AE, Resolve all the time! For real-time audio reactive visuals (DJ techno sets) I prefer and recently start using TouchDesigner, Vuo (Mac only that's sad), synesthesia (liked about its 4-5 fx/presets), also liked imaginando vs

Great content as always! pretty much been using the same programs. One thing that I would recommend too is motion array and envato elements for those gigs that you dont have much time to prepare the visuals, is a life saver and sometimes some good clip selections and the effects on resolume can get you a good set

Sure you are LJ! Start playing around and try to re-create the content you like to use, and your ideas will blossom from there as you get over the hump of starting to learn a new tool. Its so much fun to perform with content you made yourself. That said, its totally fine to not be an animator. They are two different skills. Do what you love and what you are good at :) But dont count yourself out before you try!

I was literally thinking what animation pipelines are for the VJ/rave visual scene. I'm going back to the basics for me - started learning illustrator just this week - will be learning photoshop next. Desired pipeline will be: Illustrator > photoshop > Aftereffects > Alley > Resolume Arena

Stellar overview, Sean! I'm using mostly UE5 lately, by rendering clips with the Path Tracer. I purchased Resolve for its Noise Reduction feature that's doing wonders, especially in nature scenes with extensive overuse of volumetric fog )) I was considering Topaz, as well, but chose Resolve and still curious about Topaz's abilities. I wish we could render DXV's straight from Resolve though. Hope to see hands-on VJ content creation tuts from you in the future!
@SeanBowes
@SeanBowes 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for sharing Steve! Didn't realize Resolve had that feature, ill have to check it out. Topaz does pretty well, i mostly use it for upscaling and retiming in a pinch. Hoping to do more about the content creation stuff as well, its just such a broad subject compared to resolume so I am figuring out where to start...
@STVinMotion
@STVinMotion 8 месяцев назад
@@SeanBowes yes, recording Arena tuts is relatively straight forward for me too. I'd record UE5 tuts if only I wasn't embarrassed with the amount of mess & workarounds/hacks I'm pulling to finish a project. I already thought about just lowering the bar by opening a channel dedicated to it and calling it "Sloppy UE Tuts" ))
@SeanBowes

Stoked to see how much better C4D w Redshift integration might get w UE5 as it’s there… but not quite there; but also Project Avalanche is about to be a super interesting addition to experiment with in UE5+. Just crossing my fingers we don’t see an ominous subscription…
@SeanBowes
@SeanBowes 8 месяцев назад
Yeah the integration with unreal is decent now, but definitely not perfect. Greyscale Gorilla textures coming to UE5 is pretty exciting for me along those lines. Project Avalanche looks pretty awesome. Excited to see where that all goes...

Great video thanks man. I just have a question. I have been doing 3D for a long time but for marketing. I want to know what the process is of handing over the final assets. Do we hand over a video file and don we work personally with the VJ or does the VJ sync up the video to the song?
@SeanBowes
@SeanBowes 8 месяцев назад
Great question. It kind of depends. Lots of times you just deliver the video files to the artist or their team, and they distribute them to whichever VJ they are using. Many artists dont tour with a specific VJ, and others do. Sometimes some instructions are provided, sometimes not. Sometimes you do have a closer relationship with the team and the VJ that might be touring with the artist, and you can work with them about how the visuals should work, or how they'd like them to work in their show.

Great video, I'd also like to add Fusion to the list for compositors, also the free version comes with the free vesion of Resolve. Also, btw, Touch desginer was made by one the originals creators of Houdini which why they both have similar wording and technical term.

thanks so much❤ what are the fees for high end result? and how are they calculated? by task or hour ?
@SeanBowes
@SeanBowes 3 месяца назад
That depends on quite a few factors, scope of the project, deliverables, usage, timeline, technical complexity, resources needed, etc. I recommend contacting a few artists you'd like to work with and discussing it with them. Expect the response to have several zeroes on the end of it :)

Very helpful video again Sean! I know it will be secret. But do you know how Anyma’s visuals are created? I think its an Ai tool, mayne idea for the next video (Ai Tools)
@SeanBowes
@SeanBowes 8 месяцев назад
Im not 100% sure, but It looks like Cinema4D or Houdini and Octane/Redshift to me for a lot of it. There might be some AI stuff going on, but most of the highly-shared character stuff and cool particle simulations are probably made with those tools
@malkomalkavian
@malkomalkavian 6 месяцев назад
Oh, my workflow... I mess about with an AI image generator on my phone called Dream. I also rip a load of stuff from RU-vid and buy stuff from other creators. Then I load it all into resolume and wait for the DJ to start making noises. Then I try my hardest until the music stops. Results may vary :)

@seanbowes Hi Sean, can you suggest where I can start learning at a complete amateur...All I'm trying to do is ultra short project video as a backdrop for live music (tribute bands). Where is the projector placed? Can I legally use short (GIF size) clips of videos I don't own? Etc. Where to start...? Thank you, Sean, or to anyone that knows. (Sean, I loved the "unless you hate yourself" comment. 😅 😂
@SeanBowes
@SeanBowes 7 месяцев назад
The projector placement depends on the projector, throw ratio, and desired size of the image. You can make or buy mounts that allow you to suspend the projector from a beam on the ceiling, or you can place them on the floor or on a stand. Whatever works best for your space. The legality of content is a little bit of a grey area. If you are not reselling content, usually live use falls under fair use. Just make sure your use is transformative. Its always better to use content that you created yourself, or paid for a performance license. But remix culture / found footage sampling has been part of VJ culture for decades. If it feels wrong, its probably wrong. If it feels like art, its art.

For a single projector, Resolume Avenue is great. Check out my Resolume Quick Start tutorial to learn the basics. Hopefully I will have more projection content on here soon too @@rae7548
