Even if the game's netcode is hot garbage.

I'd really prefer waiting longer myself. I don't get why this isn't an option everyone gets to choose before queueing.

@@JadeJuno The maximum time I usually get is 2 minutes. Which I'd say is pretty fast compared to other games where sometimes it can take you 5 - 10 minutes to queue for a game.

I was gonna spill ink regardless, i need the damn money to max out all of the gears in the game and to be able to get an almost true 100% 🗿 (not gonna bother with some of the badges like 2K X Power in Asia region lol, especially if that forces me to stay in that region for like a whole month or Season. 💀).

I feel like that specifically is a current Ever Crisis problem. I played it at launch and it literally took seconds to find co op partners. However after not liking it or the toxicity within the community I dropped it and I suspect many others did which is partially why matchmaking takes so long.

Oh and also, source for S3s engine being a complete rewrite? Ive never heard about this, but im pretty sure youve just pulled it from outta of ur ass, sure its more optimized, but you can do that without doing a full and onnot-complete rewrite lol.

@@SimoneBellomonte If you look at s1's software manual, in the Copyright Information section, it credits "Autodesk(R) Beast™ software" as being included, with an "Autodesk(R) Gameware" logo. If you go to Splatoon 2 in the Switch home menu, hit +, to to Software Information, and then hit Intellectual Property Notices, a feature everyone always uses, after you scroll down by like 2 centimeters, you'll see the exact same notice with the exact same logo. Of the Switch titles I own, mario kart 8 deluxe, another (?) Wii U port, also has the exact same notice with the exact same logo in the exact same place. Moving on to Splatoon 3, Autodesk Gameware is nowhere to be found. In its place is a "havok(R)" logo, with the notice, "Havok software is (C) 2021 Microsoft. All rights reserved." Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 04: VR Kit interestingly seems to also use that engine, as it also has that exact same logo with the exact same notice in the exact same place.

I like most of all that on top of encouraging you to use more weapons with the freshness system, the equip screen is basically seamless from any location. Splatoon 2 had loading screens in and out of it and it was a slog if you accidentally put on the wrong piece of gear and now have to wait to open the menu all over again.

It almost certainly will. I would be furious if I got a 33x Conch Clash instead of a 333x battle. I like the idea of single Conch Clashes since they don't really have a cost to them, but using up shells for what is effectively a worse 333x battle (which would give 33 shells AND clout) is a bad fix. I think mirror matches should have had 1.5x-2x the chance of a Conch Clash (compared to a regular x10), with no 10x or 33x. Thankfully, I don't go on the most popular team very often anyway. I recognize that the individual contribution from a 333x battle is meaningless with an event as large as a Splatfest, but the clout is what makes it special. But hey, at least losing a 33x Conch Clash won't screw your team over! EDIT: Just realized how silly it is to say that the impact is negligible and then immediately say it will screw your team, but I'm leaving it because I find it funny. Maybe I should get some sleep instead of chugging caffeine.

I’m a be hopeful and say no. Conch Clashes would by all accounts be more likely, than getting 10/100/333x games so the festival shells would be preserved for actual fights.

@@axaturdoor7553 According to the 8.0.0 patch notes, the odds of a Conch Clash are the same as a standard 10x Battle. While they didn't confirm whether it eats festival shells, I can't see them allowing you to get 33 conch shells while keeping your festival shells to do it again. But I'd wager that a Conch Clash (x1) will still earn you a festival shell, so at least there's that.

@@trevor1790 See I'd wager that they keep them separate for the exact reason you said. It'd be numerically unfair for the more popular team to get conch clashes more often, thus denying them more opportunities to get 100x and 333x battles.

@@lazarus3100 The annoying thing with 10x/100x/333x battles is that because the decision to roll one is made on Nintendo's servers, rather than the consoles, nobody can datamine how it works (to my knowledge at least). But I doubt they will keep separate festival shell counts, as that would be clunky and confusing. Honestly, I think the whole mirror match debate is a result of a dumb flaw with the Clout system. To balance for team popularity, results are calculated by dividing total Clout by the number of players (so average Clout per player), but I think they should do it by the number of non-mirror matches each team played (average Clout per non-mirror match). That makes the number of mirror matches irrelevant, and rewards performance in matches as opposed to the number of matches that you happen to participate in.

Wait, that's genius! Even if matchmaking takes longer, once you form a full team, you can bypass it anyway :)

This solution would just delay the queue times for everyone by splitting the population and 15 minutes might be a generous guess. You're probably looking at 30 minutes or more to play a 3 minute game which is just insane. Like the queue has to fill your team slots as well as your opponents and if these two options are selected it means they're going to give you teammates who selected they were fine with mirror matches, then when you can't find an opponent it's going to have to drop you from them as it gives them a mirror and you basically have to start all over finding teammates and opponents. If the "no mirror matches" option is unpopular it's likely to result in less non-mirror matches for you than the players that queued normally. And this only gets worse if you fully separate the queues. Most players are probably going for most matches played in a given time period because that's the best way to get to ruler and get the most conch shells for your time, even before the whole conch battle thing.

@@RedOphiuchus if I can't get a normal match within 30 minutes, something is wrong though. If that happened with mirror matches in between, that's almost 10 mirror matches in a row at which point I wouldn't even bother playing anymore. Many people dislike mirrors and it's pretty dumb to force them into a match where some people will actually try seriously and the others will just squid bag or at the very least not play at their best.

