VOICE OF THE BEEHIVE brought me here.....was of age at the time of this recording and missed it the first go round. Great tune that captures feeling of the time.
I thought I read on the Sleep No More site that U2 and the Comsat Angels toured together in late 1979/early 1980. By the way, this, along with "India" by Psychadelic Furs, are two of the best running songs EVER.
There's no such thing as a bad version of this song! Even the BBC sessions are excellent. I like the chord progression in the final verse better on the 1983 version but this one seems heavier and grittier. I'm guessing it's the use of the organ on this version vs. the synth on the 1983 version, and the growl of the bass when it finally comes in. Thanks for posting this!
keep coming back to this... vastly underrated band. has that gang of 4 thing goin on- the organ on this version makes me think of young marble giants. actually has that early U2 anthemicness at the end. guess if this came out in 1980 Boy had come out already. i'm surprised no one (who's good) has done a cover...
To be honest a lot of bands, music, and lyrics have been plagiarized, truth is there’s only so much originality that can be created. Both songs are amazing and have good messages, if it weren’t for a comment I saw on this song I would’ve never heard of ‘Urban Legend’. I’m saying this as someone who likes to write lyrics, I’m Mexican btw and I can understand a bit of the other Brazilian song.
