In the dilution example he kept saying V1 would be how much water you would need to add. That volume is actually the volume of the 18M solution that you would need to remove to add water to until you reached the 3.0 L At the end when he finished the calculations he did restate it that way, but it was a bit confusing because before he said it was how much water you needed to add. He got it right in the end, but the inconsistency made it harder to understand.

Hello sir, I want to ask you a question. Basically this question is not from this topic but I'm having problem in this question. The question says, The mole fraction of a soluble in a solution is 0.1. At 298K, molarity of this solution is the same as its molality. Density of this solution at 298K is 2.0g cm^-3 . The ratio of the molecular weights of the solute and solvent , {MW of solute}/{MW of solvent} is.

Thanks for this video, it's very helpful! I am a bit confused though, when you dilute something are you not increasing the volume by adding more solvent? So shouldn't M1 not equal M2, since their volumes would be different after you dilute M1 into M2?
@mrcausey
@mrcausey 6 лет назад
You're right M1 doesn't equal M2. M1V1 = M2V2 Thanks for watching.

Mr. Causey may i please get some help. i used your method and i understood it but in this question... 9 g of glucose (C6H12O6, RMM = 180 gmol-1) is dissolved in 50 ml of water. This solution is then added to 100 ml of water to give Solution A. 10 ml of Solution A is added to 90 ml of water to give Solution B. What is the final concentration of glucose in Solution B? ...i struggled and couldn't get the answer right. (by the way it the answer is 33mM) please help me.

Hi, I need help with a question and am having a hard time finding a similar example online. I would really appreciate some help, or at least a bit of a direction. I have solved for the molarity of the NaCl solution, but not sure where to go from here. Thanks! A student dissolves 1.246 g of sodium chloride into 500.0 ml of water. That solution is then mixed with 300.0 ml of a 0.100 M sodium carbonate solution. What is the concentration of sodium ions in the final (mixed) solution.

I want to ask something. supposed I want to make a phosphate solution form KH2PO4 anhydrous. to a phosphate solution of 300mg/L should I just ad 0.3 gram of KH2PO4 into a liter of DI water or I have to do some calculation?
@mrcausey
@mrcausey 8 лет назад
If you are considering the phosphate only, remember the phosphate is only about 70% of the mass. Thus, you must calculate how much KH2PO4 would contain .300 g of PO4.

@mrcausey
@mrcausey 8 лет назад
+Sarah Nemetalla Well, remember that molarity is moles of solute per liters of solution. Thus, you must change the grams to moles using molar mass and then divide the moles by .500 L. The molar mass of NaOH is 40 g per mole.

you said concentration is solute/ solution or solvent? wouldn't it just be solute/solution? if not when would you use solution or solvent
