I grew up in Compton, This video is intended to show you a particular aspect of the city. Yes there are gangsters and has been for decades, but what it doesn't show are the people who are going to work or school or just living their daily lives trying to avoid the land mines in the city. Lots of decent working people in the city, all you see in the streets are the knuckleheads.

I grew up in the hood and this was all I knew even though I wasn't affiliated with any gangs. I worked and went to school and yes we have bad stuff that goes on everyday like any other hood. I made lifelong friends and people I consider family. Alot of the smartest educated and coolest people are from the hood. Please don't judge us. God loves us all.

I grew up in this type of environment in So CaL and made it out. I only went back a few times to see the outcome and it's heartbreaking. Glad I moved out of state for better and it was life changing. I hope the same for anyone still there.

I lived in South Central for over 20 years and recently moved away into a more “put together” suburb in LA. I lived by the Watts towers, just on the west side of the tracks and it definitely got worse the second you crossed them into Watts and Compton. You didn’t go pass them unless you lived there or knew someone that lives there. All the gangstas would stare at you funny when you drove by, if they didn’t recognize you or your car there could be trouble. My entire childhood, amazing memories, but I don’t miss one second of this nonsense!

We've lived in neighborhoods like this. Here, one of my brothers almost got shot one afternoon, so did I one night while walking to the store with one of my sisters, our house was shot at one night while we were inside in late August 1994, one was shot, but survived, others were grazed, another was also shot in the groin 😔 Wow...After all this occurred, we should've moved to either Vegas, or Salinas, CA.

If you're not on paper, cops can only frisk the outside of your clothing if there's reasonable suspicion of a crime. They're allowed to do that for their safety while they're detaining someone-they can't just walk up to a person who isn't being detained and pat them down to try to find evidence of a crime. Terry vs. Ohio forbids using generalized suspicion as a reason to detain or frisk someone, it has to be a particularized suspicion based on articulable evidence.
@@runeonyx1648 Loitering isn't illegal in California, and somebody committing a traffic infraction doesn't give cops the authority to mass-detain other people in the vicinity. It doesn't even give cops the authority to detain other passengers in a vehicle during a traffic stop. Also, I disagree with the characterization of a legal detainment "allowing" the use of a frisk. It allows the use of a frisk in cases when there's also reasonable suspicion that the person is armed with a weapon. A detainment in itself doesn't allow for a frisk-cops don't get to pat someone down just to look for evidence.

A neighborhood is what you make it. With all the building going on where I live and property value going up, a lot of the deadbeat, lower class people have left. A lot of the homeless have left as well.

@Htown Lifer Cali has over crowded jails so they negotiate deals like that for both probation and parole. Criminals get to get out early or avoid jail time but they have to agree on this type of search. Some of them also wear GPS trackers. Cops show up when they go to the area where they are not supposed to for gang activities. It's also how they keep killing each other since they are not in jail.
