With less than 100 days to the race, my Comrades Marathon training is underway. Week 1 is complete and here's what the first few days' training has looked like, plus a little window into how I refuel for recovery and a small confession.
Fancy taking on this challenge?
The race is sold out so Marathon Tours and Travel are the only way to book an entry. These guys take care of all the travel details and logistics so you can at least get to the start pain-free.

How has your running week gone? Let me know what you're training for any how your week went..

I did 97.21 minutes on the row machine, altogether. I ran 30.02 miles 22 minutes with my ab wheel 3 hours resistance training (I use a sled and a home built gym. Lat pull down machines are $1900 and a good bench is $543! I'm a carpenter, so I just built it all.) Since you asked.

Great video. My week went fine. I'm also training for comrades. This week my legs were really tired but from my experience last year that's just part of the deal. Your going to love this race. I know it's hard to get in the gym but try get in this week. Keep it simple and don't try get a hero with big weights etc... like I did last year. As long as your doing squats etc...with any weight it will make a huge deal . Quads get completely trashed on race day. Good luck and thanks for the videos

Thanks Jonathan. Glad to hear you're training's going well, too. Gym definitely this week. Little re-jig of the daily routines needed. Quads suffer now not later!

I'm running 10 miles regularly, just a convenient distance from door to end of trail and back. But you're still so much faster than me. I was proud to do 10.66 in 1:43.26. You'd blast past me! I'll catch up eventually. Just glad to have so much more room to grow. Great job! Good luck to your boy and his rugby career! What did you think of the UAs? I've got a son too, and he just breaks my resolve instantly and all I want to do is goof off in the back yard and have fun with him. I definitely understand that.

Love it when 10 miles becomes a manageable run mentally. That's a happy place to be. It's also great to have room to progress. And in a way, as I get longer in my running life, I actually appreciate runs that take longer anyway! Will reveal all on the UA's next week. Under embargo on reviews until then. And ditto to the son-related distractions. Looking forward to when we can go out and do this stuff together!

Comrades is in my bucket list. Although I’m British born I grew up in South Africa 🇿🇦 and the Comrades was always something we would watch on the TV as a family each year. Good luck with the training 🏃🏻‍♂️👍

Long been one I’ve wanted to do. Can’t wait to get out there. Looks like so much more than a run. I’d say it’s once in a lifetime but so many people seem to do it once and go straight back!

Week has been brilliant had my tough run today , hit my targets but legs a little sore (shoes were great at mp , but uncomfortable at sub 8 ) . Great vlog, look forward to the next one . By the way a kettlebell and military press burpee’s … nice substitute for the gym .

Glad to hear you ran well today mate. I’m actually just about to review a load of kettle bells so good timing!

I’ve been training for Paris Marathon with hopefully a sub 3, and I tried something new on a couple of my long runs with Marathon pace added - Sunday I finished the week with 22 miles consisting of 1M W/U, 6M MP, 1M rec, 6M MP, 1M rec, 6M MP, 1M C/D (3x6M marathon pace) which is the peak effort and it felt ok, so it’s given me some confidence before I start tapering to race day.

That’s a good workout right there. Nicely run. Paris is soon right?

What a race to have as your first. That’s amazing. Sharing the excitement and the nervousness! How’s training going?

@@Manvmiles it's going ok I think . I ran 700km in January and now trying to focus more on cross training , hills , sauna . I'm not in the same league as you. I have little talent but a lot of enthusiasm and motivation 🤣 really excited to see your training as I do mine. Hard balancing work , kids and training but I know it's going to be so worth it. Can't wait for your next video

Good watch and you are a much more accomplished runner than me, but also inspirational. I am training for London Marathon and have got myself upto 40 miles weeks - it’s going well enough so far 🤞🏼
@Manvmiles
@Manvmiles Год назад
Thanks Peter. Not sure about the accomplished bit 😂. Glad to hear the London training is going well. Keep chipping away at those sessions. You got a target time?

This is my third marathon and the times are London 2021 4:47:42, Manchester 2022 4:27:24 and so I would like London 2023 to be quicker to be honest - I am hopeful of getting close to 4h 10m . I just hope I am fit/strong enough - as you know it hurts in the last 10km ish 😬🤣

Amazing. Did you always plan to do it twice or did it once and got hooked?

@Manvmiles once and got hooked. Also if you do it twice consecutively you get a special medal so that motivated me more.

Nice, just casually running a solo mara in 3:47. I'm training for Manc Mara, going for sub-4; 20 miler incl parkrun planned for Saturday. Knackered most of the time in this traing block & social life has gone out of the window, reminds me why i normally stick to shorter distances! How many shoes in total in the shoe rack that we glimpsed?
@Manvmiles
@Manvmiles Год назад
Social life? What's that? 😂 There's probably 30 pairs in the rack and that's just the half of it. But then my job is to test running shoes, so you know...

I like them. Bit narrow. Fun ride. Not my favourite carbon shoe but a strong race option I think.
