Rap icon Kendrick Lamar was recently spotted filming his music video for "They Not Like Us," at Tam's Burgers in Compton, which the owner says has drawn a massive amount of new clients to his business.

For all the colonizer, "they not like us" talk, you'd think Kendrick would be expected to boost some black businesses before this is considered that kind of a win.

I used to work at a hostel on Hollywood Boulevard and I would give private tours to international tourists who were fascinated by Compton and the rap music there (people from Japan, France, etc.). Back in 2014, I once drove around a guy from Germany and showed him Kendrick Lamar's childhood apartment building, walked inside Compton City Hall and the courtyard with the famous arches, stopped and took photos at the "Welcome To Compton" sign, and I drove us to this Tam's for our lunch break. *We ate inside this EXACT Tam's Burgers* this was WAYYY. BACK. IN. 2014. We sat in that EXACT DINING ROOM (which still looks the same) eating burger combos and then got back in our car playing 93.5 KDAY and drove along Compton Blvd, Firestone, Alameda with the windows down, palm trees and blue skies everywhere all the way down to Long Beach. I really enjoyed my little tours, lol. Ten years later it's cool to see that this local business is thriving.
Tams is so yummy! I'm glad they're getting hyped because they've been great for a long time. Congratulations to Kendrick Lamar for bringing us back to his city and really showing love Drake could never.
It is. Dr. Dre also had this Tam's as a part on his Super Bowl stage production. That Tam's location is well known locally. Dangerous part of Compton, but the food's worth the risk 😂😂😂
Now that's how legends are made. Many rappers will never get a mural until they die . But only the gifted will be praised while they're still living . This is new history for Kendrick and tams and the legacy could become iconic

Tams wasn’t in Long Beach when we were kids. I’m in my 40’s. Tam’s was mainly in LA. We had Tommy’s Pam’s Hut, Louis Burger, Golden Eagle & Fabulous. If you know u know!!
Doubt it. The hood spots like Tam's know their customer base would throw a fit if it got on some Hollywood sh## lol. Now if they built a Tam's out in West LA or on Hollywood Blvd catering to tourists, those prices would be higher.

Boosting non-black owned businesses making money in predominantly black neighborhoods, is doing anything hut saving the culture. Many outside communities are incentives to set up shop in black communities to help keep the local black communities from being able to open up our own businesses in our neighborhoods and build wealth as a community. I'm not saying Kendrick isn't doing anything else for his people, but this far more like saving the colonizers than "the culture."
If I had a nickel for every time Kendrick Lamar boosted the sales of a restaurant... I'd have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
If he's not boosting any black owned businesses, with all the "colonizer" and "they not like us" talk, he'd have to shout out and boost sales for a black owned businesses before that would make sense.
I grew up in L.A and I also lived in Compton for a minute on Myrrh St not far from Rosecrans and I also lived in Palmdale and Long Beach. I know exactly where this Tam’s is because it is not far from where I use to live. Tam’s been around a very long time just like Louis Burger. These places stay busy.

Technically, if you're boosting sales of outside communities incentivized by the government to build businesses in black communities to help keep those black communities from ownership and building wealth, that's more like a colonizer stimulus package.
