I have always thought Hotbin Composters look really good from the videos I have watched online. My only issue with them is the price. I use 330litre Dalek composters. You can buy 2x330litre dalek bins for £35 delivered online. Okay it takes longer to compost, but so much cheaper. If you say for example that the 200litre Hotbin could produce a batch every 3 months, that is 800 litres per year for your £300. If you buy 4 Dalek bins for £70, you could produce 1320 litres of compost in the about the same time frame. If you have the space for 4 daleks, I know what I would be going for.
I can’t recommend Hot bins enough. I have 3 1 bought and two I made. I keep chickens so all their waste goes in including the kitchen green waste and garden and allotment waste. I returned the council green waste bin which saves me money. But best of all I have the best compost ever in abundance 😊
I've also made a home made Hotbin to give the idea a go to see how well it works and I must say I am very surprised and impressed by the speed of composting, so much so that I'll probably end up buying one sooner or later.
not being negative but would you now pay £480 for the mega compost bin , thats alot of money to spend , think i will stick to my 3 compost bay and the three year cycle
HI Steve, do you get Rats on your plot? I'm sick of them, wondered if you had if they got in the hot bins? They have only served one purpose and that is turfing out the compost, 🤣🤣 just not sure what deposits they are leaving behind 😞
You shouldn't need turn a hotbin. You add to the top layer and gently mix in with the stick thing provided. However, if you have put too much green in, such as a big layer of grass, that could end up a dense smelly wet anaerobic layer, then you would need to turn that over in the bin with extra paper/cardboard and woodchips to aerate the layer and provide the right environment for aerobic microbes to compost.
