I read somewhere that the singer was actually crying at those last parts, that's why it has so much emotion, so they liked it and kept like that.

each version had different lyrics (who knows what the chaos language lyrics means thou), this one is basically about someone longing for a loved one to be by her side, that she lost in the past due to her "mistake". But that wish will never came, as the other part is long gone... from that , I assume that the Japanese version is more on the A2 side? Some people believe it is for 9S thou... (its debatable I guess, depends on how each people interpret it).

Well actually that is not true tho. She was instructed to sing like that at the end.

Marina's emotional break at the end when she's trying desperately to hold herself together absolutely wrecks me physically. I actually feel my body struggling with the emotion I'm feeling. Such a unique moment to capture in the studio and push to final production.

to bring in the context to the lyrics : (it contain some spoiler so...) Imagine a girl and a boy, They were strangers at the beginning, But as they start going through many things together, They got closer and love blooms, But in the end, the girl had to kill the boy, Because that is the mission given to her, Then he will be reborn, And she had to repeat the cycle over and over again, Until she can't bear the "sin" of killing him, She tried to commit suicide, But the boy stopped her and killed himself instead, Telling the girl not to hesitate to kill him ever again, Because only by dying that they can be reunited, So the girl make a promise to fulfill that wish, Not because she wanted him dead, but so they could be reunited, And she stopped smiling, while keeping her bloody oath. More or less, this is the context behind this japanese version of "weight of the world".

I feel each of the three versions evokes a different feeling to it. The english version gives off powerful and hopeful vibes, refusing to give up. The japanese version is emotional, like they've been through so much. And the chaos version is just somber, empty and melancholic hopelessness. Also opens up with melancholy, unlike the other versions.

So the English version has the singing character addressing god (who she earlier wondered if any god exists), which is definitely less emotional and more distant. The Chaos one is hard to judge, I don't know the lyrics. Finally, the best version is the one where the three are mixed and the developers of the game form the background vocals; that is the one that plays in ending E when you force the developers to write a happier ending because the game is just too sad. By the way, the optimism in this song is ironic: the only reason to be optimistic is because they have already hit rock bottom, it can't possibly get worse from here.

The game ending that has this song is so filled with nihilistic sadness and despair when this song plays, that just listening to this song again, I immediately burst into tears! Neir Automata is one of the best and deepest games I’ve ever experienced.

Is too emotional, even for the singer.

If you think this song is emotional, just play Nier Automata, wait for the "E" ending and you gonna cry a river. For me, is the most emotional moment in gaming history.

I own it but haven't gotten around to it yet. It's on the list. Right now I'm trying to get through the Witcher trilogy. I'm a few months into the project and am only on Act 2 of Witcher 1 😅

Lol. Can't listen to that chorus without tearing up, no matter the version.

The JP version is the best IMO, by a long shot. And part of the reason is the lyrics, which - let me tell you. If the music alone is making you cry, hearing Marina's voice break down as she sings _That's right, even though we know there's no worth to it,_ _We still shout our love for this filthy world_ _And even though we know it's meaningless,_ _We still wish for just a bit more time with you_ Is just a whole different experience entirely.

Sorry to say but I have no idea what emotions I had when either version of Weight of the World was playing, was too busy sobbing.

Weight of the world: The end of YoRHa, if you want to listen, is one of the few musics I can promise you that it has an unique style, without spoiling: There's so much variety in its style. It's the most unique song I ever heard.

While I enjoyed this I do think I have a preference for the last Okabe track we checked out it. This feels like more of a traditional ballad that I could imagine accompanying a wide variety of anime or Japanese video game credits. I can also see how/why this would probably be more impactful in the context of the game. It probably doesn't help not being able to understand the meaning of the lyrics (at least, not without a translation on hand). I'm guessing when I get around to playing Nier: Automata I'll be more inclined to research the lyrics/meanings and alternative versions. This also reminds me that I probably need to make Chvrches Death Stranding a special recommendation eventually a well. I actually heard that song before I played the game or even knew it was a part of the game, and not only did it become my favorite Chvrches song, it may have been my favorite song of 2019 and really became my personal soundtrack to the times of CV.

What's your last project as a composer in the video game industry?
@CriticalReactions

Honestly -- just a few tracks in my own hobby games. Guess that isn't really part of the industry though 😅 But no, I never really thought about composing for video games but maybe it is something I should give a shot.

Was looking for reactions to a variant of this song, expecting to see gamers playing through the ending -- straight-up double-taked when I saw your channel! What a cross-over I wasn't expecting, haha. (Edit: It's nice that you noticed how every instrument is working together! Working together is (sort of) a theme of the ending(s) of this game)

Interesting idea having the different versions depending on the ending. Makes me want to go check out the title. This piece is what is so amazing about GREAT video games in general. I feel some people think they’re kiddy escapes, but some of the best have it all- story, character development, visual art, music, programming…they can be the pinnacle of art! Right from the get go- I knew this was gonna be good stuff! Chills almost the entire time! It had a familiar J-pop/K-pop/anime feel but very matured. It had a sense of closure to a grand adventure, even without playing the game. I’m going to have to listen to this a few times! Thanks for choosing this piece. ✌🏽

I just copy-paste the name of the video for that part of the description. So it is intentional but I didn't know I did it 😅