Although I’ve moved on from the “Mirror matches BAD!” mentality, I would like to add something. There are *_TWO_* different seeds your account has for the Shell-Out Machine: one for Splatfests, and one for literally everywhere else. Conch Shells are meaningless to me because the seed that is actually close to getting me a gold banner (324 rolls last time I checked) is NOT the one the game switches to during Splatfests. If anything, Conch Shells tease me by constantly reminding me that my rolls are meaningless during Splatfests. These new Conch Clashes change nothing for me.

Dude, you need to ditch the attitude of playing this game specifically to win the splatfest. It is unbelievably unhealthy and toxic. You contribute literally one ten-millionth of the results, and you can strive for maybe fifty times that if you play a ton. You should not be playing the game if you are not able to have fun playing the matches for the sake of them being a game and you consider it a waste of your time to play a normal match.

@@celestialspark5697 I fear I've likely been misunderstood to an extent but at the end of the day how much I contribute doesn't matter what I do care about though is actually being able to contribute, if I have to sit there for 5 minutes at peak play times just to get a mirror match that's a problem and that happens fairly frequently during splatfest where I will be sitting there for 3 to 5 minutes waiting for another match That's the part that upsets me, what they're doing now should have been standard ages ago and if it's as rare as we are estimating that it is going to be it is not going to make it fun I like playing ranked modes it's flatfest are a fun different opportunity for me to goof around with my friends but when I play ranked modes I can usually get matched into a game with my friends who are all way different skill levels but we still play together and we can get matched in about 30 to 60 seconds if you're telling me a splatfest where there is only one game mode available and everyone has to play it takes multiple minutes for me to get matched into it and then I don't even actually get to participate in the event because I get a match against my own team after waiting 5 minutes that kind of fucking sucks believe it or not because then I've wasted 8 minutes waiting just to get the chance to play against the other team and maybe get a times 100 match so that I can take a picture with my friends, winning or losing doesn't matter to me for the splatfest it's all stupid at the end of the day but wasting your time and not being able to take a picture with your friends to commemorate getting super lucky and getting a rare event that kind of sucks That's like the whole reason to even play the game is to play with your friends and do cool shit and feel like you're contributing to whatever nonsense team you're a part of you know whether I win or not I don't care about but if I get to take silly pictures of me and my friends doing the chicken dance in front of shiver or big man that's kind of cool I like to have that for memories and when I'm on the super popular team and I don't get to face against the enemy teams very often or when I'm on the unpopular team and I'm waiting 5 minutes just to get into the match that will take 3 minutes no matter what and then I get basically nothing out of it it kind of sucks at the end of the day am I still playing with my friends and having fun Yes absolutely but are we getting any closer to being able to take silly pictures together in front of the idols for our team no and that's unfortunate this fix of giving us the new conch shells does kind of fix it but if these conch clashes are as rare as getting a times 100 or a 333 then that means we will still basically never see them and my chances for getting to take pictures with my friends and feel like we're participating to the team and having a chance to do cool stuff is significantly less likely, that's how me and my friends enjoy the game that's how we enjoy a splatfest if me and my friends play for 30 hours and out of those 30 hours of playing we get only like 3 to 4 hours of actually playing against an enemy team and actually earning points and actually contributing we feel like we've wasted our time because we don't get our extra super sea snails we don't get to take cool pictures with the idols that are in different colors or different outfits we don't get any of that when all we have are mirror matches so this kind of barely fixes the problem but if the events still stay as rare as they are it doesn't actually fix the problems which sucks at the end of the day we're still having fun and we're still playing but when all you've been getting for 6 hours straight is playing against your own team it makes someone want to give up and be like I guess I can't play the game I can't contribute to my team, I don't give a rat's ass if my contribution is 1 millionth of a percent I still get to contribute I still get to say I'm a part of it I still get to look back on splatnet and see that I reached ruler plus 13 and I got to take one 100x picture with my friends for that splatfest that is cool to me that is memories that is accomplishments not having that option takes away a lot of the fun especially since we try to play the game in a fairly competitive manner for the normal time when we're not doing a splatfest

Because the community always uses them as an excuse as to why Frye doesn't win many Splatfests.

No, I think the complaints have always been silly. I give several reasons why in this video.

@@SquidSchool​​⁠ The complaints can be legitimate, even if they are incorrect in what would actually be good for the game. Mirror matches are ultimately better for most people, because most people benefit from speed. At the same time, you admit that this splatfest update is meant to increase player engagement during mirror matches, when that has been a known issue for a long time now. It’s seemingly a legitimate enough issue for Nintendo to address it.

Also true for regular TW and splatfest mirror matches: is a game you can play to have fun. The moment you look at your worthless imaginary 0.00001% share of the splatfest results and say you're not going to try because the game "doesn't count" and thus you'll deny seven other people a fair game, is the moment I want you banned from the game.

I’ll take your point that directly comparing matchmaking times may not be the best comparison. Faster matchmaking times in all cases may not be better, but at least in Splatoon’s case there is a consideration for why it is good: The majority of players will not be playing in long enough sessions of Splatoon to actually be impacted by the matchmaking-playtime ratio. They may be playing just a few matches, maybe throughout the day during a break in work or school. Not an uncommon use case for a portable system. I saw other commenters who suggested an opt-in system to customize matchmaking to be better at the expense of longer wait times, and I would like that. But, the default is good for most users.
