The guy directing is Tony Derosa. Very accomplished singer in barbershop and has performed all over the world. The gentleman next to him, is Jamey Ray. He is the arranger and founder of Voctave. To see how much of a genius he is at arranging, just google him and I think you will be impressed.
I recently learned that Jamey was born with his left arm only formed to the elbow. Hope I got that right. But he still learned to play piano. He does brilliant arrangements. Good singer as well, but it is his arranging that I find most impressive.
@@susanb4213 that is the most amazing thing about Jamey. With his “handicap” he has achieved so much in the music industry. I’ve heard he has arranged music for PTX and a few other groups, not just Voctave.
@@susanb4213 and very humble. He’s really only showcased himself a couple of times that I’ve seen. “Whole new world” with Rachel Potter and a coupe of solo’s on Voctave video’s. Other than that, he just appears to be another member of the group.
I am very impressed with your musical knowledge. You impart information in a way I can understand it. That first soprano is the marvelous Kate Lott. Many members of Voctave are past or present members of the group Voices of Liberty which perform at the American Pavillion in EPCOT at WDW. I had the privilege of meeting Kate Lott there this summer. She is as kind and charming as you would imagine. That voice is just as "spot on" in person as on video. Thank you for a fun video reaction.
I was just reading some comments here and I just wanted to say: Pause as much as you want - its YOUR video :D Some like it, some don't. And I liked it. Interesting comments, you have a good knowledge! Great to hear sth from a composer. Looking forward to more Videos!
I don't get why people that don't like pausing watch these types of reaction videos. The title says he's a composer! What do they expect? If they want to see the video uninterrupted, then go watch the original. I sometimes enjoy watching raw reactions without too much analysis - those channels exist too. If pausing bugs me on reaction channels, it's fairly easy to skip past it. Anyway, you triggered a calm rant, but I agree with you 100%.
One of my favorites with voctave is Mary Did You Know featuring Mark Lowry. Mark is the original composer of the song and he sings it beautifully with them.
There's a wonderful Swedish vocal group called The Real Group that isn't super widely known. Highly recommend checking them out. Especially their live stuff. They've been around for over 30 yrs.
Jamey Ray the second guy from the left is the arranger of the group and the one who started the group. The guy conducting was asked by Jamey to conduct do to his skill.
Loved your reaction. I hope to hear more reactions to Voctave by you in the future! They have so much to choose from so please analyze as much as you can and react to it for us. Many of the arrangements by Jamey Ray are online, so you could download those ahead of time and follow along and see what he is actually doing in the arranging of each piece. Keep up the good work and pause as often as you see fit. Your analysis is why we are here. Most of us have already heard the song before.
Note: I noticed that the final chord isn't actually a major triad, but a sus2 chord. My bad! Also, my Carol of the Bells of Notre Dame reaction got taken down :(
I can recommend the Prince of Egypt from Voctave and Come all ye faithful. I like your reacts. Just two suggestions: I would pause a little less and try to use less ehms. Till next time.
Nice job with your reaction. I suggest you not pause quite so much. Maybe jot notes down and stop and discuss a couple of items at a time. Then from the notes fill out the info in your final overview of the song. Stopping where it is showcasing something is totally ok though.
Omg... By pausing every 10 seconds or less you interrupt the flow of the song and we can't understand what we're hearing and I understand that you're trying to give a professional reaction but we're trying to hear the song too... I would pause less than 50 times per song if I were you...
I’ve seen other reactors pause even more frequent. Some do it as a “mind blown, I need to catch my breath” pause and others react to what they’ve just heard. Hence, the topic of the post. “Reaction video” if you want to hear the performance, uninterrupted, I suggest you check out the video posted by the performer.
@@bigragu6828 I totally agree with you. If I’m watching a reaction to something I’ve not seen before, i will usually go watch it first so I’m familiar with the vid and can appreciate it better, then I watch the reaction. All of Voctave’s songs I listen to at least 20 times before I watch a reaction to it because i really appreciate their music and that lets me really become familiar with each piece. I really like reactions where they stop and analyze a piece, the voices, the harmonies, etc and give us their educated opinions. Those reactions are always more satisfying than a person who watches something the whole way thru and then says, “wow that was amazing” and not much else. Most anyone who has ever seen 1 Voctave vid already knows they are amazing, now we want to know why! What do they do that makes them so amazing, in your opinion! Stop as often as you need to to get that done!
@@andrewjackson8421 I’m a huge fan of Voctave. I check, at least twice a day, for new reaction videos for any of their songs. The reactors do range from the very knowledgeable to the casual, in their musical experience. I’ve also seen the reactors who darn near have orgasms, to the ones that knit pick, to the ones that break down the arrangements, to where I will hear something pointed out, even though I’ve heard the performance 100 times.
While the numerous interruption may bother some listeners (myself included) they also don't allow the reactor to feel the beautiful continuity of Jamey Ray's arrangement. Stopping in the middle of a phrase should never be done.
