FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO GETS THE REFERENCES. I've watched like every single reaction that's out and not a single person has noticed the references. also for the record, bourgeoisies is like Afluenza 2.0. which was on his first album and is about the same type of thing but he said that alfuenza was how he felt at the time and that bourgeoisies is him making fun of his younger self and calling himself immature (in fact bourgeoisies is even grammatically incorrect, it should just be bourgeoisie, no s). so its not out of the blue and its also supposed to be incredibly ironic.

The title Winner and when Conan says "you really are the winner" and then the guitar...reminds me of we are the champions but the meaning it's totally opposite is so iconic

also you saying that “his voice sounds perfect” is so ironic since he recorded majority of this album with an incredibly bad sinus infection i believe. it’s why we also didn’t get the killing me music video.

this was very fun to watch! I'm glad that conan wasn't afraid to experiment and just have fun with this one, even though he had the worst year ever last year while making it. for context: he actually had his first relationship, for 6 months, very on and off with this person (as he said, it was very secretive) and after they broke up with him trough a text while he was on an airplane, flying to see them, he landed in london and it's actually where he wrote "alley rose" - originally, "abbey road" but that's obviously a Beatles' album so he changed it to "alley rose" - since he and his ex had their first kiss in an alleyway, rose = love. after that, he got EXTREMELY sick, he was sick for 6 months and eventually had to have his tonsils removed (and relearn how to sing). bestie went TROUGH it last year, jeeez. as for his family background: i mean, you remember "family line" maybe. conan's dad was very abusive, his parents got divorced when he was 3, they had to move around a lot cuz his dad was in military, were very poor for most of the time + if we add that he was raised very religiously, we can paint a good picture of how his upbringing affected him (thanks god he goes to therapy, my boy literally has been depressed since childhood, as he said). so i definitely believe that "found heaven" is as much towards other queer kids as it is towards him as a teen. just giving you context so you don't have to watch all of his zach sang interviews (but I do highly recommend checking out him on "therapussy", it was HELARIOUS to watch)

Eye of the night is definitely my favourite. When I heard it, I immediately thought of "You give love a bad name" by Bon Jovi and "If you were a woman" by Bonnie Tyler. Also the "heartbeat beating through the floor" might be a reference to Poe's Tell-Tale Heart?

i feel like sooo many people aren't gonna like this album on their first listen bc like u said it's highly referential which some may find unoriginal or try-hard even and start to develop bias, but i really hope it's a grower for them. it's so well-produced and a great tribute to the 80s and i believe conan poured his heart into this🥲. alley rose is my fav btw the production of it is so huge !!

Bourgeoisieses sounds like London Calling by The Clash to me!!!!! Seriously every song on this album sounds so familiar and hearing you talk about which references you think he was making really helped me process what I was hearing too! I was specifically looking for a Found Heaven review that talks about the references so I'm SO GLAD you made this video :)

Bourgeoisieses I can't remember the song that reminds me (as soon as I remember I will edit the comment) but the lyrics really gave me the vibes of Our House by Madness (mostly the way they describe their surroundings) but I swear as soon as I remember the song that reminds me of it I'll write it but it comes and goesssss like when I'm about to sleep I remember and then it goes away TAINTED LOVE BY SOFT CELL IT'S TAINTED LOVE omg you even mentioned the song with fainted love but Bourgeoisieses reminds me of Tainted Love omgggggg thank god I can sleep now.

As a huge lover of arena rock, I saw the cover art and it intrigued me to check out it out. I got half way through listening to Fainted Love, before I decided I wanted to listen to the whole album. I love how familiar but new this whole album feels. I also love playing the game of trying to pick up all the references.

You can't start and end the album with Found Heaven and Winner. Winner is about his dad it made me feel really sad until I read recently that Conan felt a lot of relief after writing this song.

I’ve been obsessed with it since it came out and you so perfectly described why in that its sounds so familiar and like you know the song but then when you try to connect it to a song you can’t find one quite like it making it unique yet nostalgic I love it

I genuinely love this album sooo much - as referential as it is I feel like it's also pretty original in our current music climate. My faves are (in no particular order); The Eye of The Night, Alley Rose, Boys and Girls, Burgeoisises and Fainted Love

I think lyric wise, Superache will not get bested anytime soon, but the production on Found Heaven is UNMATCHED

Alley Rose is my favourite, but it's hard to rank them after that. I love so many of them. I'm new to Conan's music and I love this album. Although it's nostalgic for me as I grew up in the 80s.

Loved this. My take away was less that he was referencing specific songs but more so the artists. Examples below that I thought of. I like that the album references songs without copying them. You can hear the inspiration but it still sounds like Conan’s point of view. Absolutely love this album. It grows with each listen.

Lonely Dancers really gave me Safety Dance vibes on how it sounds. And I appreciate in Alley Rose when he says " Oh, where'd you go, go, allеy rose?" (the double "go" it reminds me of wake me up before you go go) Also sometimes I listen to this album and I think I hope they use this on Stranger Things's new season then I remember that it's not actually the 80's so it would be historically inaccurate ☹

This album just makes me want to rewatch The Breakfast Club over & over again

fainted love actually was originally called faded live and he clarified for rolling stone that it wasnt a play on tainted love, it just didnt sound right as faded love

I don't know if I'm just going off the title, but does anyone see a parallel between lonely dancers and tiny dancer by Elton John. The topic and lyrics are completely different/opposite, and it's not like the sound is the same, but there's something? *edit - I wrote this before you mentioned all the other Elton John references*

I listened to this album for the first time in anticipation of seeing your reaction, Dan! Of course, this is all my opinion and not objective fact, but my thoughts below: Overall, I got and appreciate the references. I hear Depeche Mode, Ultravox, Petshop Boys and 80’s bands of that ilk all over the sonic landscape, but the references are SO heavy, SO almost…1:1, that I was left thinking, “but who is Conan?”. I was really looking forward to the Max Martin tracks as a big pop fan, but instead of Conan’s and Max’s visions working in harmony together, I could almost hear the conflict between Max’s pop polish and Conan’s references clashing? The songs would be leading into very melodic, pop “perfection” territory and would then sharply U-Turn into something else? That was probably a creative decision in itself but I found my ears being a bit blue-balled by the end of the album and it just never quite gets there for me. Conan has some absolute bangers (Disaster being a 10/10 song for me), so I know he’s capable. I just didn’t sink into the vision along with the artist this time. Maybe next time :)

The album is great, but as you keep listening to the album, it just gets better.
