Since Dave Cannon with the YK River Alliance won't be able to attend the meeting in person, this video was made so that the attendees could make an informed decision on the social and environmental tradeoffs that the world's largest gold mine would incur on the people of the region.
Here are the meeting's anticipated goals: "The confederated Yupik and Athabaskan tribes of the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta, Nunavut, is hosting a gathering of all tribes to discuss the status of the Donlin Creek Gold Mine on August 15 and 16, 2018 at the Old Moravian Church in Bethel, Alaska.
The leaders will spend the first day in training, being instructed by professionals and scientists on the type of mining that is being planned for Donlin. All stakeholders, including Donlin, Calista, the Kuskokwim Corporation, will be invited to attend, as will YKHC and AVCP, to assure that the information the leaders receive will be as comprehensive as possible.
The next day, the tribal leaders will confer with each until they can come to an agreement on the development of the Donlin Creek Gold Mine. The leaders will release a statement at the end of the conference."
