Jimin is very good at that too.
Taste is subjective and I respect your opinion, however, to me this song is like an anthem and fits with his message perfectly. I play this recently when I was stressed af. The sound is catchy and the repetition is like a a continuous call, or plea, or shout to set him free. This is performance art. It expresses, simply in dance, the message both emotionally and with clarity. All in all, it’s a thumbs up for me.

Agree. I wish all reactors would just enjoy the first time through. You will never get to experience it that way ever again. Then go back with your analysis the second time through. Many songs don't deserve 2 passes, but I believe this one does. Well, maybe 30 passes! Love it! Love the choreography! The dance practice shows how fast their arms are moving. Easier to see in that light. Love the poem by Rilke. They should have sent everyone the poem beforehand so some aren't trying to read it off his skin. Thanks to Jimin for creating a masterpiece. Personally I love this song and the way the autotune is used to show different sides of Jimin's personality and inner struggles, it's almost as though he is conversing with himself. The autotuned parts are going viral on twitter for dance sequences...
Was really interesting hearing a composer's take on this performance video. If it was strictly just a song, I might agree with your opinions about it, but this is a performance video. We already know that Jimin has vocal talent, which is manifested throughout the video. The use of auto tune was artistically placed because Jimin is telling a very personal story with this performance, and the places where he chose to use auto tune were carefully and strategically chosen for specific purposes. You obviously can't be expected to know that so we forgive what some may consider harsh criticism. ;) Everyone is entitled to their opinion and difference in preferences so I totally respect your point of view. But I'm going on record as saying I found solo Jimin's performance video to be outstandingly entertaining, even given its repetitive nature. I look forward to more of his performance artistry. Peace.

Também a acho perfeita, e não é por não entendemos de música que temos essa opinião, já vi a reação de vários produtores americanos, canadense, australiano, chileno, japonês, alemão, e até um russo e todos explicaram muito bem essas questões que ele levanta, e não estou tentando inválida a opinião dele, ao longo de 4 anos assistindo reação notei que tem aquelas pessoas que não conhece o bts e os ver como uma típica boybad muito pop, e aqueles que os vem como kpop jamais se permitiram ver o que eram e acham que não passa de danças ensaiadas, muita gente, muita cor, e música barulhenta, acho que ele se encaixa no último pelo seu comentário de que o foco era a dança, repito ele parece ser um ótimo profissional mas vejo que seu pre - conceito tem peso em como ele avalia o que está vendo.

Yeah, you definitely are no dancer lol. You can have your opinion of course, but I don't understand why people who have no expertise in dance try to critique it technically. I am a dancer - they were not loose, nor is the choreography easy to pull off. They are top professionals, and BTS is known for holding a very high standard of dancing, so any "loose" areas would not have made the cut. And Jimin has been heavily trained in dancing since a young kid. He was one of the best contemporary dancers at his top arts school, and also specially trained in hip-hop style dancing. BTS dance practice videos are where you can see their dancing skills more clearly. I suggest the dance practice vids for their songs like Fire, Blood Sweat and Tears, Fake Love, Idol, Danger, Black Swan, On Kinetic Manifesto. This Set Me Free song has a very Kanye West beat to it, if this isn't your vibe, maybe you can try their other genres. Singularity by their vocalist V is a great neo-soul song, it was primarily written for him by their rapper RM. The music vid is titled "comeback trailer" so don't be confused by that. Their rapper RM has a song called Yun ft. the queen of soul Erykah Badu, it's soul + hip-hop. House of Cards by their 4 vocalists has a jazz/blues vibes. Stay Alive by their vocalist Jungkook was produced by their rapper Suga, great cinematic sounding song. No music vid, I suggest the lyric vid by the channel Zaty Farhani, the translations are better.

BTS isn't "over" tho unlike other groups they are taking a break to explore themselves as individuals to find themselves so they as a group can last longer in the future, this is Chapter 2 of their story as they put it
just wanna comment on your intro of "jimin has a large following from his bts days" hes still very much in bts it is normal for all bts members to make solo music as theyve been doing so since their start whether its releasing covers, solo songs, mixtapes, collabs, albums etc bts are still a group theyre just going through military right now but in 2025 theyll all be back together as a group which is normal for korean male groups to go to the military then come back together to make group music again. just wanted to let you know cause your wording seemed like you thought this meant jimin wasnt in bts anymore but he is very much still in the group along with the other members. :)
I think the other melodies you made were too light or too melancholic, and the song is a bit darker and more hard hitting, so it wouldn't fit so well, even though they were good. That's also the reason for the autotune, it's more hard hitting, it expresses the lyrics better. But each one to their own opinion!
Another member of BTS named Suga has a song called Set Me Free on his solo mixtape called D-2 from 2020, so the 2 songs are unrelated but the Pt. 2 was added to differentiate between the songs. And I just read your video description saying you aren't Jimin's demographic. I don't get what that means considering BTS and Jimin don't have a certain demographic, their music is enjoyed by millions of people of all ages and backgrounds. But thanks for giving it a listen.
You're the first reaction video I've watched that broke down the chord progression of the intro-- thank you so much! You even played along, this is great. Definitely turn on the English subtitles when you can if you do any other reaction videos to K-pop since the lyrics add more to listening experience. If you're taking requests, I'd love to hear your take on Hoshi - Spider! Or Taemin - Advice. Tempo by EXO is a lot of fun too, and you might have fun with the harmonies in that. Jonghyun wrote a lot of his older songs, and I think his last album too. Anything from him is great, and more jazz inspired.
